@@M00NdaYn I completely agree. I'm vegan over two years, and if I have to stress about every little thing, I'd go crazy. 😥 I buy cheap candles to honor my kitties in spirit every weekend, and I can't be sure that they're vegan (Yankee Candle is, but they're $25 vs. the cheap $4 candles). And the other day, I bought Oreos after not buying them for a long time. I know there's a 50 percent chance they were processed with bone char, but I rarely eat them..plus, if ingredients don't inherently contain animal products, I'm ok with that.. just like I'll buy things like dark chocolate manufactured on the same line as milk products as long as the product itself doesn't contain milk or butter. And yes, I am the proud owner of cats, and no, they're not vegan. Ever since I've been vegan I've seen so much hypocrisy and militancy (from the vegan "police") and it's disgusting. I won't have anybody tell me that I'm not vegan "enough" for them. I *know* that I'm vegan..and I don't judge anybody. We're all doing the best we can considering we don't live in a vegan world.

Hi chris...thank you always for the vegan educational! Thanks...one thing i learned also, is "pure maple syrup" is also, processed through bone char..."all organic maple syrup is not!" Its harder to think how can you make maple trees on a farm vegan impossible..not like cane sugar crops which can be treated with harmful insecticides and such ..and the only reason why they call "organic maple syrup" is because, no bone char process...like you in your area probably..i lived in vermont for 3yrs and observed every late winter..early spring the sugar shacks going at it and all the tapped trees! I miss it....so, thank you again...going to get a tee!! Yahoo!

In your other video you mentioned D3 not always being vegan and now this bone char (which I knew about but didn’t take it as seriously) however after seeing this I think the bone char process is more relatable to animal testing. A product may be considered vegan but that doesn’t make it cruelty free. Anyway I guess my question is how do you know what source of D3 is vegan or non-vegan?

I have a rule I sort of live by at the minute when it comes to farming practices. Basically if it's plant based and could be done in a way which didn't need to use animal products. Say like Bone Char, and it could be refined without using bone char. Then I don't worry about it. There is so much on farms that we can't know for sure, which could be happening: from killing small animals considered pests, to using pesticides, to killing predators. That the way I see it is, we don't live in a vegan world. So my current aim is to get most people supporting plant based products, not tested on animals. Once most people do this, then I will worry more about farming practices, as right now if I go buy from small farmers and try find ways to buy in which to know for certain that something isn't happen, I feel like it would be so time consuming, and probably very costly that it wouldn't be possible or practical for me. I also don't think long term this makes sense. Really we want all farmers to be more considerate of all animals, and so we should be trying to get farmers to grow in a way which is more veganic, and cause next to no harm. So the aim should be to convince all people to do less harm, and those that know how to farm with causing very little harm should be convincing large farms to do this also. So I don't think it's fair that people put everything on their choices, when farmers should really be being more ethical. But my guess is by the time most people are eating mostly plant based, that a lot of regulations will have come in to prevent practices that aren't animal friendly as more and more people will be demanding this. So the way I see it is I will worry more about farming practices later, when I feel like veganism is making a big enough impact for it to really count. Right now I feel like it's being overly pedantic, and we're not even close to getting people simply not eating meat, or animal products. That to worry about the side effects of farming, is just trying to have this purist mentality and be perfectly perfect. To me it's more important to get people on the right tract, then worry about farming practices later. As I know they can be done in a way which causes no harm to animals. I have a similar view point with Palm Oil. The way I see it is that deforestation is mostly an issue with government and businesses not being considerate of forests. So what needs to happen here is regulations. I personally buy food with sustainable palm oil most of the time. But if I'm honest I see this as more of a problem with the regulations of that country, then an issue of demand. In that if it wasn't palm oil, then another business would grow trees and this would most probably end up killing animals, and so the only real solution is to put regulations in place to stop deforestation. Otherwise other demand or business interests in which that business has a lot of money and goes chops a forest down will happen, they didn't even need people to buy their products. So I see this as a issue with the laws in that country, and people not protecting the forests. I also think laws should be made to ban all animal testing, even medical animal testing. I think solutions which don't use animals should be developed and replace animal testing. As it can be very hard to track which companies own what and are testing at the minute. I usually just buy products I know the company selling the product didn't test on animals. But I would prefer a ban on animal testing.

So I wanted to look up because I thought you mentioned in the video that Domino sugar is bone free. However I looked this up because the vegetarian association contacted the company and the spokesperson for the company the processor of domino sugar said that some of their processors use bone char and some of them use other methods. And the head of the company said that if you want the bone char sugar free then you have to look at the label on the domino sugar and if The barcode starts with a 1 4 or 6 then it is bone sharp free but if it has a different number that it starts with that means that it is processed at a company that uses bone char and it is not a clean product free of bone. That's coming from the spokesperson from Domino sugar

I don't understand, if Vegan means not consuming food that comes in contact with leather or bone char, what excludes water from the rule? Processing animal products requires vast amounts of water from the confines of shelters to the processing facilities. That same water returns to the universal water supply for reuse again and again. Water 'treatment' cannot remove the 'contact' used in animal production and/or processing. Once carbon is sequestered (pyrolysis) from organic matter, no lab on earth can distinguish its origin; wood/plant matter, husk, food scraps, insect, mammal, etc... only the pure carbon remains. Carbon production is the purest and most complete form of 'treatment/filtration' known to science. What am I missing here...?
