I pirate MANY of the games I own. In fact, and this is funny to me, a good 10+ years back I backed an indie Dreamcast release and due to some behind the scenes reasons (it was not the deal beforehand) the developer's representative was talking about putting the backers in the manual. Told him plain and simple that people WOULD pirate the game so they should put us in the credits instead. The game has since been ported over and over and I pirated it myself for the PC the other day. 😛 Just own a Lite currently but I have proper PC screens. I'm not going to be forced to play shmups on the Lite when I can play them on PC in TATE; ESPECIALLY when I own the titles (sometimes for multiple systems like I do with Don- and Dodonpachi/DOJ/Mushihimesama etc). Forget that. I also pirate instead of playing demos (that I sometimes can't find). Not going to buy blindly. I did that as a child; that's how I ended up with The Crow for the Sega Saturn...

@@janzibansi9218 This is not akin to that, this is about making a new cartridge similar to the previous device's cartridges that will only fit in the newgen device so that players can play both lastgen and newgen games on the newgen console (The 3ds cartridge has a little extra piece on the side that makes it impossible to fit in the DS's slot, whereas DS cartridges fit easily in the 3ds.) GB/GBC cartridges not fitting in the DS is the opposite situation, where by design Nintendo cut backwards compatibility with those two on the new console, only allowing GBA.
@Elzilcho878 ай бұрын
I was personally worried about that since Nintendo was quietly talking about not even having a cartridge slot in the Switch 2 and all future consoles. If the MIG team could've just waited for the Switch 2 to get released we would've been able to not only get the Switch 2 with the normal cartridge slot for backwards compatibility, but with the ability to use this cartridge slot hack on it. They just needed to be patient and we all could've benefited, but knowing Nintendo they’ll do everything in their power to put a stop to this by changing the Switch 2, even going as far as taking out the cartridge slot completely. They’re petty enough to do it, it's Nintendo we’re talking about after all.

@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI The point is this is bad timing. The Switch is still being actively patched and is still Nintendo's current flagship product. It's too high profile and there is a good chance Nintendo will patch it into not working. Not to mention there's still way too much chance of Nintendo taking legal action. The best strategy is to save all hacks, jailbreaks, and workarounds for a console until it hits end of life. The nature of the product and its high profile means it likely WON'T be a useful tool in a few years as Nintendo starts to wrap up patching the Switch. EDIT: A similar thing happened with the 3DS. There was way too much dicking around and openly advertising the capabilities of the flashcarts being sold. Nintendo eventually locked down and knocked out a good chunk of the older flashcarts and hack methods unless you can downgrade your console.

This device looks awesome. I'd be interested in picking one up along with a used Switch Lite for a spare just for traveling or something. Also, score one for preservation since too many cartridges require online day 1 downloads. My concern is the rumored Switch 2 hardware isn't finalized yet, and this device could cause Nintendo to eliminate physical Switch cartridge backwards compatibility as a precaution.

@Matanumi8 ай бұрын
Flashcarts are ONLY EVER used for piracy now.
@jazuqua8 ай бұрын
Nintendo can easily patch any hardware exploits, they only chose not to with the 3DS line because it probably wasn't worth it with the Switch selling so well. Unless the Switch 2 releases soon, Nintendo is just going to release new hardware to fix said exploits. Also the homebrew community has their own exploits already, if you want you can use an RCM exploit to boot custom firmware on unpatched Switches to run homebrew.
@yurab18348 ай бұрын
@@jazuqua but that's the point - it only works on unpatched Switches, so anything that's been produced in the last... 4 or so years is out of the question. That's the majority of Switch units just being unviable, unless the user wants to play around with microsoldering. Once Nintendo moves onto the next console, we could see more exploits cropping up - Nintendo wouldn't be fixing the old consoles with new hardware revisions, and even software updates would dry up eventually. I'm hoping that we see a repeat of what happened to the 3DS.

One interesting thing that was possible for the Sky3DS cards was to have your own header set up for all games you play online. So, I did the following thing: I used one of my singleplayer 3DS games (I think it was Majoras Mask 3D). I grabbed the unique header from the game and set it as my unique header. Since even offline Games have unique headers even if I were to sell it at some point (I won't) I still will always be the ONLY person with that header online - unless someone were to take my cartridge and grab the header without my knowledge. If anything like that is possible on the Switch, it will be easy sailing - I literally played dozens of online 3DS games and my 3DS is still 100% functional and not banned.

Any sympathies I might have had for Nintendo's stance on these peripherals melted away years ago. Between them lobbying to make console modding illegal in japan, basically using legality to end the DS capture cards, how ungodly impossible to repair 3DS's are, and their latest movement making _the knock off modchip_ cost $500 versus the $60 or so the genuine SX chip was, I'm of the opinion that pirating Nintendo is not only ethical, but morally correct. Their stalwart head in the sand attitude about preservation or even respecting the fans with how they made several fan games instant ban material on Twitch, has me more than fed up with their abuse of the law and their tantrums in court.

@@Kakeen Regarding the _New 3ds_ (non-XL) model, even finding parts for it are just impossible. Mine has several issues that I can't even begin to start with, because nobody has parts available for it. Not least of which, the shell needing to be replaced, and the B button and the circle nub not having the range it should. I tried to solve this with picking up a _New 3DS XL_ finally since parts were more readily available on ebay. The unit I did get, had a rather mangled exterior (paint was flaking) and the digitizer was having issues with touch along the top left. The hinge design on the 3DS systems was meant to solve the constant fracture cracks that the DS/lite/i all developed; but it is goddang horrendous to try and actually extract to indeed transfer the guts safely out of one shell and into the other. The layers of nested PCB's and ribbon cables, and the utter inability to remove and replace the main circle pad is insane. I also had a normal 3DS and 3DS XL; the normal 3ds won't _not_ do 3D on the top screen at all times, and I was never able to take apart the xl to do a shell swap without critical cables getting torn along the way, either. Even replacing the shells of the Nintendo Switch Joycons was dramatically easier and safer to do.

The galactic empire, galactic federation always win. Nintendo will win. There's nothing to learn here. @@NickNieves112I see your point, but I think you're wrong in this case. Yes, casuals will still waste money paying for a music streaming service. As someone who's worked on CFW and in the homebrew scene for Switch since launch, the amount of unaware people commenting about the cart without understanding the almost 100% ban rate is mind boggling. People just don't understand that you can't just go download Switch roms and play them like normal. Someone even said that they'll just remove the cert and that "Nintendo will have no way of knowing"... someone even said "Nintendo will just think we're playing a used copy!"... They think Nintendo is braindead. If you value your Switch NOT being banned, don't buy the MIG Switch. Also, Gary may be the biggest idiot of all time if he's involved (which he almost certainly is IMO). I highly doubt there's a group of people "framing him" or whatever he's trying to say is happening. He spent 16 months in prison, and owes Nintendo like, what, $15,000,000?
