Hello again! It's me, back for another Survivalcraft video review! I actually wasn't expecting a follow-up to your last video regarding Survivalcraft so quickly, so this was a welcome surprise. Once again, props to you for listening to feedback and criticism (which is quite rare these days). Anyway, enough with that, time for my review haha. 0:20 It's quite debatable, actually. Yes, the copyright for most platforms has not been updated since 2022; however, that doesn't mean the developer has abandoned the game. In fact, he's actually put out a few 'updates' since 2022, although they weren't really much to get excited over. First, the privacy policy for the Android (and other mobile appstores I believe) was updated in April of 2023, which at least means that Kaalus is still interested in keeping the game on the appstores. Second, around a few months later (don't have the exact date) the Community Content server received a few QOL updates. The world size, number of downloads, upload date, and world version number were all updated and/or improved. Again, it's not much, but it was a change that technically wasn't even needed to be updated in regards to legality (such as an updated privacy policy), so that's something. In my mind, a game isn't DEAD until it's taken off of official appstores/gamestores. Survivalcraft has a stagnate community, but it's not DEAD until you can no longer obtain the game legally. Of course, the debate on what makes a game dead or not is subjective, but that's just my take on it. You addressed that point quite well, so no complaints here. 1:15 This reason alone is why I'm still playing Survivalcraft to this day (although nowhere near as much due to college). I rarely ever play Survival mode, mainly because I lose interest quite quickly. When third-party multiplayer for Survivalcraft dropped back in January 2023, my view on Survival changed quite drastically; however, this didn't last long as the mod didn't either (which is a topic for another time). Ironically, the creative mode aspect of Survivalcraft is, in many ways, the much better (and more captivating) aspect of the game. Especially with the furniture system, the possibilities are literally endless (just like Minecraft). 2:02 We actually have a discord bot in the official Survivalcraft discord server that allows you to search the current community content cache, among other things. However, that's not a very accessible or viable solution for many people, and with good reason. This is a feature me and many others have been wanting for years, I guess we just weren't loud enough... 2:37 Agreed. Although, the current temperature system is much better than the old one, a few changes could go a long way (such as increasing the amount of time it takes for one to die of hypothermia). 3:04 This is another feature request that many of us have been asking for the longest time. Honestly it's still quite shocking to me that Minecraft has more crop and food varieties than Survivalcraft after all this time... especially since the latter has way more animal species, as well as a larger focus on realism and survival. It is what it is though, although it's something I've been voicing for a long time now. Only time will tell, really. 3:21 Once again, this is a feature idea that has been suggested by many in the discord and forum for a long time. I've actually suggested the idea of preservation via salt; boiling seawater to obtain raw salt which could then be used to increase the preservation time of a given food item, while also simultaneously decreasing the amount of nutrition (i.e. hunger bars to be refilled) such item would provide when eaten. Such a system would hopefully be a much more balanced way to preserve food long term, while not being overly powerful or unrealistic. Of course, an ice or refrigeration box would also be a fair choice (something most people tend to suggest, such as yourself). 4:15 Many of us have theorized about where and when Survivalcraft is supposed to take place. We clearly know Walter (aka the player) is a pirate who was marooned on an island (or continent) by his crew, due to the game intro scene and description. We also know that there were previous inhabitants on the same land mass as Walter, due to the presence of gravestones, animal traps, and cairns. That's about it. Just about every craftable item reasonably fits within the 17th-18th centuries, except for electronics. The presence of which just sticks out among everything else (just like this comment). Clearly, the real answer is that Kaalus didn't choose the option of preserving the integrity of a specific time period over game mechanics and features, but that's no fun. So, if we want to make an argument that Survivalcraft takes place in a specific time period, then there are a few conclusions we can come to. Explanation one, is that Walter is literal a genius and outpaced inventors by a few hundred years (give or take). Explanation two, is that Walter lives in the current time period (21st century most likely) and is trying to one-up Primitive Technology by stranding himself on an abandoned land mass with nothing but his clothes and unparalleled wits. Explanation three, is that the entirety of Survivalcraft takes place in Walter's head during a crack-induced coma (that's just a theory, Survivalcraft Theory haha). 7:33 I agree. I also find that there isn't enough 'blend' or space between regions with contrasting temperatures (such as deserts being next to plains regions). I know Minecraft used to have this same issue, but I think Mojang has (attempted) to address it. Fun fact: 'biomes' in Survivalcraft are actually referred to as 'regions', with the only determining factor being the local temperature and humidity. 7:55 Short answer - you don't. It was primarily designed for those who have tablets or TVs who want to play with siblings or friends in the same physical space. You can also use remote broadcasting services such as Parsec to play with someone else via a WAN network, although the latency can be quite poor... 8:02 The caves aren't... horrible. But yes, they also aren't great. When 2.2 released, which was the terrain generation overhaul update, I was pretty disappointed that Kaalus didn't even touch the cave generation. So yeah, they do feel lackluster now since only above-ground generation was overhauled. In terms of ores, I could go on and on about what could be included and also make sense in terms of survival and realism, but this comment is getting way too long (I've done it again, oops...) so that's going to have to be a topic for another time... 8:12 *Magma pits :) 9:09 Glad my explanation was helpful to you :) 9:22 That's partly because almost all of the block textures (at least in 2.0+) are rendered at 64x64 pixels instead of the standard 16x16 utilized by Minecraft. There also tends to be a lot more detail texture-wise than in Minecraft (although MC is getting better in that department). 9:25 Better ambience would be amazing, I agree 100%. 9:38 Third-party shaders for Survivalcraft do exist now. I've never used them, and they're far from being in a completed state, but they do exist. 10:11 That would be amazing, you totally should :) 10:24 What really captivated me, was the electronics system. I've talked about this in more depth previously, but it's really the only reason why I continue playing and creating things. At some point, I'm going to have to part ways with this game, at least in regards to creative projects, but this game will always hold a special place in my heart. I doubt that nostalgic feeling that this game holds for me will ever fully dissipate, which is true for many of those who still play this game on a consistent basis. 10:32 Uh, funny story, a few of us in the official discord server decided to send the developer a free pizza (I'm not kidding). He ended up moving sometime afterwards, so we don't know where he lives now. Yeah... that happened. Anyway, that just about wraps up this review/comment. Once again, great job on the video, and I hope to see you continue to cover this game (you should totally do that Let's Play sometime). Alright, I'll talk to y'all later, bye for now!

Hey there! Since march or April I found this game and immediately liked it! Can't believe I got 57 diamonds some how and speaking of diamonds I like realistic survival games. Also it is not a copy of minecraft it is inspired by minecraft i think. And I am not a bot. I love this game! It's more challenging , more ores to find and it makes sense like create a door it gives 1! create a piston it gives five! Because it is built with 5 semiconductor block so it gives 5! also in pistons we need 1 copper ingot so it make sense because it is powered with buttons or I don't know. Thanks for reading! Wth thanks for reading? Nah nothing Edit- I actually found it in 2017 or 2018 or 2019 I forgot

I fully agree with you! Despite me having played games that most people would say are a lot better (e.g. Persona, Rhythm Doctor, Portal, Half-Life) this still remains one of my all-time favourites! I really enjoy the gameplay, atmosphere and art direction and I love seeing people praise and bring attention to the game like this!

I think it's totally worth it. I'm not big into survival but I really love creative mode, especially making adventure maps, tho I didn't make too many, been busy with a big one.

I consider Vintage Story to be a spiritual successor to not just TerraFirmaCraft, but SurvivalCraft also.
