I'd love to see an episode about the brain chemistry of addiction. You guys are the best at these topics. I'm 33 and struggle with addiction despite living a very successful and functional life that many people would kill for, I'm never happy or satisfied unless I'm altering my state of mind and this has been the case for 20 years now. This also goes for eating. I am not overweight but I'm constantly miserable and starving myself to not feel intense shame. It feels like my brain is broken and I'll stick around for years to hear you guys talk about brain chemistry surrounding the reward pathways.

I cut sugar/carbs for the last 30 days and I haven't felt so good in years. I sleep better at night and no longer have chronic pain. Best thing I could have done for myself.

My grandma was born in 1913, she grew up eating lard on bread as if it were jam, her mom fried everything in reused bacon grease, she made baked goods with sugar often, when my grandma got older she bought sweets on the regular, cookies and ice cream were her favorites, she smoked for decades, she also took a shot of whiskey on a near daily basis, she never weighed more than 160 pounds, could walk around without a cane well into her 90s, lived independently until she was 100 years old, and passed away in 2017 at the age of 103. I'm not sharing this information to advocate for unhealthy diets or sugar or tobacco or alcohol, in fact I have never smoked and gave up drinking over a decade ago. My point is that I think genetics plays a significant role in how our bodies respond to these substances. It certainly does seem that some people are much more vulnerable to the effects and for those individuals an alternative diet or alternative lifestyle choices may be necessary for them to live a healthy, happy, and hopefully long life.

I think diet trends follow social trends and they are always sensational.

The short and correct answer, Y E S. Fruit is candy. You only eat candy or sugar for the BIG holidays. Sadly, all types of modern genetically modified grains is almost as bad for human body as the fructose and sugars and that is mostly because of the EXTREME amounts that we force down our throats every freaking day.
