Is the 2021 Ford Mach 1 the BEST new Mustang GT you should buy?

The Mach 1 is back and Ford has upped the performance oof the Mustang GT platform. Under the hood is a 5.0L V8 that is producing 480HP & mated to a TREMEC 6-speed manual transmission. Riding on a specially tune magna-ride suspension and unique 19in wheels. On the outside there isn't a shaker hood but special Mach 1 striping, front fascia and rear diffuser. On the inside the differences from a standard Mustang are subtle but if you look closely they are there. Is the 2021 Ford Mach 1 the BEST new Mustang GT you should buy?

Hi Joe, I ordered my 2021 Mach 1 Fighter Jet gray, ebony interior, Tremec 6 spd, back in jan/2021 it just came in and I pick it up yesterday 3/14/21 its awesome msrp $57,500. no discounts on Mach1. but after putting 25 miles on last night in my opinion it is worth the wait and price . Great review bro. I don't like the Grabber yellow or the standard rims at all. Love the front and rear design. Love the 10 speed automatic option which is why I would purchase the Mach 1 over the GT 350..

Great review Joe. The smooth Florida roads may make it hard to tell, but how is the tramlining in the Mach 1? Back when I drove the GT350 (the 2016 model year) it would follow every rut in the road like crazy. It detracted from the driving experience quite a bit, unless the roads were very smooth. I'm wondering if the Ford engineers have improved things...

There are many people saying this car isn't worth the price, but I disagree. (Well, I'd better disagree; the Velocity Blue Mach 1 that I ordered 5 months ago is only two weeks away!) I spec'd out a premium GT with the active exhaust system and all the bells and whistles. It priced right up under where this starts, but lacks the GT350 and GT500 performance parts, as well as the unique front end that sets this car apart. Plus, the (relative) exclusitivity of the Mach 1 badge means I won't often see one coming my way. Sure, you can get other cars for the money- it's not much of a stretch to a ZL1. For me, though, with 21 years of driving mustangs under my belt, this car is a sweet spot that I have no doubt will have me grinning with joy. Thanks for the review!

Ford does a great job on the exhaust sound. I wish the C8 had a bit more sound from the Z51 option . The mach 1 sounds better then the raspy GT350. The 2020 Shelby GT500 sounds the best of all current performance mustangs. But $80K + gets a bit pricey.

From a very recent article from Motor Trend. The Track pack Mach 1 lapped VIR faster than the fantastic Shelby GT350. *From Motor Trend* The new Ford Mustang Mach 1 is excellent, and it represents the tippy-top of the non-Shelby Mustangs-it essentially replaces the GT350. We've gone on record as saying it's "a GT350 with a lower redline"-high praise. And for less money than a used GT350

Wow Joe Ford did indeed hit it with the colour tone on the "Grabber Yellow", not often done these days. The graphic package and the subtle trim colours, along with the wheels are also excellent, exceptional, and impressive, a very unified design. Beautiful & nice sounding Mach! Nice review! In 1974 I bought a 1970 Mustang GT, 351 Cleveland, with 90K miles for $600, it was beat up but as a 16 year old.... a lot of fun! In 1989 I bought a new Mustang GT, 225 hp as I recall... for $14,000. Now this is approaching $60K, how do most American's afford this? lol .... Down here in Aus, we never got the Shelbys, but the Mach 1 sure fits the bill for we old-schoolers who grew up with naturally aspirated V8 manuals. Unfortunately, we don't get the Grabber Yellow, nor the handling pack option, but we get everything else in a Mach 1. Thanks again, mate; love your work!

Already ordered one in Grabber Yellow, but with the optional wheel design and Recaros. We don't get the GT350 in the UK, so that's not an option - the Mach 1 is the best spec'd GT we get over here. My car should be here in May/June and I can't wait. Thanks for the review, Joe.

Hopefully the new mach1 will be my next mustang but 480hp they could've also brought up the torque to 460 since no 500hp. Nice review though

Coyotes are known for top end power moreso than down low torque. But 420ft lbs for stock is quite good but the downside is the pricing of this vehicle.

If the wait hadn't been so long, I'd have one of these. As it is, I went with a 2020 Roush Stage 3. Definitely in another level, and I'm glad I chose it. The Mach 1 does look like a fun car, though!

That reminded me of last year when I bought a 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider S. I knew the dealer invoice for the Low Rider S was around $15,000. I even told the sales rep that BEFORE he came to me with his first offer. He was asking for $23,000 OTD. I laughed in his face and walked. A week later I found a dealership that sold me one for MSRP $18,000 OTD.

For a car that’s suppose to fill the shoes of the gt pp2, bullitt, and gt350/r, this thing ain’t too bad. I certainly like it more than the pp2 and bullitt, but the gt350/r will always have a soft spot in my heart. That bitchin voodoo was the last of its kind.

Joe, awesome review as always. I was about to pull the trigger on a 6 speed scat pack challenger because of the tremec. With the Mach 1, I can finally get a mustang with a tremec without the full cost of a GT350 etc. How do I decide now? Would love to see a comparison between the two or at least just get your thoughts.

I drove one of these about a month ago and was very impressed almost turned in my 2020 challenger 50 but the money just wasn’t there in the trade so I walked.
