I’m a seventy seven yo widow living on forty acres in the mid west. Have a fifteen year old Polaris 6x6 with a dump bed that gets be about anywhere getting my own wood. I use electric chain saws that are lighter for me to use. Sometimes I really don’t care for company for a long time and try to be as self sufficient as possible. have a very reliable handy man that is reasonable and actually shows up when needed which is not very often maybe once a month. I also use firewood to heat and keep over a weeks worth on the back porch that was so handy when we had the ice storm a few days ago. Take care out there!

I have been living a remote life for over 40 years. The very 1st thing I do in the spring is get all my firewood in for the YEAR. My wood stove burns at least 8 months of the year,24/7. Without firewood I would not be able to make it. I get it 1st thing just in case through out the year I should break an arm or leg and wouldn't be able to get it. The smallest Of problems Put you dead in your tracks. Everybody can use a hand now and then for help that's normal. All we can do is,as much as possible by ourself. You're doing good give yourself a pat on the back.

My dear, Dick Proenneke lived in a one-room cabin. You have a massive home and other structures. My best friend's husband was crazy about the Proenneke story. He was fascinated by his life. He walked many miles every day for hunting, picking berries, etc. Some of the food came to him by plane. You got this girl, hang in there. :-)

I like your videos just the way they are. I like how you explain your lifestyle and the plans that you have. Everything takes time and planning and finances. Living off grid is hard work, especially in the winter months. It requires a lot of energy and time just to get the daily chores done and only then can the other non-essential things be attended to. I also love the old-fashioned way you do your dishes that’s what I do too. I use cotton hand towels to wash and linen towels to dry. I only use a scrubber broom stick material and do that with my cast-iron that Has to be done that way, but I don’t use sponges or any types of modern implements to clean or care for my house. Everything is very vintage and old. I love that you’re doing that. It’s also helping you environment..

Girl, you're doing what I wanted to do, many years ago. When I came out of high school, I wanted to go to Alaska to live. I had a lot of skills (thanks to my parents) and I probably would have done well. However, life had other ideas and that dream never was able to be realized. Now, being a senior senior, I know I couldnt do it. Too many health issues and a big family😂Although they are all adults with their own lives, I still wouldnt want to be 3000 or miles away. I enjoy your videos and watching you tackle life, your way. I live rural and as simple as I can. Raise most of my own food and just enjoy doing what I can. May God continue to bless your life.

Hi, Alone! I’m super excited for the completion of your bathroom. I can wait though, as I know it takes time as a one woman team. I love your channel and especially love when you shoot your videos in the cabin. I’m older and wish KZbin was a thing back in my day. Videos like yours may have changed many things about the vicinity of my life. Of course those of us who prefer seclusion and isolation know we cannot live life without asking for a helping hand at times. I completely understand your point of views. I can do months without human interaction and I’m ok with that. 😂 Please be mindful about how much you share with others. So what if they think you have another behind the camera, let them. Have you ever thought about having a or some helping hands come out and stay on your property in exchange for hunting your land? You answered the one question I had about how you were going to drain the tub. We got 10 inches of snow here in Tennessee and we are trying to get back to normal. No mail for 2 weeks nor garbage pickup. Schools and most businesses closed. It was days before we could even get out of our driveways because the temperatures dropped down to zero and stayed very cold for at least a week. This was not normal for here. Thanks for sharing. Not having a support network down where I was at definitely played a part in why I left. I'd met some of the neighbors but I didn't have time to build a friendly relationship with anyone there. It wasn't a big reason, but it was a reason for sure. That's also why I decided not to look for land down there, I'm going to stick to where I have friends already. 🙂

Hi Matt! It can definitely be hard to get things done when you're the only one around to do them. And making friends up here can sometimes be hard too. I have heard people say that they tend to not get close to people until they have been in the area for several years for fear that they will just leave due to not being able to handle it here. It is nice to have a support network. Having to buy wood where you are, has to be expensive. Knowing what you know, do you wish you had bought a smaller cabin?

Good question John. When I built my home in 2019, I built a relatively small home in todays standard. I heat with firewood, and the house is well insulated. Glad I didnt listen to those saying I needed to build bigger. Firewood is crazy expensive here these days also. I always buy raw wood in the spring, its cheaper. I stack it in my garage (uninsulated, metal roof, gets hot in there in the summer) and let it dry over the summer, ready to be used after Christmas the same year.

It's part of the process, and just about anyone can do it. It's that process of using one's creativity to create a unique lifestyle that is "pure luxury" to me!

After your baths in your tub you could use that bath water to wash sheets & towels & blankets, coats... Bigger type laundry & use some to mop floors & then drain water from tub & then douse the clothes in tub with rinse water & then drain & leave clothes laying in tub for awhile to let more water keep dripping out.

Dick Prenoki was a legend . I love watching his videos from long ago . My Dad used to watch his documentary every time it came on TV . Would love to live like he did . I feel like it's a good thing to acknowledge that in much of life we need one another. Not to say you can't survive on your own (not just you, everyone) but there might come a time when they need you... and that's ok. You're literally one of the most self sufficient humans I'm personally aware of. You put me to shame, every day.

Make sure that what you stuff in those crevices doesn't rust. Copper mesh is a good alternative. A lot of wildlife removal services use copper mesh and then an expanding foam. The foam keeps animals from pulling the mesh out. The mesh keeps animals from chewing through the foam. They work together to keep pesties out.

I used sandpaper-type grip tape on the vintage steep wooden stairs at my old cabin. I have big feet so it helped me quite a lot. Amazon probably sells it.

You have such good reasoning for all the answers to peoples questions. Some of the questions are not appropriate or the people have no clue about living alone. I’m scared for you (I can’t stay alone, even with my Winchester and Glock), but you have security handled. Oh boy silly inappropriate question🤣🤣 I think the booties are great. I’ve read that after 10 min, dogs feet start to freeze. Our area was negative 35 below for a week ( Chicago) and my dog absolutely loved to play and run outside with his toys. Go figure. Have you considered buying a cheap/used saw mill set up? If you did that, and considered changing from cedar to whatever tree material is available on your property (or close by that you could source) you could then possibly find someone close enough by to help you with milling some wood to finish the inside of your cabin with and it would likely work out to be MUCH less expensive, and you'd also have better flexibility in accessing that material instead of trying to schedule someone to deliver massive amounts of it over long distances. You could have a helper work with you to handle the biggest logs to cut them down to more manageable sizes for you to work with when you are trying to work alone. I'm a contractor in New Hampshire myself, and I'd be happy to help you devise some kind of plan if you want to look further into an idea like that. You are doing great though no matter how you go about it! Impressive

Nobody can really ever live alone. It’s extremely difficult and we’re not meant to be that way we are social animals. I never understand the complete isolationist attitude even where I live, which is very isolated. There is still humanity around and there is a small town nearby without that I would never survive. And I would not want to. Even living out here sometimes I really miss back home. I miss the city. I miss my friends and it’s a day-to-day how long I’ll do it you just never know.I’m glad you have some people around you. We’re supposed to be around people.

You truly inspire me, my friend! I had to laugh when you were beeping at the birds. I was putting up new feeders yesterday, and I was telling all the birds about them as I did it. 😂😂 The chickadees and nuthatches were watching me, and they jumped right on the new feeders as soon as I walked away. 😊 Kenai looks adorable in his boots! Ever heard of the commune called Ionia? They're in the Kenai Penninsula and have been there since the 80s. They seem to fly low on the radar.
