"Best" is subjective based on your criteria, but for us the Ascent is best. We cross-shopped Kia/Hyundai (poor long-term reliability), Pilot, and Grand Highlander. For adults in the third row Pilot and GH are better. For awd and safety Ascent is better. When you factor in cost, Ascent is way better as ours was $10-15K less than Pilot, even greater difference to GH.

Subaru hit a double with this car when they could have hit a home run. Bring back a new conventional automatic and a new non turbo boxer six cylinder and they could get there...and i agree with others that you can't beat the bargain of features with this subaru compared to other models which we priced at much higher$$.

Idk why but 90% of reviewers apparently don't even know the paddles exist for a traditional automatic feel, weird

The Ascent Onyx trim is a heck of a bargain for a great family suv!
