I left because my clan died. I still remember logging off without knowing it was the last time. I walked around our yavin stronghold. Man the work we put in. I remember when we finally unlocked the last room. I was used to login back on into the stronghold, id taken time off for school and work. When i spawned on the fleet i knew something was wrong. The key ring was empty, I didnt see any of my friends come on for weeks. Until one day the leader hit me up on discord and told me what happened. seemed like everyone just found other things to do all around the same time. Not that we didnt like the game anymore but that there was less time. For me less time AND money. When i did finally have time it was heart breaking to log on. I didnt have the enrfy to try and find myself into a new community. This was all before Stars Wars was rebooted as well. With the new trilogy, and battlefront being remade i was super happy for star wars again but i never came back to TOR, after all, i had battlefront now. Years pass and battlefront 2 comes out. I hated it. I was turned off to star wars again esp since second movie let me down. More time passes as i was lucky enough to get early access to galaxies edge and boy i felt like a kid again. Like i was discovering Star Wars again for the first time. But still not enough to come back to TOR. Then mandalorian came out, reminded me of my Hunter. Almost same color scheme too. I actually still have not watched it, i should get on that. But now during this pandemic, Im still working thankfully but have way more time. I thought maybe ill start a new hobby. I chose Mechanical keyboards, and ive ended up making a bounty hunter themed one. At the same time i found my old 12 button MMO mouse. AH yes i could feel it, lets play some TOR on my new keyboard with my ole mouse. Now its re downloaded and im excited to learn how to tank again, and get all my rotations down. Anyways if you read this far thanks for hearing me out. maybe ill find another guild to call home, or maybe ill solo and explore this new expansion. Im glad this video exist and I am definitely hyped to get started

@@shadowofnoc5760 there is a difference between classes and roles. And, no not every mmo is like swtor. swtor tried to emulate wow. In fact they tried so much so that they even had a swtoresqe wowhead when the game launched. But, they failed to make the classes dynamic like they have been in wow. I haven't played wow recently, but one of the things that made wow so good was the need for each class because they all brought something different. Say for instance, shamans brought a knock-back - of which very few classes had. But in swtor, every class has a knock-back. Also, not every class had an interrupt in wow, but in swtor every class has an interrupt - even the healers. Shamans are the only class where the healers have an interrupt. See? Not so homogeneous which makes the experience more unique and fun.

I started playing back before 2.0, the Makeb expansion. I remember just after 2.0, open world pvp skyrocketed because for the first time, players were actually significantly stronger than the base guard npcs. It was possible for a small band of players to tank and spank guard mobs while other teams would assault various bases. I played on Jung Ma, a now gone server I believe. It was a hell of a time for open world pvp. Battles would go for hours and hours before players would get burned out for the day. One memorable day, I remember the Imperial players launched a planet wide assault on Tatooine, capturing nearly all the Republic bases save Dreviad. It was a hell of a day, trying to hold that last position before the Imp players threw us out of the shared areas of the planet. Our Republic counter assault was one hell of a time too. We absolutely ravaged the Imp side of the map after some players managed to rally large amounts of pub troopers on the fleet, organize them, and counter-attack. These massive player battles were what really made me love the game and they normally got started because a ganker or two was camping lowbie players. I stopped playing the game after changes were made to the game that essentially lead to the die-off of those large battles. The newer war zones just didn't replicate the chaotic atmosphere or the scale that those spontaneous open world battles had. I'll never forget how I logged into the game and loaded into Thorazan on tat one day to see a massive wave of red name tags pouring down the hill to wreck us.

Should try and get them to bring it back. Those kinds of things really bring an mmo's world to life. Even though I'm not the biggest pvp'er that'd be fun to watch!
@mcsmedia80814 жыл бұрын
@@iResonate Unfortunately, it's probably gone for good. The devs took so many measures to protect lowbie toons on worlds shared between both factions to eliminate the possibility of high lvl players taking advantage of their max lvl status to camp lower lvl players that it's essentially impossible for a player from one faction to engage a player from the opposing faction without having said player's express permission, usually via a request-duel mechanic.They basically slowly patched the open world pvp aspect out of the game over time. At one point they went so far as to add a universal buff/debuff to all non-max lvl quest/daily instances in the open world making it so that a lvl 20 player could basically hunt down and demolish a max-lvl, full ranked pvp-geared player. That was about when I really lost my motivation to play. Edit: last time I logged in, the devs eliminated the various pve and pvp servers and made all the servers pve by default, with an optional, separate, pvp instance that players could optionally load into. Go figure, everyone just sat on the default pve instance and attacking another player's toon without express consent was an offense that could result in a ban/suspension. That was back when the Eternal Throne story expansion launched. Never went back to the game. For me, it lost something special when walking though the pub quest areas on Nar Shaddaa no longer involved the risk of being attacked by cloaked imperial assassins and agents.

That wasn't the only decision that contributed to open world pvp dying, but that was definitely the final nail in the coffin. The time period right after 2.0 launched was the hey day for open world pvp. Players were higher in level than base guards for the first time and large guilds from both factions were constantly launching large scale invasions; real invasions, not the guild ship stuff. I was on Jung Ma at the time playing as a pub and there was always several battles going across the server. One of the more exciting days was when the Imps invaded the entire Tatooine map and took almost every pub base. That was one hell of a time to be playing the game on a pvp server. Then changes started to be made; like lvling up the base guards, open world lvl syncing, etc. Not bad changes in their own right, but the ganking and griefing that lead to these large battles went away and eventually there was no reason for max lvl players to patrol open world maps to defend lowbies from max lvls. Entire guilds were built around this aspect of the game, it was an entire style of game play, and it all went away when the ganking and the griefing stopped and max lvl players lost the ability to rampage shared lowbie worlds. Then they made open world pvp a separate instance and anything that was left of the old open world pvp that was on life support basically died. Last time I logged in, almost everyone was on the pve instance on almost every world. That's when I quit the game. My play style was built around patrolling the open world on planets like Tatooine to protect pub lowbies from max lvl imps and obviously harass imps if I found any. All went away. Great video. I was a Beta tester and left about a year after launch for various reasons with multiple characters none of which are past level 35. A lot of points you hit on sounds like it might be worth trying out again. Thanks a lot.

Loved it since Launch. The cut scenes and the voice acting is amazing. No other game comes close in these regards. Best single player MMO ever! And Swtor has the wonderful voice of Swtorista to guide us along our way. It's a win all around!

I rejoined the game about two years ago. Since then, I have earned Legacy status by running through all the story lines of all classes. I am currently running them all through Eternal Empire; one toon left to bring through Chapter VII, then I start bringing them all through Chapter VIII. It's a grind, but the music is awesome, and so is the story.

sad part about the "new" swtor u're leveling so frickin fast that u do not have to do any sidequests in order to continue with the main story. I think that's super sad since a lot of the sidequests/planet arcs are pretty cool but most people won't play them

Why bother adding in side quest content of you make it too easy to level. What did a bunch of 10 year olds complain? Who's the target audience lol.

Thanks for this video! (And the rest of the ones on your channel). A friend of mine is a huge star wars fan but hadn't played swtor in forever, having quit for personal reasons. And I'd initially stopped playing before even meeting her due to general frustrations. (I'm fairly certain I died in a heroic zone that was forever far away from the respawn, without owning a mount, and was too pouty to run back, but too stubborn to give up on the quest, so I just logged out and.... never came back to the game.) We came back a week ago cause she wouldn't stop talking about how much she loved the mandalorian, and I normally play final fantasy 14, but its having a lull for the next few months. Your videos have saved me so much time and confusion when she asks me how something in the game works and I sit there like. "Well. Um. According to this outdated wiki last updated 4 years ago, it might work like this. But this guy on the forums has a theory from 2012." I've just directly linked her a couple of your general videos at this point since she's a pure f2p and I"m a preferred because I apparently subbed for the hk-55 event a few years ago. Either way thanks again for having such a varied and useful channel for people getting back into the game!

Same! The restrictions are ridiculous. Reduced exp, can't even send credits, can't equip gear, can't hide head slot or unify gear color, and the list goes on. And I'm a preferred player.

@sliimcracker4 жыл бұрын
iResonate late reply but i feel the restrictions are inconvenient at best. Just about any mmorpg you play will have some sort of system that’s going to have you pay either a subscription or purchasing the base game. In my opinion, swtor has one of the best subscription models I’ve seen from any mmorpg

I loved the story in this game (stopped playeing a couple of years ago) but one thing that keeps me from coming back, probably ever again, is the combat. I despise the rotation mechanics. On my jedi tank, it felt like doing mental math, having like 8 rotations and doing the first like three times to then change to the 4th for one time, to 7th for two rotations, to 2nd for three and so on. If the combat was different, I'd get back without second thoughts, but as it is, I'm staying on swg. Which sucks because I'm missing all the great stories.

I've been playing since launch. I love this game. It's been years since I was in a raid group but I'm still enjoying the stories and leveling my alts. Biggest thing I would like to see is a vendor where we could reroll companion convos. Too many times I've hit escape because I don't want that option but the game won't allow it to abort the convo so I end up stuck with a bad option. I mean, as long as they're not dead or sent away, I don't see the problem of having a vendor and paying credits or cartel coins to get the desired outcome. :)
@fixt1004 жыл бұрын
honestly tho would it mean as much if it meant nothing at all?? if you could reroll until you get the desired outcome then the d3esired outcome would be common and not desired nearly as much...

just to reassure some people, EA backed off heavily to let bioware do their stuff, as opposed to when the game released. and we can see the creative potential of its developpers. Still owned by EA , i know , but i barely see them . Yes there is a cartel market (online) shop , but tbh , its not as bad as it was before . and as a sub, you receive 500 cartel coins per month +100 bonus if you add a security key to your account , plus another one if you give/receive a friend referral. it is not bad. the game also rewards you with a low amount too when you do some achievement in game .
