@@farded21 you can’t do it without Wi-Fi. So, before I leave the house for an extended trip, I make my Switch Lite the Primary Console so that I can play my downloaded games without Wi-Fi later on (on a plane for example)

What a mess. Nintendo need to sort their online infrastructure and general attitude towards save games out. All games should be able to be backed up and played on multiple switch Machines. If Sony and Microsoft can do it so can Nintendo.

@Melvin Frazier I disagree. I have five Xbox Ones (click my profile). I start playing a game in one room, walk into another. As long as I'm logged into my account, it automatically syncs for a couple of seconds and it lets me start wherever I left off. Just like Netflix. I have close to 400 games and never had any problems with any of them.

@@timothylewis2527 Isn't Xbox the only console that can do that though? I own a PS4, and I've never seen a scenario where you could do something like that. In fact from my experience PS4 does it exactly the same as Switch, my friend and I actually just got done setting up my account on his PS4. You create a new User, sign in, and then you have to manually download the games and save data, it's not automatic. And just like on Switch, the same account can't be used by more than one PS4. If my friend signs into my PlayStation account, my PS4 can't sign into it without kicking him out. Steam Family Sharing works the same way too, you're sharing the account that the games are linked to, not the games themselves.

Here is a MUCH SIMPLER METHOD! Deactivate your primary console in the eshop under your account info. Once you turn your other unit on...It will become your primary console with nothing more to do other than turning it on. When you're done, deactivate it and turn your other console on...It will now be back to primary. It takes literally two minutes. Problem Solved. Thank me later ;)

It is pretty simple to do everything. How do you propose to simplify it? Edit: The only ones that give trouble are the games w/o cloud saves. The others you just sign in and redownload the games, updates, DLC, and cloud saves.

Optitron98 allow people to register more than one device or better yet don’t be so strict with it. I can download a game on my Xbox or PlayStation and can play on any of my consoles in the house or let my son play those games on his console. A great idea would be to let people link the games to the family account.

Nintendo are trying to avoid simultaneous play of a single copy of a game. While obviously that's impossible with a physical version, with a digital version they demand this check in procedure so you're not, say, playing your digital copy of Mario Kart with someone else. I'm not familiar with PS or XB, and if they allow simultaneous play of the same digital copy, that's their business decision.

@@davidgregory4602 I know I'm 7 months late to this conversation, but I'm legitimately confused by what people want here, and why they say this is so inconvenient compared to other consoles. I own a PS4 and can say from experience that it basically works the same way, I fail to see what it is about the PS4 that makes this process easier. My friend and I just set up my account on his PS4 so we can transfer my FF7R game and save to his PS4 for when I go to his place to stream. It literally works the same way, you create a new User on the PS4, sign into your account, and then download the games and the save data manually. We also found out that if my friend signs into my account on his PS4, it boots me out of it on my PS4, despite my PS4 being set as the primary PS4. It's vise versa also, if I sign back in to my account, he gets booted out of my account on his PS4. The saves also don't have any form of automatic sync, my friend has to download my cloud save manually before every stream. It all seems to be the exact same way that the Switch does it, so what's different? Am I missing something? If anything, I consider the PS4 to be less convenient for doing this, since it's not portable like the Switch is. The Xbox One is the only console that seems to have this automatic cross save functionality where everything syncs automatically, at least I think. I don't own an Xbox, so I don't know how the Xbox does it.

Another caveat to setting the Lite as the main console is other users on the Regular Switch can't play your games without using your account. But accounts on the Lite can use your games without signing into yours

TheGameCreator13 yep. this is why this method is usually employed to share game libraries. you’d have your console with someone else’s account on there set as primary, allowing you to play their games and you to play your own via authentication, and they’d have yours on theirs set as primary so they can play your games as well as their own via authentication.

I think I'll skip out on the lite for now. But if by chance Nintendo ever releases a "docked console only" switch pro in the future, I may get that and the lite. Have one I can take on the go and have one that's exclusively at home. Dont have to worry about scratching the screen when docking and dont have to worry about joycon locks wearing down from taking them on and off all the time. Just cloud save all my games and play them on both systems. I think that would be a wonderful setup.

Nintendo is once again stuck in 10 years in the past. My save data transfers between my Xbox and PC automatically. Microsoft doesn't punish regular users by disallowing cloud saves in certain games because some people might cheat. Nintendo has a paid online service now. There is no reason to not have cross saves for every game between the two Switch models. If cross saving was as simple as on Xbox I would buy a Swttch Lite.

Digital games are tied to the account they are purchased on, that's how it works on every single digital game platform, not just Nintendo's. Sony, Microsoft, Steam, Origin, EGS, they all do it that way. It's called DRM. It seems now people who have gone all digital are starting to realize why there's still a market for physical games, and why GOG has started getting popular. 🤔

@funkycat Pokemon Let's Go doesn't support cloud saves, number one. That's why it didn't transfer. Not saying I fully agree with it, but that's why it didn't work for you. Secondly, I own a PS4 and can tell people from experience that Sony doesn't have automatic cross saves either, only Xbox has that feature via the Play Anywhere service where you can play games across Xbox and PC with saves.

@@Nosidda just seeing this. She can play my games on her Switch. I just have to change which one is the "primary". But the saves have to be transferred manually and Animal Crossing won't transfer at all. It's stuck on whichever Switch it started on. Also, I have five XBO consoles (there's a one minute video on my channel). She can play all of my games. We can even play co-op online at the same time with one digital copy of a game and one Gold account. Game saves are automatically accessed in about a second on Xbox.

I did all this and it was no problem at all. Only thing is physical games are a slight pain as you have to change the cartridge AND the save. But all in all almost identical to the PS4. (PS, you’ll want to do “add user” not “transfer user” on the lite because it will erase all your stuff on your OG switch)

I think I'm just going to do a full transfer when I get my Switch Lite which should move all the games and all the save files on the system over as well as set it as the primary Switch. I'm pretty sure that everyone is being too critical of Nintendo for not allowing easier syncs between two Switch's, because I'm pretty sure Nintendo didn't expect people would want to have the Lite as a secondary Switch. The Lite wasn't meant to be a secondary Switch, it was meant to be an extra option for people who don't already own one, hence why there's tedium to the process of having a Switch Lite as a secondary. Nintendo simply didn't implement more features for doing that, because they didn't think people would want to do that. Really, I can see their mindset. Why buy a Switch Lite if you already own a Switch that does everything the Lite does and more? I'm not saying they shouldn't implement patches to make the process more convenient, I'm just saying I don't think Nintendo saw that demand coming, and therefore didn't prepare for it.

Shout out to ghostrobo for workaround. Just deregister a switch when you take the other one out. Connect the travel switch to internet and that’s it. Think you just start a game on the deregistered switch and it’s back. Outstanding !

I think there's some kind of workaround because it only checks that you're not playing on the primary system (via internet connection) when you START playing the game on the secondary console. Then you can play for 3 hours, but you can't change game in that time. This is what they said in a video so I could be wrong.

@@pioneerrider1 That's how DRM works. When you buy a digital game, it's tied to the account that purchased it, and it only acts as one license. Meaning only one person can play it at a time, and it has to be through that account, since the license is exclusive only to that account. If you want the license on a different account, you need to purchase a new license, aka buy the game again. If you share your account with someone else, you can't sign in without kicking them out, since it's a personal account, and a personal account can only be used by one person at a time. This DRM isn't exclusive to Nintendo, everyone aside from GOG does it this way. PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Origin, Epic Games Store, all of them do it this way. And people wonder why there's still a crowd who prefer physical games instead of digital games? 🤔 To anyone who has gone all digital, and wonder why there's still people who want physical games, now you know why. Welcome to the digital future. That's not to say digital is bad, but you can see now that there are clear downsides to digital when compared to physical. In short, if you're buying a game that you think will probably be played on more than just one console, whether it be Switch, PS4, or whatever, do yourself a favor and buy a physical copy. It really is easier that way.

In the physical world you can still only play one game between two consoles you still have to buy an second game disc .

You can’t play ANY digital game on the primary switch or it will kick the person off of the game the secondary is playing even if they aren’t playing the same game as you. With physical you can at least play separate games. With digital only one person can play their console at a time unless they turn off WiFi.

Just use the switch lite for lower power games like indie titles and use the primary switch tor titles like breath of the wild

Man I just backed up my save data for Link's Awakening on my OG switch and started up Link's Awakening on my switch lite and it wiped my 2nd save file playthrough and I just beat the 2nd and third dungeons lol welp I ain't backing up no more they can stay separate

I really wish I could do that but I'm pretty sure that the games I play (Animal Crossing and Pokemon) can't be synced between systems. But maybe they can since I've never seen anyone doing videos like that address this problem.

I’ve only purchased digital copies of my games. But I want to play my game on the go to without having to change the primary. I also don’t want to lose my data from game. So I was wondering if you buy a physical copy of a game but have a digital copy of it already can those two combine and have your digital copy save transfer over to the physical copy of a game?

I wish, if you had Switch online, your save files could be used on another Switch. I have a friend who has her own Switch, but also has a profile on my Switch. It would be awesome if you could have your Nintendo ID linked on both, and saves on both.

on big switch go to ur eshop settings go down until u see primary console and deregister it. go do same 9n the lite but this time register it. so u can take ur lite anywhere without wifi big switch need wifi

The whole purpose of the Nintendo Switch was to play it on your TV and just grab it and take it with you where ever you go.. Without transfer. Without online check up. I understand that the Lite might look appealing, but if you want to play the Switch on your TV AND on the go, then just..use the original Switch! It is it's purpose. And the Lite is still huge. It's not like it's such a huge difference.

Switch games always save data on the console (unlike the DS systems which often saved data to the cartridge). So you will need to transfer saves with the cloud or other methods.
