Is the 2021 MINI Cooper SE Countryman All4 a GOOD plug-in electric hybrid?

Mini is continuing to push forward to combine great driving characteristics with fuel saving technology and the 2021 MINI Cooper SE Countryman All4 is a perfect example of that. Under the hood is a 1.3L inline-3 is combined with and electric motor to produce 221HP and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the good news is that this Countryman looks like a traditional Mini. On the inside you will find more room then you would expect just by looking at the exterior. I have one of the first of these that came in Canada in 2018. Love it and the acceleration is really something when the electric motor kicks in to assist the gas engine.

You mentioned EV at 18 miles. Here in the UK for the same model we get 32 miles of electric.

I think the old one had 18 miles range - the new one (2021 model) is 32 miles - or it could be its 32 miles WLTP and 18 miles EPA?

@@scottwills4698 The new one for 2023 only has 17 miles of range. I'm test driving the gas version tomorrow and if I like it, I'm getting the untamed All4 version, which they're literally shipping from overseas. For me, 17 miles is good enough, because most of the driving I do is less than that. If you're doing a longer drive, I'd tell anyone to not use it on the highways. Only use it in stop and go city traffic.

I have the regular petrol 3cyl 2 dr hardtop and I absolutely love the engine. Minimal issues other than regular maintenance. I did have to replace the alternator at 102k and it was $1040 just for the part 😟😟😟😟😟😳 I’d hate to see the pricing for these new electric gadgets

We had two Mini Coopers. A convertible S and an All4 S. MINI Coopers are the most fun commuter vehicles. I miss them. The great thing with these is your not like everyone else. These are a rare car to see. The issues. So this cars MSRP is 44k? I bet you can pick one of these up in a couple years for 24k. Horrible resale value. Let's just say from somebody that has had the pleasure of owning MINI.. sell it before the warranty expires. BMW charges an arm and a leg for everything and the maintenance schedule is very painful.

It is not a twin turbo, it is a twin power turbo. Common mistake. Only one turbo. Where the twin power comes in is that the exhaust manifold separates the exhaust gasses, allowing them to flow through two spirals. While a fairly advanced and sophisticated engine, the twinpower stuff is mostly marketing.

Aren't these about as expensive as a BMW to maintain/repair? Currently have a 2013 Prius II and it's been problem free for eight years until a couple weeks ago when the engine light went on. Still, less than $500 to fix. Nothing to do with the hybrid battery.

This 3 cyl engine is in many BMW and Mini models and has been for a number of years. Probably fairly reliable

Engine is a 1.5 turbo three cylinder, not a 1.3 naturally aspirated. Should have the specs on hand if you’re not sure.
