Great presentation! I have a Mark 1* that is shaved. And it's ex-Royal Navy like yours!!! I could say "unfortunately" with regards to the shave, which is true from a collector's standpoint, but from the shooter's side, it's a benefit if you handload because you have some flexibilty on less expensive components. I prefer the .45 Auto Rim over the ACP as a case because you can have that "brass cascade" when you eject. Plus I have .45 AR speed loaders, negating the often-cited benefit of the full or half moon clips. Since .45 AR brass is relatively common (more common and less expensive than Webley Mark II brass) it's become my go-to (of course I have lots of ACP brass if needed ( : < ). The .45 AR case is a little smaller in diameter to start than the Webley case but they fireform in the cylinder the first time you shoot and if you reload them using Webley dies, you retain that diameter (for the most part) and subsequently don't work the brass that hard. Lots of bullet choices but IMO it shoots best with a .454 dia. bullet close to the original 265 grain weight. I load to stay around 650 fps (will naturally be a little higher with the 6-inch barrels). The later Webleys (Mark 4 and up) can take a little more but since the Mark 1s were originally black powder (most reproofed for smokeless powder by the British military around 1900), they are more fragile.
