I have been collecting scarves since I was in Europe at age 12! At 62 I have a lovely collection. Nothing wrong with the classics worn in classic ways.

As a knitter, I live for wool scarf season! I only wear my own knits and they are my creative statement piece. I recently bought a large leather scarf cuff that holds the scarves in place and doubles as a cuff for the wrist.

Hmmmm ... sometimes I put on my ladylike heels, fancy bag and a classic scarf and sure I look my age, but I look classy. Sometimes I don't need to look young. Just sayin'

I love scarves - I have a long neck and get cold easily. I find that I wear my more casual cotton or cashmere/silk blends as opposed to large square classic silk scarves. Your tips and insights were so helpful. Thank you!

After wearing scarves successfully on my bald head when undergoing chemo, I have a very hard time even looking at the one or two gorgeous silk ones I kept. It’s been almost 18 years but still…I do wear a red alpaca scarf in winter for warmth. I tried on an infinity scarf when they were in style and felt like it added 15 pounds to my small frame. Hard pass.

The scarves tied through the hair / plaits are very much influenced by historical hair fashion! If I had hair I would definitely do this! I love scarves. I wear them for warmth, as an accessory etc. I have started to play with different size scarves and trying to style them differently. Thanks for great video Nada!

I'm so fond of scarves! and I especially love the thin patterned neck scarves peeking from behind the shirt collar, with a couple of the top buttons undone! it instantly elevates a simple shirt with jeans or trousers (the colours matching to the scarf). My hair's too short to wear a scarf as a tie but I always loved it on fellow ladies with longer hair ❤ Such a versatile and underappreciated item!

Great video! I love vintage brooches and they can be worn on or beside vintage scarves, or in the middle of the neck where a pendant would be. A particularly beautiful or fun brooch is a joy, blings up the wardrobe and a talking point. Scarf clips too - great for holding a scarf in place without tying, and you can easily hide them in the folds of the scarf if you don't like the design or it clashes. I collect vintage Norwegian silver enamel brooches, interesting glass cabachon brooches and fun old plastic brooches.

Hi there!! I love a good scarf and I really love a beautiful vintage looking brooch, not necessarily together but separately……I just love that!! I absolutely hate the headscarf look, I think that Haley Bieber look is just plain hideous (sorry) I wore a lot of very pretty and cool head scarves while undergoing chemo and I think they can look very fashionable and cool, just not tied under the chin like my Nan did lol. We wear a lot of scarves during the severe cold winter weather in Canada and I think it’s more for warmth than fashion. Thank you for sharing your videos with us, I always enjoy watching and listening Nada so have a great rest of the week!! 💕 Tina 💕

I used to love scarves because of print design. I collect them in all sizes shapes and material. I especially liked tying a small square silk scarf around my neck like a choker. I stopped loving scarves since menopause. It’s been 10+ years and I haven’t gone back. My issue with wearing scarves is that I have a short neck, thicker shoulders and upper arms, and a roundish face. Adding volume under my face around my shoulders is not flattering. I still use cowl neck like infinity knit mufflers in really cold days. But SoCal never gets really cold. Instead of scarf, I wear earrings and necklace. They still bring focus to my face and neck but they won’t make me look bulky or too heavy. I use my small square silk scarves to wrap around handbag handle or tie on the side of handbag, especially if I wear solid color clothing not prints.

Several months ago I realised that younger people don't really wear scarves, so they are very aging. I have a couple of cashmere scarves which I will wear when it's cold but otherwise I will be steering clear.

Interesting video that explains why I have trouble with classic scarves, especially the fussy stuff. Like another person who commented, I live in the north and wear scarves for warmth and a little color. Nothing beats cashmere around your neck on a cold winter day.

Yes! Nada you nailed the scarf problems I’ve had which means I only wear them in the coldest part of winter. I tried them back in the 80’s and 90’s - I saw a photo of myself at 25 wearing a scarf and that proved I should tread carefully. I looked like my grandma! 😂😮

Brilliant video and content, thank you Nada. But you forgot to feature long skinny scarves Kate Moss style, very simple and chic. I wear long scarves down my front to hide my belly + an open blazer (I'm slim but always have a stick-out belly). I knot neck ties at the front or slightly to the side for a natural, effortless look. I also like a skinny glittery scarf in silver, gold, black sequins etc. to brighten up a very simple, neutral outfit. I choose original prints, from the classic bandana print to geometric patterns to vintage cartoon characters (Mickey Mouse, Babar the Elephant, etc.) to meaningful quirky images of cats and other animals that are meaningful to me, e.g. black cat, rabbits.

Excellent topic! I hadn't ever considered the points you made and I am eager to experiment. I have a large collection of scarves I almost never wear because I don't want to look and feel fussy, despite the fact that I love the idea of adding color, texture and warmth in winter. Btw, I use your mantra whenever shopping or perusing my closet, always asking myself whether an item is cute or "not cute". ;-)

Scarves have saved many a white collared clothing item for me. Tinted sunscreen, foundation or makeup up in general. BUT it is worn against the clothing item and not against my neck. The scarf is almost hidden. Hope this make sense…..

I never wear scarves, except woolie-types on freezing cold snowy windy days. I never liked them because I can't stand fussiness, and scarves are fussy for me. I don't like styling them or knotting them. My upper torso is short and I am busty, so there's also that. And yet, ever since I hit middle age, people keep giving them to me as gifts. I have a drawer full of never-worn Hermes and Ferragamo which I will likely consign. The one thing in particular I cannot bear -- and apologies to you readers who wear this look well -- is that scarves and a crew neck sweater seem to become a uniform for us older women. I look around restaurants at brunch or lunch and it's a sea of women in (mostly) neutral coloured sweaters and some sort of scarf up top. That way of dressing is to me, while understandably effortless and easy, is automatically aging.

Love this vid! But as many commenters have said, those of us who live in colder climates need them in the winter to stay warm (would probably never ever wear if lived in Florida) So the question is, how would a petite gal with a large bust keep neck and upper chest warm in winter? Neither scarves nor turtleneck are recommended for this body type. (Already wearing thin thermal under blouse) any other ideas? Thank you!
@NadaManleyАй бұрын
@@annade2094 good question! I definitely wore those in colder climates as I lived in Chicago and Boston. Definitely wear the cozy scarves. I think they should just be scaled down a little to make them more proportional for us petites. I absolutely love them and will continue to wear them whenever I can. I just won’t make them huge. 🤣
