If this game came out 2-5 years ago, it would probably be a moderate success. However, coming out with a live service looter shooter in 2024 is like starting a disco band a few years after the "Disco Demolition" in 1979. They followed a trend that had already died by the time they got to it.

Looter shooters are cool and totally valid. Although this game certainly is polished and pretty content rich so far.

It's literally same game with same tasks and ideas with minor difference at the end of the game (Babylon using all bosses on you while Brainiac is being the Flash). This is an interesting situation. Unlike Anthem, Redfall or Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, it is not a broken game. But they have made such nonsensical decisions when it comes to story and game design that it has managed to tarnish the reputation of the developer and tainted the Arkham franchise (by claiming it to have taken place in the same universe).

A buddy of mine was playing the game. In the middle of a boss encounter and as he is halfway through, he gets kicked offline for server related issues and had to redo his mission. That, is one of the main reasons I won't pay $70+ for the game or why I'm not interested and I LOVED the Batman games. It being a live service game hurts it. I'll wait for the game to be free on Game pass or something to try it but I've had no intrigued in this game unfortunately.

The problem isn't the game itself, it's what we lost in place of this game. The arkham series were one of the best singeplayer superhero experiences out there, and to see all that talent get put into a generic live-service game is the biggest crime. It's not unlike the story behind redfall last year, and is yet another example of an otherwise great studio succumbing to live-service greed.

How stupid would I sound if I said "I hate Death Stranding 2 because I wanted a new Metal Gear Solid game instead". I think for what SSKTJL is TRYING to be, it does an okay job. I think it is 100% fair to hold some kind of resentment because "I can't believe we got this instead of this other thing", but I don't think that's the game's fault, that's Rocksteady's fault. Don't be mad at the game for not being a completely different game, be mad at Rocksteady for choosing to make that game. There's suspension of disbelief, then there's just flat out bending the story. The squad only wins because the league is stupid and lets them. Flash goes slow enough for the squad to react just in time when he should be going faster. Batman not killing the squad when he had the chance. GL not capturing them like he did when he first met them. Superman doing everything except flying through them or lasering them. This story is pretty bad. The gameplay itself is good but the mission structure doesn't compliment it. The missions are pretty repetitive. Many other reasons, but this game is bad. Ppl are being very generous I feel.

I think if they made it a story game, great. The concept of the story was enough to get me to buy it and play it through. And I had a good enough time with the story. But man, add some god damn ceremony. I also thought I accidentally skipped a cutscene when I killed Flash. Wonder Woman got the most ceremony out of anyone and she wasn’t even an enemy. I literally do not care about the “endgame” I just wanted story. And the story is incomplete because they want to drip feed it over time, but it wasn’t good enough for me to come back every 3 months for a new piece of story. Hearing that DLC will be free, I might come back once I hear the story is actually complete and play through it, but if I also hear future story got the same dry treatment as killing the justice league did, it’ll be a hard sell

To be fair to the end game experience, there is a new type of mission introduced that wasn't already treaded in the campaign: Killing Time. It's an endless survival type thing that gets progressively harder as you keep killing enemies. It's not a new concept they introduced to the genre but it is another activity to break from the monotony of the 3 cycle experience. I'm personally having a lot of fun with the game, the buildcrafting is surprisingly deep for what the game is and the characters feel very different to play which is nice. I'm maining Harley right now because she feels really well-rounded (no pun intended) and it's just generally a good time. They did a good job with the itemization as well, if you get a bad roll of a notorious/legendary item you can craft another one or reroll it so you don't need to farm endlessly just for an item, you can farm the resources instead to help get your build online quicker than other games I think. I wish more people would give this game a shot, I think it does what it was trying to do decently well and is fun on it's own merits

It just doesn’t do enough that’ll pull people away from even better and cheaper (sometimes even free) looter shooters. I’d honestly rather play borderlands 3 if I want loot drops or build crafting. Plus with rocksteady alienating their own fans from the jump with its story and its disrespect of dc comics and their money maker character they basically shot themselves in the foot. While I agree there’s a solid foundation and it may even grow to be one of the all time greats in the loot genre it won’t matter cause nobody even wants to play this. I got to finite 3 before calling it a day cause I knew all that was waiting for me was another brainiac fight that’s not even brainiac. I’ll play it again when season 1 drops but if it’s not amazing it’s probably safe to say this game is going into the same hole as outriders, wonderlands and anthem.

In every game known to man it has always been “go to place, kill bad guys, complete objective” why tf do some games get praised for it even though it’s literally the same thing? With the Arkham games it’s just go into a building and beat up a bunch of people with or without stealth, I’d argue the missions aren’t boring because killing the bad guys is so much fun in a looter shooter. They take like 5 minutes to complete and aren’t really all that difficult but depending on the difficulty could be way harder

Unfortunately micro transactions are never going away, games like Fortnite and destiny have proven that ppl are willing to spend an absurd amount of money on cosmetics. In the case of destiny, players have shown that they don’t mind buying cosmetics along side paying for expansions

I'm a bit confused...you start saying it doesn't deserve the hate it's getting online, but a ton of the reviews are saying similar things to what you are. You even said it's a one and done type game for you which is not what a live service game tends to be. I think the point is that Rocksteady spent some 8 or 9 years and this is what came out of it. I still plan on buying the game myself, but I'm drowned out by all the other actual good game releases right now that I won't bother until this game is a bargain bin type game. Then I'll buy it for $20 or whatever and have a fun weekend with it. It's just a good mediocre game that should have been so much better considering the time investment and the developer that made it.

Let's be honest: the campaign and endgame is garbage for $100... You repeat the same 3 missions for the ENTIRE 8 hour campaign and then for the ENTIRE endgame... The combat and loot game isn't good either. We waited 9 years for this... 9 years of development and this is what we got..

I wasn’t expecting you to make a video on this but I’m very glad you did now. Finally, a fair and constructive take on the game that doesn’t just hop on the hate bandwagon because it’s a live service looter shooter. It’s a far cry from the masterpiece that is the Arkham trilogy but still a fun game. I also respect Rocksteady for not trying to make it a game that completely consumes your time. I’m good. Live service/looter games is a thing of the pass for me. 2500 hours on D2 on PC and probably another 1000-1500 on console. I can’t go the daily task of grinding loot

I think the deaths are unceremonious because they aren’t really dead and they are coming back - but the issue was we don’t know that until/if it comes out so unless you assume it’s not permanent (which makes you not care about any of it) and it also made it so some (it would seem many) people didn’t buy and I feel like you shouldn’t write your game in a way that meks people not want to buy your game when it comes out (at full price).

There was a Football coach that said "You are what your record says you are". For a live service game, you are what your player count says you are . I dont know the numbers, but I will guess its pretty bad given the steam numbers. We all know the issues. 1) The disrespect of the Justice League team, aside from WW 2) Repetitive gameplay 3) The lesser graphics (Than the Arkham Series) 4) The players all being basically the same. The first thing, if you are going to make a game where I am the bad guy, hunting the JL, make me the bad guy. Dont make a shell JL that was mind controlled by Brainiac. Also, maybe it just bothers me, but most(3) of that squad are basically powerless.

I had to stop playing, the god damn constant mobile game pop-up eye candy the fills the screen endlessly made my pupils bleed. Half the time I couldnt tell what the hell was happening onscreen half the time due to the terrible UI,over used particle effects and gazzilions of damage numbers.

Datto, you have a right to an opinion. But I think depending on where the players is coming from, the hate this game is getting is justified. I have played every single player Arkham game. A live service looter shooter is one of the last things I wanted as a follow up and clearly many Arkham fans feel the same. We said this was not the game we wanted and they made it anyway. Comic book fans are pissed because this game butchers the lore. King Shark would never be able to use the Green Latern Ring. Harley's speech to Batman is full of hypocrisy. There was no creativity used to make killing the Justice League make sense. It was lazy to make all the bosses bullet sponges and Flash's boss battle is reused for Superman. Gameplay wise there is ONE enemy faction and the majority of missions are escort missions. After all these years with plenty of examples on how to (not) release a looter shooter, Rocksteady made the same mistakes Marvel Avengers made and Godfall made and Babylon's Fall made. They could have looked to The Division 2, Warframe, Destiny 2, and Boaderlands to see what works. They didnt. No lessons learned so I am glad this game is failing. Stupidity and hubris are the only reason this game is failing and it deserves every amount of ridicule. Looter Shooters have been around for decades. Why are gaming companies still releasing them half baked with no endgame? Boarderlands 1 was released in 2009 and Rocksteady could not be bothered to do some homework on that series and release a compotent game in freaking 2024? Screw that. Not even going to get into the garbage monetization in this $70 to $100 dollar game.

I think that the game is receiving a perfectly acceptable about or negative attention. It’s aggressively mediocre, which in the current market is currently unplayable. When your game is worse than Marvels Avengers from Square Enixx, you’ve got a failure on your hands.
