What will the future job market in the aerospace industry look like in the UK?
This video compiles some research I have done to paint a picture of what the aerospace job market is like in 2021 and what I suspect it will be like in the near future.
It covers a breakdown into civil aerospace, defence aerospace and space.
If you’re contemplating whether aerospace is the right industry to go into, this video will help you make that decision and give you a deeper insight into which aerospace sub-sector is best to go into right now.

Hi, I'm an international student planning to study aerospace engineering in UK. As an international student, I'm afraid I might not be able to enter the space and defence sector but I do like these sector a lot. What are your advices on this?
@SA64R
@SA64R 3 жыл бұрын
So it is very unlikely you'll be able to get into defence since you will have to be a UK citizen, however it isn't as clear as to what the nationality requirements are for commercial space companies, so there may be some chance for you there.

More freedom as to where you can work, easier to learn new practical skills i.e you don't need a lot of area/money and also greater potential to start your own company as you don't need huge amounts of cash to build a software product in comparison to an aerospace part.

@@SA64R Those are very good points. I'm still not very good at programming, but I'm only a first-year student, so at least I still have time to practice. I'll definitely consider applying to coding roles upon graduation.

Does the aerospace industries of UK recruite the employees out UK or there are many issues related to security or defence (like space X or Virgin Galactic)?
@SA64R
@SA64R 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say for commercial, there shouldn't be an issue. For defence it is highly unlikely you'll get in if you're not a UK citizen but for commercial space its still not clear as to what citizenship/residency requirements are needed.
@onetrickhorse
@onetrickhorse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we do recruit outside of the UK, including in defence, but it depends on your country of origin and the role you are seeking. For example, engineers from countries on arms embargo lists such as Iran cannot work in many roles, and technology on the dual use lists or covered by ITAR (international trade in arms restrictions) is restricted to UK, US or EU nationals only. It all comes down to sensitivity of the role. Some civil roles are also subject to restrictions too, depending on what it is.

Hello, I’m from Nigeria and I’m considering getting a masters in aerospace engineering for the September intakes of 2022. My Bacehlor’s degree was in mechanical engineering. What are your thoughts on combining both and what’s the job layout over there in the UK. Would I be able to get into defense aerospace with a PSW visa on graduation?
@SA64R
@SA64R 3 жыл бұрын
So doing a bachelors in mech then a masters in aero is great. Many people do that. The challenge with an international coming to the UK is that you'll be unlikely to get into any of the defence side of aerospace until you're a citizen. However, civil aerospace will take you if you pass their recruitment processes.

I see no one has replaied to you and im probably far too late to be of any use but yes. Those modules will come in very handy especially with year 1 maths modules and year 2/3 engineering management modules (depending on course layout). Other modules/ work that will be made easier include anything with dynamic mechanics and aeroelasticity.

It doesn't work like that. It's very competitive and you have to be best at what you do. Plus it's better to be a aircraft maintenance engineer then an aerospace engineer. I did aerospace engineering from UK but didn't learn anything much and did get any job since I m too dumb.

@Sam-fd3ft
@Sam-fd3ft 24 күн бұрын
Probably not without maths tbh sorry. I've just finished my a levels having done maths but not physics and am on a gap year. After researching it I've found that about half of the top 30 unis (generally between 10-30) accept just maths without phyics/further maths provided you have another science (in my case biology works) for engineering. Its possible some universities that I haven't looked into do but I'd recommend that if you find any, make sure that their course is accredited.

Hey, it is tricky because in the UK there isn't a huge number of top tier roles so many engineers are competing for the same positions. I'd say it would be easier if you do 3 A Levels rather than 2 A levels and a BTEC. If you swap out BTEC national applied science for an A Level in physics you'd have a much better chance to get into a top aerospace engineering degree programme
