There are a couple tiny things that either could be the most subtle fake-out writing ever (such as John's ring not flying off to find a new host, Flash re-growing his finger, etc) but it could also just be an example of horrible writing and missing those details. I cannot on here discuss the actual leaks for the game, but they're pretty easy to find online now, and do point to more for these characters and story. That said - I don't think that changes the fact that the base game story is depressing, lacks hope, and feels mean-spirited and like a big middle finger to fans of the prior games. It also doesn't change the fact that the mission structure quickly becomes repetitive, there was a focus on trying to appease people over telling a succinct story, and as fun as Metropolis is, I can't help but feel like this world would have been more interesting in a Superman game. I know people will fight, regardless, but I ask that you show respect to others in the comments. Mods have begun removing people blatantly picking fights, being disrespectful, threatening, etc.

The main defense I hear for making The Flash go through all those awful things before being killed is that the game is supposed to be told from the perspective of the Suicide Squad, and since they don't have any compassion for the members of the Justice League, neither should the audience. The problem I have with this argument is that it's really hard to root for the Suicide Squad. Sure, they're just bumbling buffoons who managed to defeat the powerful Justice League through dumb luck. But the story can't seem to decide whether to present them as pitiful underdogs trying to acquire self respect, or as tragic pariahs seeking redemption, or as bad@sses seeking revenge and spitting cool one-liners every other kill, and thus I'm just not emotionally invested in seeing them succeed.

What they did with Deadshot was enough for me to consider this non-canon to the Arkham games. I would have considered giving it a shot, but after seeing what they did with Arkham Batman, I am not touching this game within a ten foot pole. Terminator only has two movies, just like Batman Arkham series only has four games. The story is already complete.

Yeah, I totally understand that standpoint and to be honest that's basically how I feel about Terminator as well. I'm fine with salvation or maybe that Sarah Connor Chronicles show, Because I feel they were respectful for the most part from everything I watched, but really after T2 there's nothing that is not special IMO. I'll have to rewatch the movies at some point but I always wished they had kept the Terminator from T2 around if they were going to do another movie and just round it out with a trilogy with him as a protagonist again. As it was, 2 was a great ending and should have ended it. By the way, the funny thing with the Deadshot situation is they've brought it up in the story four times now. It comes up once at the Batman museum, once or twice when they are just roaming around and other squad mates ask about it, and it came up once in the opening cutscene as a joke. They just keep bringing it up. It would almost be better to just not mention it because it really feels like they are trying to triple down on saying it's not a silly change and that it was totally normal that Batman and everyone else missed the fact that this other guy was a faker for a decade.

I never really understood why Rocksteady said that Harley and Ivy had a relationship. From what we saw from the Harley dlc in Arkham Knight, it never really came off that way. Not to mention that Harley was still extremely obsessed with the Joker even after his death in both Knight and the Harley Quinn Revenge dlc in Arkham City. Ivy sacrificing herself in Knight also kinda feels pointless cause she got brought back in such odd way. I understand that this was already done in the comics but the writing in this game wasn't good.

I thought you were exaggerating about how much the writers seem to hate DC but the further I look into this game through audio tapes and character bios they might as well have actually gotten Lex Luthor to write this game. They treat Superman’s optimism as naivety because his ideals are “outdated” meanwhile this pessimistic mindset has become more outdated over time as more people yearn for a hopeful Superman. The most obvious example is the death of the heroes like I understand the villains would resent the heroes but the things they say sound more like the writer speaking through the character instead of the actual characters speaking for themselves. Instead of Harley holding a grudge Batman for failing to save the Joker she says something along the lines of “Batman should donate his money to the poor instead of fighting the mentally ill.” So when they eventually bring them back I won’t be surprised if they end up being at the end of another joke again.

My thoughts on Gotham Knights' storyline by WBM was pretty meh when it came out, but looking at it retrospectively, even that game gave A LOT more reverence to their Batman than SSKTJL did for the Arkham Batman. As you said, it's just...... mean spirited. Plus, I just don't get those people who say "these JL deaths will be reversed in future DLC & all will be forgiven." It's just saying ends will always justify the means, and I don't buy that. For those who actually like this game, well got nothing against them, but as for me; "This is how the Arkhamverse died."

Like I already knew that woke shit was being forced into movies and stuff but I couldn't notice it in games til I started looking really hard and listening really intently. Usually it's pretty subtle and easy to miss but recently it's been getting pretty blatant and in your face. We just want our games to be fun and the characters to be attractive, it seems pretty weird that sweet baby's entire purpose is to force political garbage into every game they can inject themselves into (Spider-Man 2 being one of the biggest recent examples). I agree with pretty much everything you said the ONLY thing I kind of enjoyed and think made sense was how disrespectful they were. Arkham has always been a dark universe but we didn’t see things like peeing on bodies bc we were in Batman’s perspective. It makes sense that when we play as the villains that we would see their darker side. If it feels bad that means they are being true to their nature of being horrible people. To me it makes plenty of sense, I don’t like seeing it but I also expect it from those characters. Joker had horrible horrible implied crimes from bios and audio tapes. The reality is they are really bad people we were just shielded from it bc we were Batman. Now there is no filter we are in the minds and bodies of monsters. Forget about the story, this game isnt worth sinking hours into because it's short and repetitive. The loot isn't worth grinding (there's barely any grinding). Missions are all the same. The open world is empty. The combat is fun, but I don't think people will return until the new seasons.

The short version is I still think they should have had Gotham Knights be Arkhamverse and this be a complete standalone since (I don't think it really matters anyway?) but the story itself was fine ignoring that I guess? 100%. If there was a bunch of right-wing politics infiltrating the game's story and undermining this creative world, that would also be an issue. I think people forget about that so I'm glad you pointed it out. I'm actually okay with some level of politics in fiction, because things like Star Trek, at least the classic, show that you can do that well. The problem is when you get preachy people who want to dictate what you and I can enjoy and how we should think and not influence us to think. That's the big difference. If you want to pose questions to me, make me think and make a point, you can do that intentionally, respectfully, and with good writing. This really doesn't feel like any of that to me.

Batman death in particular is the most mean spirited and disrespectful death in the entire arkham verse. He survived literally things that were 1000% worse than bullets. The same man who survived and defeated 8 assassins, took back the asylum, brought a end to arkham city and almost single handedly took down some of the strongest villains in his rouges catalog meanwhile winning against a mental battle with joker in ONE NIGHT in knight is the same one who gets killed by harley with...bullets...execution style. @@Mirltones Yeah that's the main issue with these "Games as a service" or "live service" games. If it's just going to get better, why play now? That's also why they do the FOMO stuff in most games, so you have to unless you don't care. I play Fallout 76 off and on in waves, because I love the world of Fallout and my wife plays it with me, but if I don't play x hours during x season I can't unlock certain items. It's really silly, because the game is better now than it was at launch, but starting now you missed tons of content you just can't get unless they grace you with putting it in the store and overcharging for it. That's why I'm shocked Squad isn't doing fomo with it's battle passes, which is a genuinely cool move, but it actually just reinforces that it's better to wait and see if they fix the story problems (which imo are huge and glaring) and add better gameplay variety.

Tbf, with the angle that the death screens are shown at, it's not like they could've had a villain piss on you. In Suicide Squad, it's not like Boomerang's big meaty Aussie dick is shown in full view of the camera, because of course they set the camera angle to not show that. Because they can't show that. Death screens are set at a very specific unchanging angle, which happens to be at the perfect angle where you'd see the full fucking shower head if someone were to piss on you. There's no way to censor that, you literally can't have a pissing Arkham-style death screen without uncensoring the dick.

The way you talk about how the Justice League was treated in this game sums up how I feel about what was done to the character of "Tails Nine" in Sonic Prime. Feels pretty shitty having your favorite character ever (Tails, for me) AND your favorite superhero ever (Batman) treated so despicably, in canon, and in the same month. Needless to say, I'm dealing with a hefty helping of depression these days... At least the Batman backlash weirdly helps a little, but as far as Tails, I'm quite alone in how I feel...

Obviously not trying to tell you how to live your life, but something I would personally recommend is going back and enjoying the stories that you feel treat those things. Respectfully and that make you happy. Even if you've already enjoyed them 100 times, I find that that kind of thing makes me feel a lot better, knowing that there is all this other media out there that I really enjoy and that I don't have to waste a bunch of my time on things that don't seem to care about my opinion or enjoyment. Here for a similar story line, Brainiac has the JL Members but not Bat man yeah, also include Cyborg and Aqua Man, it would be Batman with his crew family working as a team hunting one JL MEMBER at a time, while we CAN CHOOSE To play as like over 10 suicide Squad members , not just those four members in Shark, Harly, Dead shot and Boomerang Boy, ill have it so Amanda is in charge with Flagg but with other members like Death Stroke Captain Cold Killer Frost Bane Blood Sport Bronze Tiger Katana Peace Maker so that's 10 in total with the other 4 so the missions will be to FIND FIGHT AND TAKE down each JL Member as a team and will have to call out like 4 other members so you will be like in a team of eight Suicide Squad Members while you all fight as a team to bring in that one stand alone JL Member and have a great great team up close and personal fight to bring down each member, also then bring down eavh JL Member by A DIFFERENT Method each time. then after beating and capturing each JL Member, 7 of them , then after they get ther minds clear the JL Members with the Batman family members with all suicide Squad members will ALL UNITE AND TAKE ON BRAINIAC and his thousands of Aliens, have one LONG LONG BOSS BATTLE, NOT OVER THE TOP , BUT JUST RIGHT, And you will play as each SUICIDE SQUAD Member in that FINAL Brainiac fight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh that's totally fine! I actually appreciate it because I'm trying out new music and it's really hard to find new music that is copyright free that doesn't sound like trash. Personally, I think this is fine for this one, but if other people don't like these two songs, because it's mainly 2 long songs on loop, I will try something else. A lot of people were complaining that my music was too repetitive before, but then when I removed it they were complaining that it made the video feel less alive, so I'm kind of trying to find a middle ground. I appreciate you letting me know and I don't really take it as a criticism or attack, that's the kind of stuff I need to know if it connects with you guys or not.

Yeah, people keep mistaking my criticism and bringing up the worst argument ever- they keep saying it's called kill the justice league. Yes, we can all read. The problem is , it was done so disrespectfully and there was really no heroism about it. Was just basically shock value and shock factor. It's very possible they could reverse all of it and say clones or resurrection or whatever, but it doesn't take away the fact that the entire main story seems to be written to upset fans like you and me, and even if they walk that back, I still personally find that to be mean spirited writing of the original story. A game developer described this very well. Online- we keep getting well made bad games. The people who worked on this game clearly did their jobs. Programmers did the programming well. The game is mostly pretty, though I would argue that Arkham Knight looks better. Even the music is well done. It's not really the individual people or pieces working on it, which I think often developers think that they are personally being attacked, but instead it's the overall idea and execution of the concept that comes off as disrespectful to people who grew up with these characters. And what's really funny is that a lot of the people who like the game just keep saying stuff like you shouldn't care or it shouldn't bother you, as if you should just consume every single piece of media ever and not think. I personally don't like that methodology of enjoyment. There are certain things that i think you can do that with, but it's okay to have an emotional attachment, like you pointed out here.

Since Rocksteady is doing this multiverse “else-world” stuff. I think they should have Thomas Wayne’s Batman be a playable character and have a flashpoint event. I do hope they have a better gameplay loop and have it be salvageable as a game as time goes on. Shame what they did to Kevin Conroy’s batman.

But the fact that they had to water down feminine appeal in these women characters so much is just so disheartening. The real problem I have with projects like these is that they can't succeed or fail on their own, in this case there being no real reason for the game to be set in the Arkhamverse except to lean on it as a crutch for the built in audience those previous games built. It's also, as you guys mentioned, just a way to get cheap drama since now it's specifically Arkham Batman who's getting capped and not just Batman 575 from the DEI Dimension.

As someone who played all the way through this game. I actually had a ton of fun with the combat and thought the story was good actually for the most part. My major issue is obviously Batman. They killed off my favorite Batman that I first met in 2009 when I was 7 years old from my favorite video game series. I think Batman should of been the character that didn’t get brainwashed instead of Wonder Woman and he doesn’t want to work with the squad but he shows up during boss fights to help the squad. Oh and also Robin is presumed dead as well wish is god damn stupid. But Batman should of lived at the end of the day. A little tiny part of me thinks that at the end of all the dlc they will bring a Batman into the story but it won’t be our Arkham Batman. So it doesn’t matter.

There's actually a lot of them I really like. I really like Andrea, and I thought that the Phantasm movie was one of the best Batman experiences I've ever had. Personally. I really like him with Selina, when they are writing them well. That said, Tom King tried to actually marry the two of them and it ended up being forced into an else world's story, which really bummed me out because DC does not want to shake up the Batman continuity, except making him randomly poor now. I thought that wonderbat was a great pairing in the DCAU, especially. In the DCAU, my favorite is probably Andrea tied with Wonder woman. But there's a lot of great ones. Even his romantic connection with Zatanna was great. It's kind of a difficult question to ask because there's been a lot of people. I think Batman could have been happy with but unfortunately never ended up staying with.

Reasonable and fair review. I'm glad I'm not the only one that found the gameplay fun. Don't necessarily agree with your criticism on the disrespect on the characters, mainly because these are versions of the characters (outside Batman) that we were just introduced to, in a game where we're supposed to kill them, so I guess for me personally, the emotional investment in these versions of the characters simply isn't there, so I don't mind if they die, but I do think it was wasted potential. As for the cynical/edgy tone of the game, it's hard to deny that the Squad has been characterized like this in the comics ever since the New 52 take on the team, so I don't think it should've been that surprising. However, I think that the biggest mistake was setting this in the Arkhamverse at all. If it was outside it, I think people would've been far more reasonable with the story. (Hope I don't piss anyone off with this, lol)

Gotham Knights 7/10, fun and enjoyable with some replay value. Suicide squad kill the justice league 2/10, not worth the price of admission. To many refunds being done, studio is trying to use multiverse plot to salvage it. Ruined Kevin Conroy’s legacy with the infamous scene, poor storyline plot and dialogue.

Personally, I love this game. The gameplay, the story, and the boss fights. But yes, i do agree with some flaws. Like Flash's death. Or Batman's death. But for the most part, I love the game. Sure, there's a bit of disrespect to the Justice League. But, I don't let that get too far in the way of my experience and enjoyment, especially since we don't know what happens next.

The way they treated GL was worse for me. John's body was still warm and King Shark cuts the finger off and just puts the ring on and he's a Lantern now. *That's not how Lantern Corps rings work* Then we see a dead GL in green boxers because HaHa funny.

I will say this- the clone theory would clear up a lot of problems with the story. That said, I still think that they wrote the story purposely as kind of a rage bait type of story in order to get people talking and upset. Even if they change the continuity with a retcon, or they say it was clones all along, it was still very clearly written to get under the skin of people for how it treated the heroes, real or not. But it wouldn't have done that at all if they had just confirmed in the base game they released, at the end of the base game, that that wasn't the real league. I think they thought it would keep people coming back and that people would be more lenient and it's kind of backfiring, because most of the comments I'm seeing are people that were really annoyed with the way the game was written. It's one thing to kill off the justice league, but it's another thing to do it in a weirdly mean spirited manner without at all actually confirming that theory. This is a games as a service game, but a lot of people are never going to come back to check out the expanded story because they're going to be so mad at what they played. I don't really think that's a great strategy.

I'm still looking forward to this game personally. Don't have time currently so maybe it'll be on sale or on gamepass by the time I do. I'm honestly ok with the bad guys being unrepentive bad guys. Flash is my favorite DC hero and I'm perfectly fine with Boomer being a dick and peeing on his corpse. Also the whole bomb in Ivy's head thing I'm fine with. It would honestly feel weird to me if the bad guys were somber about killing the JL this is kinda what they've wanted the whole time so them celebrating and being disrespectful to them fits imo. I saved the full 100 dollars to get this game over the course of a few months, I'm so glad I went with my gut to see it first before buying, I absolutely REFUSE to play this game unless they make some kind of change that makes the story more palatable or even just creating an alternate game mode outside the story where you could possibly play as the characters, similar to Marvel's Avengers, which even though i could not care less about that story or the missions, I still to this day hop on to play as my favorite comic book characters because even though the game lacked drive, it was fun to play the main avengers.

I literally had no problem with Harley's new outfit until I saw the Knight-outfit-rejection scene. I liked the new suit (for the most part), but now it just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Talk about not knowing when to stfu & shooting yourself in the foot.

If it was just a new outfit and that's it, totally the same. I actually am fine with the look as just a look on its own. I think you should still have the option to use those old Arkham suits because they're pretty iconic, but if they don't want that to be the base suit that's fine with me and I respect it. It's more just the rejection scene that I think really drives it home, along with the consulting writing studio and then the fact that the whole game seems to operate as a rejection of the heroes of the Arkham Universe, at least right now until they pull some random shenanigans to say it was clones or a multiverse variant or blah blah blah. Blah. And I get that people keep saying that that could happen, which I also agree, but I still think that there are a lot of things in this game that are very clearly done to frustrate people and I'm not really a big fan of that writing strategy.

I'm so sick of continuations/reboots/revivals/whatever that shit on the source material, especially when they backpedal & are like "don't worry, guys, it was just a joke/misdirection. You don't have to be so soft by caring about this thing we're mishandling on purpose". It's almost every piece of media at this point, it's gotten really grueling to keep going through. As for Harley's OG outfits, I'm sure they have absolutely no plans to include them at all, they're too "NSFW" for the company now (even though it's literally an adult-targeted game, but whatever). Best case scenario, we get them as a last desperate attempt for money when most people stop playing; otherwise, I just don't see it happening ever.

I’ve played it and I’ll put it like this If you don’t like SHOOTERS then don’t get the game. If you hate the story then dont get the game. It’s simple. If you don’t even like the genre of the game then there is no point in even looking at it. Me personally shooters don’t bother me. The traversal is fun. And if you master it with the combat it makes the game better. There are options to turn off things in the packed hud and it makes the experience better. As for story though I’m not yet done with it is very meh. Most of my enjoyment has come from playing with my friends

I think the original plan was to make people pay for the new characters/seasons. I think they realized that this game wasn’t going to be well received and that there was no way people were going to pay for more content, so they made it free in hopes that that would keep people playing and that maybe some of those people would buy new skins. I think this game is going to have a very short life span. I don’t think we’ll get any content beyond what’s already been announced and I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t even get that.

Of course Rocksteady chose to have Harley Quinn kill Batman in a humiliating way - she’s the go-to character for the “male gaze” types, even though her best days as a character were with Arleen Sorkin’s voice work as Joker’s girlfriend/sidekick in BTAS and Arkham Asylum. Also, why can’t we get a Justice League game where the JLA are the heroes and not some twisted, evil version?
