I love T.Rex. I've been a massive fan of Marc Bolan for many years now and have a lot of his music. This is an awesome box set of recordings from a year when Marc Bolan was at his peak. I ordered my copy on the first day it was released and it didn't disappoint. The coloured vinyls look so cool too. This is definitely a must have for the collection if you love Marc Bolan's music.

There's one point missed here by some who discredit the sale of rehashed new reases, but it all helps keep the name Marc Bolan and name T.REX "alive"! Then independent thinkers and quirky folks may become fans of Tyrannosaurus Rex & T.REX. It keeps the names current and new listeners may get introduced and old fans reintroduced! Why does that matter? Well, because they too may eventually enjoy a lifetime of this great music just as I have. Oh man! Those delicious tracks she mentions were so good, the best, and I love them to this day I listen to T.REX every single week as I just love those old songs so much, there's so much in them; Cadillac, Baby Strange, Jitterbug Love, Raw-Ramp, Monolith, Get it on, Rock On, her name-sake - Telegram Sam, so many more, and earlier; Blessed Wild Apple Girl, Summer Deep, Jewel, by The Light of the Magical Moon, Find A Little Wood, (there's a duple entendre if even I've heard one) 😅 so many strong albums and songs. I'm so pleased Marc Bolan was entered into the hall of Music Fame! That's so deserving but Not everything is great, his performance style in most video contains way too much self appreciation, self awareness, over-acting, rather than saying "I'm a rock star, watch if you like and btw - I appreciate you", he was always acted like he was saying; "look what I can do!" And at the end of his career, all that effeminate stuff got so out of hand and he was so overly posey. Early shots and videos of him make him look so much better but not in the movie. We had to remember to make allowances for the zeitgeist of the time, androgyny, with Bowie too and Mick - Rolling Stones, and Rod Stewart, a feather boer wasn't it? Worn around the neck. That's fame and fame equals money and they're all, all about the money and why not, almost every other business is, so why *not* show-business! That novoe referred to with Ringo Starr in it was called Born to Boogie, it was a product to sell to teenyboppers at the local cinemas, Ringo fimed it.and was in it along with Mickey Finn and others folks grotesquly stuffing their faces with jam fruit etc at a banquet picnic out doors in the English countryside, on a field, in the summer. Theres nothing like the vibe of the British countryside in the summer, especially if your high on a dopamine rush from just being with someone you enjoy, being young and happy, but mindfull of others property.

Thanks for this TS, you are clearly passionate about music and very eloquent in your presentation. You are right regarding the slider album, not the best, sounds slightly flat and dry with a hint of graininess in the upper mids, in fact it sounds like an MP3 file sent down the line rather than the warm, detailed, analogue sound it should be. Demon records release some excellent discs but they do appear to have issues with their remastering from time to time, similar issues with the T.REX gold compilation a couple of years ago. The Slider 40th anniversary box set on the same label was superior in many ways, firstly the album was the Tony Visconti 2012 remaster which is far superior to the one you reviewed, the 2012 box set from memory also included 3 singles in their original customised T.REX sleeve, CDs of the album and demos, outtakes etc, 12" hardback book, T.REX carrier bag, photographs, rosette and a poster. My parents bought me this album as a Christmas pressy in 1972 when I was 15, I still have it and it still sounds great, keep up the good work TS, I enjoyed listening to your review.

Been a fan from just before the 1970 single Ride A White Swan. Got info him after listening to the Tyrannosaurus Rex album, A Beard Of Stars. I was a huge fan right up to the Single Metal Guru 72 and the Slider Album 72. I sadly got out of T.rex for the one and only, Mr David Bowie. For me, the T.rex thing just all got a little too silly. That said, I did get back into Marc Bolan in 1977, after seeing T.rex live in Manchester during the Dandy in the underworld tour. Absolutely fantastic show. I now realise from Albums after the Slider, that he was way ahead of his time. I can also say that David got credited for stuff Marc was doing before him. It is so fantastic that fans from the US are into T.rex and hear you give credit to Marc Bolan. 1972 sure was a fine year for real music!!

They're the best! However, I had a friend who had many T.REX if not all the main released albums at the time and I couldn't afford them so he let me record them all on cassette tape right through from Marc's Tyrannosaurus Rex times without electric guitar. Some of those tracks are haunting and I still play them and love them. Words to describe them... ...A rich tapestry of musical historic vibe honed into a unique sound and theme. Choosing one word - always tough but definitely it would have to me... ....Intimate! Remarkably intimate. Warm, woody, dark, ethereal edgy yet inviting spooky yet safe because you're on the ride with him through the songs. Marc was unique and there seems through all the shallowness of celebrity there was an original element of mystery about him, he would say songs just come to him it's easy for him, well until you've listened to all that worthy of a listen from an artist, you don't really know them, so appraising Marc on only his later work is not ideal even though his best three albums came out then. His acoustic work as Tyrannosaurus Rex was also brilliant. As a musician composer, singer, writer, he was a shining star, I still love him. T.REX music is in my blood and the friend who introduced me seemed to let it go! But then, he let me go, too! Maybe because I still liked T.REX! 😂😅😊 However, if so, then that was a trade-off I should probably be very content with. Anyway, it never hurts to feel you know someone's real name - "Telegram Samantha"? I'm so pleased that of all the artists and their vinyl you have on the walls around you, T.REX has a special place in your heart as it does for me. I am vindicated for my fanship of the 'prancing pixie'. Sam, I love, and you may too, Mustang Ford, Black and White Incident, etc then later; Great Horse, A Day Laye, Diamond Meadows, oh and my goodness Pilgrims of Summer! Pavilions of Sun, so many others from that acoustic period all precious gems! later too gave us true gold like Tenement Lady and Broken Hearted Blues, later still Venus Loon and Think Zinc. Maybe you're only into the electric period. That's cool too, whatever workz. It's funny but the more access we now have to music and music videos, the more I find I'm appreciating songs I've heard all my life but not heard so clearly before, and with an ever growing understanding of music and it's nuances (as it's a language when deeply complex and composed well), the more I'm getting out of older music, right now it's like - I never quite got the 50's "pop" as it was just too far back for some younger than I the acoustic T.REX may be seen the same way, but we should never shut ourselves off from.musoc based on that alone, it's good to expose yourself to a little.of what you don't really like, it broadens the appreciation range in time. Watching the Wanderer by Dion in Black & White, on KZbin, is a wild experience and what an expert performer he was, I didn't even know the name of the singer until last month. The subtle way he harmonises some intermediate sounds with the backing singers and uses those sounds to join his words creates a certain extra musical rhythm, an effect actually, one that melds with the music, he has such an ear for music to be doing that, maybe I do and that's why I hear it, get it, and love it, it's genius. Neat every word is extended, or has a simply "a" after it, it's almost like an early precursor to Michael Jackson adding his own style of emotional flourishes like, eee hee, ooo, ah, da, and owe all over the place in particular songs. I had no idea The Wanderer was so good. The rolling rhythm is killer, the words are great too, the subject matter leaves a lot to be desired in this politically correct, and rather oddly conservative yet daring at the same time, "bizaroworld" period we're in today. 😌😏🥴

I loved T- Rex, back in the 1970s. He put out good music. Songs like Ride a white Swan, Hot Love, and his last pop hit in 1976 I love to Boogie. He was part of the British Glam rock scene. Get it on was a hit in the USA. I have a couple of cds of his music. A collection of hits, and his album Electric Warrior. He liked Punk rock ,and sadly died in a car accident in 1977. Great work! I had seen a Marc Bolan 1972 out there but only glanced at it casually, as I was more so interested in finally purchasing both "Slider" & "Electric Warrior." I must say... those 2-LPs made me an immediate T-Rex fan, but I've been admittedly stumped in regards to what I'd like to purchase next. This Box-Set might just do the trick. TYRANNOSUARUS REX / T.REX... ...They're the best! However, like everyrhing, how wide a period of Marc's music you aopreciate depends on how wide your musical repetoire extends, how long you've been exposed to music and how wide the variety you've been exposed to, perhaps in the background, by people of various eras and generations. - Every other day, listen to one of two songs you find least offensive from an era you do, and keep that up your whole life, and I bet it would grow your appreciation of music. - I had a friend who had many T.REX if not all the main released albums at the time. I couldn't afford them but he let me record them all on cassette tape right through from Marc's Tyrannosaurus Rex period and a bit before, acoustic guitar. Some of those tracks are haunting and I still play them and love them so much. Words to describe them? - A rich tapestry of musical historic vibe, honed into a unique sound and theme. @ts_vinyl First he was in Pink Fairies, then John's Children, or is that reverse order? Anyway, after these two he was in Tyrannosaurus Rex which was all acoustic guitar and percussion, then to Marc the switch to Electric for the purpose of keeping up with the times he dumped the airy fairy hippy folk vibe and donned glam clothes creating or at least running with and taking charge of Glam Rock followed my Bowie, Sweet especially and many others. Then with wife driving a little British Leyland Mini Clubman, he hit a now infamous tree and went through the windscreen/windshield. No more music no more daddy for son; Rolan Bolan, no more hubby and security for Gloria and family. Very very sad day for all. I could hardly believe it. I needed to share my feelings with my parents but felt silly to do so but ai did a bit and they were surprisingly understanding, no big fuss, just matter of fact. I cried a little in private. That's how intimate pop.music can be to young people. Music is so emotionally powerful isn't it?

I dont know if you still listen to CDs, but there is an 8 disc series called "T.Rex unchained" which has some great unreleased material from 70 to 77. Home demos and unreleased studio recordings. Unfortunately you have to buy all the discs to get about an album and a half of great rare bolan material. There is a best of the unchained series CD that was put out but they missed out on a lot of the great stuff on it so I would not recommend it. It would be best to seek out the best in the individual C d's from the series.. I believe they released a box set if them all on vinyl but kind of rare now and pricey.

My pet peeve is not reissuing albums with their original cover art. A bummer The Slider doesn't sound so great.

If producers don't care what quality they're dishing out yet still expect fans to jump on the product, it's a bl@#&y insult! Why should we buy them! I think we should boycot that one!

I can't understand why Visconty signed a picture of Marc Bolan... I know he's the producer of the album but he ain't Marc^

Visconti and Marc are inseparable when discussing T Rex’s most loved output. Those records sounded so wonderful due to Visconti’s input to the process. For example the string arrangements, Visconti!
@lucalone2 жыл бұрын
@@redmaple2088 no doubt about it that Visconti is great producer but why did he signed a Pic of Marc and not of himself??? Or a picture of him with Marc??? Still that makes no sense to me.

Been a Bolan fan for nearly 50 years, and I'm sick of the reissue's coming out, nothing new on this, born to boogie sound tracks again. They could have spent some money tidying up T.Rex gig from Newcastle in 72, and I think Manchester, but, that would cut their profit margins.

Saw T. Rex at the Hollywood Paladium in '72. Played w/the Dooby Bros. Not sure who came up w/these bills but T. Rex n Marc blew them away! Saw them again in about '76 or '77 at Long Beach Auditorium w/Gloria on Keyboards. It was for Don Kershner's Rock Concert's on TV. Think one of last shows here. Can find on You Tube. Thanks for the review. I'd love to get my hands on the acoustic vinyl. Have most originals but don't unusually buy these re issues.

@@brucybabyy7355 Blue Oyster Cult in '74 must have been something see! For an American audience at time they would have been a hard act to follow. Still, I'll bet T. Rex won over some fans. Marc's label or management sure didn't do him any favors picking these tours.

As with anything, if it's worth it to you, then it's worth purchasing. For me, I'd rather spend the $ on other lps, since I don't have or feel a connection with the band or their music. Peace.
