I cancelled my cable tv service in 2023 and bought an amazon fire cube in order to replace it as I do not have a smart tv. I then cancelled my subscriptions to several apps/channels that I was not watching very often. Finally, I bought a Motorola modem and returned my cable modem. I have not signed up for a non-free live tv streaming service. Because of these steps I am saving approximately $100.00 a month vs what I was paying when I had cable tv service.

I’m regretting cutting the cord unfortunately. It’s becoming more and more like cable. I’m starting to get Blu-Ray discs. Yes streaming is cheaper as long as you only use one or two services, but ads are getting ridiculous and if you go ad free you have to fork out more, and some services require even more for 4K.
@Wario13828 ай бұрын
Is just mostly ads and the same random shows replaying over and over......

And if you get one or 2 services theres so many shows you want to watch but dont get, and/or theres lots of shows you dont watch

Cut the cord a year ago and I’m saving $60 month. And It’ll be more in the summer as I won’t need espn+ and even maybe sling.

I think people try to duplicate their cable package. Doing this will most certainly cost you more. I always recommend you track your viewing habits for a few months. Then try to duplicate that. I always suggest a slower internet package. Upgrading your internet is much easier than downgrading it.

A few years ago it was a no brainer to go streaming services you don’t even have to think twice it was just cheaper but now a days it’s not since streaming services just keeping upping there dam prices and there’s just so many steaming services as well and top of that you need internet with high speed which can be very high depending on where you live! cable have been lowering there prices depending on promotions and where you live as well

I’ll tell you what: I believe, in the long run, streaming will win whatever struggle there is. I don’t know the timetable for that. Right now, we are a split-service, so to speak, household. If I had my way, it would be streaming only. The other two adults in my household have different opinions on the viability of streaming, but the Pro Streamer cedes to the Anti Streamer. I believe cable will have to directly fail before we go Streaming Only.

It’s interesting because some of the cable companies are basically pivoting to streaming but not advertising it. Spectrum, from my understanding, has begun shipping the Xumo Stream Box as its default device. So even if you get Spectrum’s TV service, it’s coming to you via the Internet instead of a coaxial cable. AT&T no longer signs new customers up for U-Verse. Frontier Communications just signs people up for KZbin TV now. Xfinity/Comcast has multiple streaming options. The one thread holding cable up is sports but after the Peacock Playoff game, I think that’s finally going, too.
@nickperkins84779 ай бұрын
@@ShallIStreamIt what kind of ratings did Peacock draw for its playoff game? I know Comcast-NBC/Universal have been slow to let go of cable.
@ShallIStreamIt9 ай бұрын
Huge. Most streamed event ever and built upon the Playoff game in the timeslot from the year before that wasn't a streaming-exclusive. Lots of people weren't happy about essentially being forced to sign up for Peacock but for Comcast and the NFL, I think this means we'll start seeing a ton more streaming exclusive NFL games next season.
@nickperkins84779 ай бұрын
@@ShallIStreamIt Peacock is very good. They need to reacquire some key products and clean up the interface. But it’s otherwise a very good service.

Streaming is still evolving since it's newer. I'm curious to see what streaming will be like 2 years from now. I've been reading that many people left cable because they hate ads. Streaming companies are now adding ads. Most streaming services haven't been profitable. How else can they become profitable without ads?
@ShallIStreamIt6 ай бұрын
That seems to be the million dollar question here.
@schs19777 ай бұрын
Be aware that Spectrum (perhaps other companies are the same) will charge you for a full month service even if you cancel early. In others, words they do not pro-rate. Thanks to the FCC, this is perfectly legal. 😢

I don't consider my internet bill part of a syreaming bill. I would have the same internet bill whether I streamed or had cable/dish service. I also like the ease of switching between streaming services. I ❤ KZbin TV vs. HULU LIVE. The format is more my style, and right now it is cheaper. I also would not include PRIME in my streaming cost as this is something I would have whether I syreamed or had a cable/dish service. Overall, I do not regret cutting the cord. One more thing about streaming, having a Firestick allows me to easily take my subscriptions with me as long as the TV I use has an HDMI port. Last but not least cable/dish providers raise prices just as often as the streaming services.

From my understanding, the FCC WANTS to eliminate early termination fees with a proposed rule, but it isn’t official yet and has red tape to go through. It’s also going to be legally challenged by the cable companies. I hope the FCC is successful on this, though.

The average cost of internet is $50 a month. If you were to add a streaming service, it would be far more expensive than just having a cable/internet/phone package like Spectrum or Verzion Fios. A no-brainer, simple math guys.
@lisathomasson37054 ай бұрын
Well Streaming used to be a cheaper option if you wanted internet ANYWAY, especially if you're a gamer too but still the direct tv I canceled last month was $80/mo & that's now how much hulu live tv is. I'm just sticking with hulu & netflix basic & Amazon prime where I can actually find something to watch instead of all them overpriced live tv channels where I can't find anything I wanna watch anyway....
