A few years ago, #Volvo reinvented itself with the all-new second generation #XC90. It was the basis for the entire Volvo lineup and really helped to remind consumers across the globe that the company still knew how to make some really elegant cars with the traditional Swedish flair. For 2020, the #VolvoXC90 gets the most subtle refresh we've ever seen and that is okay because the 2016-2019 models were so good, every manufacture took notice and made their entries that much better. The new #XC90T8 still remains one of the most comfortable, luxurious, and quick twin-charged plug-in hybrid SUV's on the market.

Did anyone else forget the fact that the current XC90 came out nearly 4 years ago? Volvo did such a great job making this thing ahead of the competition, that changes for 2020 are so subtle, only the most diehard XC90 fans will notice the differences. @@josephstead4250 - I haunt the Swedespeed Forum, and while there were a lot of complaints about problems in the first year the Gen II XC90, almost all the problems seemed to have evaporated. Occasional problems, as with any car, but these threads die out very fast as hardly anyone else has had the particular reported problem.

Overall a nice review. Remember this is a 6/7 seat SUV - usually going to be used for families with 3+ kids. Performance and driving dynamics is not something to be high on a wish list for a large family SUV. Safety, space, fuel economy, comfort are.

@@Adam-oo7tn I had a pop-up screen in a Cadillac CTS I owned years ago. I hated that feature so I got rid of the car. I really have a dislike of screens on top of dashboards. The new Ford Explorer screen is the size of a microwave oven door. Just horrible. But I guess people do like that feature, otherwise they wouldn't be selling.

Cary Coller true. yeah i know the cts has it too. damn i love how hidden it is when the car is off though. idk it’s just cool to have for me. personal preference i guess. the only in dash nav units i like are acura. probably because they are fixed on top of the dash with the hood above it to reduce glare. love that. especially the RDX 2013 model year.

As an XC90 owner, I think Sofyan's expectations rant towards Volvo's powertrain performance is unreasonable. Volvo has hitched their corporate wagon to turbocharged, supercharged, and electrified versions of their 4 cylinder engine. The XC90 doesn't compete against the Mercedes GLS or BMW X7. The Audi Q7, new Cadillac XT6, Acura MDX, Buick Enclave Avenir, Infiniti QX60, Lexus RX, etc., are better premium/near luxury 3rd row competitors for the XC90 (especially the Momentum and R-Design trims).

J High as another XC90 owner I agree. Plus part of the joy of owning a Volvo is the owners take pride in not taking themselves as seriously as Benz and BMW owners. Look at the Prancing Moose for example.

Good review as always, only complaint is why do all reviewer's constantly go on about 0 to 60 speed when reviewing suvs. It's not about speed its about gas performance people capacity, gagets and price. Also what could be included could be servicing costs etc.

Who cares about more noise and 0-60 in 4 sec....let's have a pleasant drive and good mpg.....and be able to use regular gas or diesel...and of course a great audio system, a SUV one can take for 3K round trip and the short trips .....People who ask for noise and power ( as well as large low profile tires) probably only drive like 100 miles per year and are concerned about what race head people think...while others laugh at them for buying substandard vehicles for expensive maintenance and daily cost price

Hey, not fair! The BMW X7 starts at almost twice the price! Also keep in mind that Volvo was able to create an entire lineup of vehicles based on 1 chassis and 1 motor which cut major costs for them and they were able to put a lot more resources into the development of this 316 horsepower Power House 4 banger. I just keep mine in DYNAMIC mode and it cooks! Hands down my favorite car, I just wish I hadn't upgraded to the R Design, I thought the mid-range leather seats were perfect and a little softer.

The soft closing doors and power tilt steering wheel aren’t really necessary. They just add to the cost and are more things to malfunction. Volvo adds other nice little extra touches instead.

Funny that the smell of the car was mentioned several times. I am old. And thus remember Volvos from long ago and recall going for a ride in my neighbor's P1800 and thinking, at the time, what a wonderful smell it had. Much better than the pedestrian Country Squire and even the fancy Thunderbird driven by my Ford Family. It's good to see Volvo is still alive, well and producing lovely cars. Unlike it's cousin, Saab, consumed and destroyed by GM.

Best keep noise to a minimum, only very a remote engine noise with slight variation is acceptable. I drive a Volvo and don't want conversation intruded upon by engine noise, or radio/music drowned out by fake engine sounds. The biggest variations in noise I hear are from the road, choose low noise tyres on slightly smaller wheels and even that is lower.

I do think they are the nicest suv out there .. quality is up there with the cullinan and better then the range and the reliability better then every other SUV ... the black exterior with a set of black chrome 22/23 rims and blacked out windows is such a gangster looking beautiful truck/sedan .. I just priced one out for 2020 top of the line with the plug in and it’s 75,000 grand and to be honest that’s not bad for what you get , I priced out a Escalade and Denali and they were about the same price the caddy was 5 grand more but everyone has them and I do like them but to stand out from the joneses and get a quality and I mean quality interior this is the car to buy

Soyfan, if I remember right, there is a reason Volvo doesn't do power adjustable steering wheel, and, true to form, it has to do with safety. I heard it explained in a review a couple of years ago, but I can't recall what it was - perhaps has to do with making the steering column absorb a collision? Maybe ask your contacts at Volvo.

John Smith I think it’s the LEDS. I notice in a lot of videos LED lights flicker but they don’t do it irl. I think it’s the way the camera catches how the light is emitted with each frame. It’s not visible to the naked eye so I think it doesn’t do that not on video I feel like he would’ve said something

Owned a xc90 a few years ago, started giving me problems after the 2nd year, then traded it in at 52,000 miles for a 2017 Land Cruiser. Better said, beautiful car inside & out, but will only last you 2-3 years maybe 4 if you don’t drive that much.

Volvo states the lack of power tilting and telescoping is for safety, if the electronics fail and the driver is pinned during a crash having a manual unlocking column would allow an easier extraction.

I don't like soft close doors or electric tilt/tele steering wheels... essentially worthless features that are just more things to break, IMHO. As far as sound goes, the T8 being so heavily muted is quite important - it's a hybrid that has 14~18 miles of all electric range - you don't really want a sudden surge of noise when the engine cranks on at 75MPH and starts applying power.. you want a continuation of the pleasantly quiet drive you were having.
