Is the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo a sport performance truck worth a $40k price tag?

Nobody is understanding the point of the Lobo. The Lobo is essentially a performance handling package. That's why it's not an ST. All a customer needs to do is do a few simple mods and tune it. The 2.0 is already proven to push over 300 horsepower.

@@bryy2053 In my area there are 3 Syclone and one Typhoon. I'm not into SUVs personally and the Typhoon is a Jimmy that would in todays market fall under SUV. I liked the Pickup back in the day the Lowest milage one was 45k miles and the highest price of 45k the other 2 were both over 100k miles. I'm sure the one you saw at 60k is from a collector with crazy low milage and MINT condition.

The Syclone had a 4.3L LB4 turbo V6, not the 3.8L LD5 turbo V6 from the Grand National. It’s a very common misnomer.

@@justinw7756 It was GM's standard V6 engine in the late '80s for the Monte Carlo, El Camino, Grand Prix and others but they stuck a Mitsubishi turbo on it and a Garrett water-to-air intercooler with multi-point injection rather than the throttle body injection on the naturally-aspirated cars that had the standard LB4. A similar variant, the LB1 was used in GM's trucks and vans during that era.

Lobo is what they called the f150 in mexico. I wonder if ford will add a performance f150 for U.S. with the lobo package. Would love a street performance truck from factory, like in the old lightning and chevrolet 454 ss days

This! I love the regular Maverick, but even the regular one just feels a little too "Mexican truck" for me to actually drive one. To be clear, that's not a racist thing - mini trucks are absolutely a beloved thing in Mexico - and the Maverick already plays on that spirit in a subtle way. This Lobo makes it even less subtle and to me, that's not quite the direction that is going to get me to buy one. Still, always nice to have unique new models on the market! Daring wheels, looking cool. Good job Ford.

Kind of a slammed Outback Baja turbo or a Focus ST with a bed - sure it's not bargain basement pricing but doesn't seem out of line. I'd probably prefer a decent cloth seat with better bolstering, but on par for the American market. And I'm not normally a fan big oversize 19" wheels, but those look really nice.

honestly 40k is a bit too much for the maverick I would say I'm indifferent about this release, the mavericks have gone up too much since there original release used to start below 20k now they start around 27k not really a huge Bargain anymore

For this thing to be legitimately called a sport truck Ford needed to up the power well into the 300hp range, and that needs at least the 2.3L EcoBoost out of the Mustang/Focus RS. That garden variety 2.0L Ford uses for the rest of the Maverick line doesn't cut it here.

Maverick is killing it on sales in 2024. Officially outselling the Toyota Tacoma. Year over year June 2023 to June 2024 sales are up 81% for the Maverick, while Tacoma sales are down 40%.

Tacoma is in the midst of a big change, switching factories to Mexico IIRC. Tacoma by the end of 2024 will outsell Maverick. The Mav is a well designed product, and i am mad that they bumped off Hackett as CEO of Ford; he launched both the Bronco and the Maverick, the two best new products Ford has made in decades. Sure wish they would come up with a super low end Maverick, stripped to the bone for people to customize; and open source their software so we can change the UI ourselves.

One thing I don’t care is why they would call it a Lobo. in Mexico, Lobo is the name of the F150! Mexico, instead of saying, F150, it literally says LOBO. Also, it is a bummer. It doesn’t include the 2.3. Nonetheless, I did the exterior styling , and I still think going with blue plastics inside was a great choice instead of a gray or black, the 13 inch screen is definitely an upgrade. what is not an upgrade is the price. 😅

for $40k I think your better off going with the Nissan Frontier. I wanted this truck but Ford went full greed and limited the supply and made expensive F-150s. I'm salty for it but Ford can kick rocks for such a scummy strategy. Now all of a sudden I'm sure this truck will be more "available" now that the price has gone up.

They're looking at the Santa Cruz sales and saying.... Nah. Let's keep making TRD sport and Rock Creek edition compact CUVs and go after the Outbacks' much larger pie. The Maverick is far more utilitarian, seeing utility companies scooping them up to replace f-150s and rangers. Honda and Toyota wouldn't be willing to make something that utilitarian (needs to appeal to regular commuter/families not just for work) Unless it was body on frame, and their truck teams show no interest in making something that small that's also body on frame. Honda Ridgeline sales are steady year over year, but it's also not a smash hit in the segment. It seems to have hit its ceiling. Overseas though, the Suzuki jimney is pretty sweet, and A pickup on that platform could be fun.
