My uncle bought a 2001 ws6 my senior year of high school. He got a DWI in it, lost his license and I got to drive him around and man did he let me drive it like he did, pedal to the metal. I'll never forget my time driving that majestic machine while blasting Pantera/Metallica/Megadeth. Thats another thing about those cars, they had a pretty decent factory sound system. Man this brings back all the memories of whipping donuts and getting side ways.

Monsoon 8 speaker, IIRC. Yeah, light on bass (all cars were back then), but decent stock head unit w/ equalizer. Throw an amp and stealth box in w/ aftermarket head-unit, it'll bump well enough w/o being too heavy or cluttering the trunk area.

Firehawks were the best looking, but I prefer the Formula 350 ( less plastic cladding ) and same engine . Lighter and quicker 👌 my '89 Formula was the last muscle car bodystyle before the big chassis changes, which the following chicken-nosed 1990 debacle has to be ugliest version ever. The 2002 ws6 is hands down the best handling , if not the quickest, and the Hawk version would scream . I got to ride in a brand new one that had a replacement engine done, by the local pontiac dealer , 1st oil change gone wrong ... I will never forget how easy it broke the tires loose at 50mph shifting into 3rd

I've been daily-driving my 2002 since I bought it in 2004. It's hands down my favorite car, but I wouldn't consider it the best ever made. As endearing as I find the interior to be personally, it's late 90's cheap GM plastic. Dash shattered years ago, door panels are cracked, you know, the usual, but damned if I don't love the car. I'd be buried in it if I could. The LS1 with a nice cam and ported 243 heads with a nice stall, she still keeps up with all the new stuff, so that's a good testament to the LS platform.

I had a 95 Z28 t-top in high school and I had so much fun in that car!! Every Friday after school/work washed it, shined it all up, took the t-tops off and went cruising with the windows down and music up. I had the privilege of driving one of these when I was a younger dude working for a detail shop. No one else could drive a manual so I got to run around in the car for a large portion of the day, picking it up a couple hours away, driving it to the shop, dropping it off at the auction after detail, etc. I will say it's difficult to argue the WS6 isn't one of the best cars ever made after you've driven one, especially when it was current. It's one car that's left a lasting impression on me. That thing was a beast and I had a blast spending the day with it.

The General Motors of Canada plant in Ste-Thérèse, Quebec produced the firebird trans ams until it's closure in early 2000's. Here's an interesting story, the gm engine plant in St Catherine's Ontario Canada produced the corvette engine during that period . A couple of engineers that worked there managed to get the vette engine installed into the trans am illegally at the plant Quebec. Some how upper brass found out about it afterwards and seized all the cars from there homes and destroyed all of them and all of them lost there jobs. That would of been the ultimate firebird to have of all time. I know this is true since I knew an engeer that worked there and told me the whole thing and how it went down.

Lol great story..however, isn't that is where the Firehawk was produced, using independent suspension and higher performance parts normally found on the corvette ? So , some employees have been modifying their own cars using 'stock ' aftermarket parts, and they were busted for, what, espionage? Theft or something worse? Rumors that there were several homebuilt TA's cloning the firehawk surrounded that era, bcuz test cars don't always get crushed they get sold and revived... And the part about confiscation raises serious doubts ..

I worked at a Chevrolet dealership in the late 90s early 2000s and when our ordering manager got a Camaro SS he went all the way with the SLP package not just the decals, but all the mechanical modifications they would do for it. By far and away a 6 speed was SS faster than a Corvette from 2000 through 2002.
@mikeross111 Жыл бұрын
Not faster than a 2000 FRC. I owned both a 2000 FRC and 2002 WS6, both 6 speeds. Vette would eat it everyday of the week...

I own an '02 SLP SS. I've had it ten years now. It has 70,000 miles on it and it's a blast. Truly some of the best money I ever spent.
@zztop7306 Жыл бұрын
Well that's just an outright lie lol how is a vehicle hundreds of pounds lighter with the same drive train losing out to a heavier vehicle with the same rear end gear (when both are 6 speeds)? And "by far and away" at that? Lmao lay off the pipe big guy.
@salchristiano6606 Жыл бұрын
@@mikeross111 yes, the vette was faster when set up with a six speed and the “hard top “ package, but most of the vettes making it to the showroom were autos with the sport seat package.
@salchristiano6606 Жыл бұрын
@@zztop7306 most vettes of that era were slushbox autos with the sport seat package. A proper 6 speed slp SS was just better. And unless you were optioning the vette with the “ hard top” option, it was only marginally lighter.

I think I cried a little watching you drop the hammer down on it with Mike Smith in the car because I was so jealous it wasn’t me!!! 🤣 Except when you asked him if he wanted to go for a ride, I would’ve asked if I could’ve driven instead of you Mr. Dennis 😁. It looked like you two were in a church parking lot. I bet God was loving watching that car driven the way it was supposed to be driven. Best car ever made hands down!!! Awesome video!!! 👍🏻

In 2002, my wife and I took a vacation down in Miami to go to the keys. We rented a convertible and when we went out to the lot to get the car, not knowing what we were going to get, there it was a WS6 trans am convertible. Honey, quick get in the car before they change their minds. Headed down to Key West and had a great time in a great car. Thanks.

I remember seeing these new at the car lots when I was a teen. My parents were shopping for a new car and eventually ended up getting a Grand Prix unfortunately to my protest of the T/A These were by far the coolest muscle car on the lot. I think its great how you told the original owner what you were going to do to it once you got it back to your shop and how you would send him pictures. You can tell the man loves this Automobile and babied it. What a Gem and A great Hero! We all thank him for his great service!

Dumb take, people aren't forced to sell. Besides Dennis doesn't show the negotiations (on those occasions when he doesn't give asking price) on camera or mention the price. I don't blame him, I'm just saying. Richard shows both

In 2002 Pontiac was putting the LS6 block in some of these due to a shortage I believe. Check it just in case, might make it worth a little more. Also, WS6 is simply an RPO code, doesn't mean anything other than it having the RAM air hood and a beefier suspension.
