Owned this car for 4 years through uni (although mine was manual), this car was perfect. Dirt cheap to tax, reasonable to insure, decent power and looks smart. Really nippy in town and plenty of power for the motorway. Literally perfect for early drivers who want some power without a GTI badge. I miss mine dearly!

How does it compare to a golf?
@Usman111hussain
@Usman111hussain 2 жыл бұрын
@@king0vdarkness It is smaller than a golf of the same age. Due to the power it will easily keep up with similar specced golfs. I think golfs of this age came with a touch screen infotainment where as the pre facelift polo of this gen did not so that would be a big difference. All depends on if you need the space. If your young and don't need the space - this is perfect. If you have hobbies that require more space or have a couple of kids, then get the golf. The golf is great for everyone that just want a car. This polo Jay is reviewing is for the person that wants something with 'some' power that wont obliterate the bank.

I had one of these for my second car and it was great, I had a manual and from what I’ve read about these before is that the manual is much happier to engage 2 cylinder mode and will kick in almost instantly in gears from 3-6. Mine actually also had heated seats! I was so chuffed! 😁

used to own an UP! and now own a polo blue GT, yes neither car are supreme comfort factories but the step up is significant in the Polo. UP! seats are not supportive and you don't even get steering wheel rake adjustment. UP! GTI sounds fun but Polo BLUEGT will still be slightly quicker.

I owned a 2016 Polo BlueGT for a couple of years. I would have kept it but it developed serious AC issues and I was quoted well over £1000 to fix it, so I decided to get a new car instead. It's a shame as I loved it - a perfect balance of performance and fuel economy. I would regularly average over 50mpg but it could still very much hold it its own on any road. It was great in town and yet, when I took it on a 1000 mile roadtrip around the UK, it was great on the motorway too. Spacious and practical inside to top it all off. I miss it so much!

@interesting Mine is a 2017 facelift which fixed most of the issues on the earlier cars (fuel pump/timing chain) and so far it has been brilliant. From around 2016 onwards there is essentially 2 variants, the Prestige which is focussed toward comfort and the BPS which is engineered to be a more ‘hardcore’ version. The BPS comes as standard with better brakes, bigger wheels, sport seats, an LSD, it also sits 10mm lower and has black exterior trim pieces. The Prestige still handles quite nicely despite the lack of an LSD, and although it’s not as razor sharp as the BPS it does offer a much comfier ride and in my opinion it makes the better ‘daily driver’ having more creature comforts such as a panoramic roof, half leather heated seats, cruise control and Sat Nav. Both are great cars, just make sure the service intervals have been kept up to date and the 1.6t engine does drink a little oil, although that is perfectly normal be prepared to top it up between services.

I had the current Seat Ibiza 1.0TSI (115BHP/200nm) w DSG, adaptive dampers, 215/45 tyres and current small car MQB platform for 2 years. It was slow beyond 40 MPH, but the comfort was ace (for a small car) and it would achieve over 30mpg+ in any situation short of gridlock (it was amazing how hard i could push and still get 30mpg over trip distance). cheap feeling but solidly built interior, enough tech, surprisingly decent stereo, great led headlights, not a single reliability issue and cost about the same as a nasty base model Polo with finance discounts. I serviced it once in 17000 miles of owning; which is insane compared with my Mini R56 which works engine oil to the same shade of black, as my Seat did in 10,000 miles, in just 3,000 :O. My Mini is more fun though ;)

Funnily enough, having watched your review of this James I bought one-2016 (66 reg), manual, 4 door, with auto headlights and wipers, and climate control. Mine doesn’t have Android auto and CarPlay unfortunately and I may have to get it fitted. Mine is £20 a year to tax which appealed to me-oh, and being 75 I don’t really fit into your supposed target audience for it. I do really like the car though, it’s quick enough when I want it to be, reasonably economical so far, big enough for a run around, and completely different from the old cars I often find myself driving. I volunteer at the Shuttleworth Collection and am the lead driver on some of the oldest cars, 1898 Panhard Levassier, 1903 De Dietrich, and others-am currently rebuilding a 1900 Locomobile Steam Car-the polo is a nice comfortable place to be after those…..

I also bought a brand new Polo in 2017. Made the mistake of getting a nicely specced ‘Match Edition’ model, however with the 1.0 60hp engine which was severely underpowered. I wish I went for the TSI, as I bet that would have transformed the driving experience. Was still a lovely little car, it’s just I live in a rural village with lots of T-junctions and merges onto 60/70mph roads, and pulling out on those roads always felt a little nerve-wracking. Was written off last year thanks to a lady tailgating me whilst on the phone, hit me from behind at 45mph.

Really like these cars, I’ve got the Audi badged version, the A1 BlackEdition Cylinder on Demand. Love mine. Check the belt has been done at 60k or 5 years before buying as it’s costly. Check the DSG goes through gears under load without a faint squeal between 3rd and 4th as I had a 2011 A1 prior to this and the dsg let go at around 95k. Think they might have binned that gearbox in the later cars but not sure. Do your homework and these cars will last a long time. Not spent a penny on mine other than routine maintenance. Key for anyone who wants to spend all of their money on beer, but still have a half decent motor! I think in response to your video, the Audi version of this does go for a higher price tag, but you do get a lot of stuff on it if you buy wisely. Mine even has high beam assist and a glass sunroof, as well as all the usual auto lights, wipers, climate etc that you’d expect from a much flashier car. And if resale is your thing, it will depreciate slower as there’s always someone who will buy an older Audi. But a VW? Maybe harder to sell to a young driver who’s looking for something better than their mates. Loved the review, cheers.

Not too different from the 2015 Leon SC FR I had, a 1.4L variant of the TSI engine with cylinder deactivation. Trailing arm rear let it down in the twisties, but remap to 200BHP (super unleaded) gave it a bit more pep for the taller gears and made up for it. Mine had a sunroof and the alcantara seats so felt a bit more premium. £20 tax! And yes 50 MPG was easily obtainable cruising at 70. We have a 3 door polo 6R at home. It certainly looks better, more elegant. Big doors help with getting in and out, however on a tight parking space they can be a bit of a pain. We rarely use rear seats but when we do, we always hear complaints. It is quite ungainly getting in and out of them. As a car enthusiast I would always choose a 3 door car as long as those back seats get used rarely. Thing is, it seems general public prefers practicality over style and I respect that.

@@stokovsky8483 Our family cars were always 3 door so for me getting in the back seat is second nature. It's an inconvenience for some for around 20 seconds per journey, if there is enough space most people can live with it. On the other side visibility and space in the front is much better especailly if you are tall as is getting in and out not to mention that 3 door cars usually are lighter shorter and stiffer. The one thing that sucks is doing cab duties with people getting in and out at different places, as for tight spaces i find consolation to the fact that only two doors are at risk rather than four😝

If you want to do cool cars for young people feel free to message me. I bought a 987 Boxster sport edition at age of 21, cost £9000 to buy and only £838 a year to insure, doesnt always have to be hatchbacks for fun cars

30 pounds of taxes a year is what an Italian would pay if bicycles were subjected to possess taxes here. Or it's the same for a 30yr old car that fits into the heritage vehicles list

A decent little car and pretty cheap to run. About the same size as a Mk1 Golf too so enough room. No one will be looking at you either. It doesn't shout about tiself. Nice.

This guy either can't drive or those Avon tyres are bad - I've only ever used the original (which it came with) Bridgestone Potenzas on this car and even when I was absolutely caning it in the twisties I ran out of bottle well before the car was ready to run out of grip. His comment about it not being agile seems misplaced, as anyone who dailies one of these on good tyres will agree with.

While Today's automatics are 1,000 times better than those of 40 years ago, to put them in small underpowered econoboxes like this is sacrilege. Same way as it is silly to drive a (non-aMG) S class with a manual (IF offered), iti is even sillier to drive a car one size SMALLER than a GOLF with an auto. In a damned corolla, maybe it's ok. NOT in a VW.

Why on earth would anyone buy this car? Want sporty get the GTi. Want economy and comfort get 320d / i . Surely this is worst of everything in one overpriced package? (Bit harsh I know but happy to hear counter view!!)

The same people that buy fiesta eco boost 140s. Young drivers looking for something reasonably quick, easy to drive and cheap to run. I think the earlier 2013-14 cars are decent value at 6-8k. Later cars like this one are a bit overpriced when you compare it to a same age polo GTi.

I don't get why anyone would buy a Polo, period. Dull to look and to drive. Zero character or charisma and not even got a great reliability record. Plenty of better small car choices out there IMO.
