The Mustangs have come a LONG way and really improved, but the sound of those 4.6 and older 5.0 engines is just hard to beat. It's that certain Mustang tone they created even at idle.

8 cylinders, 32 valves, 4 camshafts, with a coil on plug ignition system makes this one of the best engines made by Ford. The lack of complex variable valve timing makes these easier to work on than Coyote engines. The solid axle equipped with the 8.8 housing made it less fragile than the IRS equipped Cobras. Yeah, the new edge Mach 1s, particularly Azure blue examples, hold a special place in my heart.

Last year my son told me he was going to inherit my Mach 1 after I die and he would enjoy it. I don't doubt that's true but I started driving it a lot more, taking it from Utah to Louisiana and back. Comfortable. Reliable. Classic. Yes, it will hold the governor (155) for at least 25 minutes without the slightest drama. If they had at least OFFERED a shaker hood on the new Mach 1 I might have been tempted, but, for all practical purposes, the 2003-2004 Mach 1 is a practical and thoroughly enjoyable car. Although we have a 2017 Chevy SS that fits more people in it and is more modern (including a touch quicker and, allegedly, faster), the 2003 Mach 1 is my "go to" driver because it is, to me, the most enjoyable car I have ever driven, bar none!
@machspeed4204 жыл бұрын

@@Rspsand07 unfortunate man the 03-04 mach1s are really special and rare to see on the road. Especially with that dope shakerhood which is actually functional. You will see alot more cobras than mach1s. And they were just so underrated, the 03-04 termi cobras kinda stole the spotlight. And rightfully so cause they were absurdly quick for their time and is my dreamcar. But it's just something with the style of the machs that will always be my number 1.

Two things that really deserve mentioning. Ford spent MILLIONS perfecting that sound and the sound alone for this car. Secondly, opposed to a SOHC 16v that comes with the 1999-2004 GT, all Mach 1 and Cobra come with the DOHC 32v which attributes that WONDERFUL engine rumble that makes these cars so damn coveted even 20 years later.

I have an 04 Oxford White Mach 1 that is 95% original. The Mach 1 in this video has several modifications including aftermarket wheels, smoked taillights, the black panel between the taillights is not stock, the black panel at the bottom of the rear bumper is not stockm the black Mustang letters in the rear bumper were original body color just to name a few. These are nice mods and am not putting them down, just clarifying not stock looking in various ways.
@briansloat36254 жыл бұрын
Wheels are stock style but are actually aftermarket made by AFS. Stock tire width was 245 on an 8" rim. Also the center cap should be black with a colored tri-bar emblem. Upgraded mine to the AFS 9x17 rims but ditched their center cap and used the stock ones. Oxford White was my second choice but was lucky enough to find an Azure blue one. Car is also lowered. A stock Mach almost looks like a 4x4. Lastly the stock valve covers on an 03 were powder coated gloss black. 04's were bare Aluminum. I am in no way critiquing the car, it is a beautiful car with very tasteful mods, it is just not stock.

Dealer listed the price too low online and snagged her up. Stock version reminded me of the Gt350 when I came back out. But since then mine is procharged, engine rebuilt with forged internals, full exhaust from BBk long tube headers back with exhaust cutouts. I’ll never sell that car. My father has the exact same car. 03 in oxford white & black stripe. I love the car with all my heart and probably the best day of my life was when I got my license and drove it the first time. Didnt even know these are more appreciated these days. But great video man 👍

Haha! I've watched a lot of your reviews, and you're the guy that actually convinced me to buy my 2015 Fiesta ST (which I absolutely love!). But I've had nine Mustangs including three new edges and I get it. Your enthusiasm running through the gears shows how much fun only 300 horsepower can be when it has an absolutely epic exhaust, a slick shifter and not too much weight. I never really appreciated this generation as much as I'm starting to now as I'm getting older. But the Mach 1 really is the sweet spot if you can't quite afford the Cobra. And that shaker hood scoop is just the icing. Great review Raiti!

Beautiful car. I had an '04 40th Anniversary GT Convertible 5 speed in Competition Orange with a black top and black leather interior. Mach 460 sound system. Bought it brand new. To this day I regret selling it. Great video Joe!

The 40th Anniversary package cars didn't come in orange, so I'll ignore that piece, but I also had an orange 04 convertible and it was fun to own and drive.

@@blksnke2 Ummm I think I would know whether or not it was competition orange and a 40th anniversary car. But ok, I guess you told me 🙄 Douchebag
@blksnke23 жыл бұрын
@@ericd1632 the "40th Anniversary appearance package" cars only came in 3 colors and had specific interior and exterior styling cues, orange not being one of those. I apologize for coming off as a douchebag, but I just wish correct information was more readily available, especially regarding special edition Mustangs.

I agree with you. Although imo it helped more than people thought. Ram air is something you can't measure on a dyno you need to be in the real world racing the car to see any benefit. The inlet air temp difference alone would be worth it.

JOEEE I love your Mustang videos. They definitely max out your already high charisma levels! I find it so interesting that we're at a point in automotive technology where the iconic, classic signs of performance (shakers/scoops in this example) are now less efficient than the modern systems that are absent of those signs. This forces automotive engineers and marketers to pick and choose which to add, and which combination of maximum performance, and classic design is perfect.

Being direct, and answering the video's question, Yes! Why? The Shaker Hood. Lucky enough to get my, comp orang '04, while still in high school. Shattered gearing in the oil pump after a mid-12 pass, a seized motor to follow, in went a custom-built cast iron 4.6L short block. Now it's stroked, blowin', and cammed.
