See it all depends what a good balance for you is. I'd say if you're looking to get a first from this degree then realistically you'll want to spend at least an hour or two consistently each day outside lectures and other classes to focus on understanding the content or working on assignments. Basically, if you are able to plan your time and know when you have to say to no focus on your studies you'll have enough time to keep that healthy balance.

Hey, do you need to know calculus or algebra for this degree? If so, how difficult is it? Just asking because I'm really bad at math and kinda worried, also what kind of things will I have to learn prior to going to university?
@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
Yes, calculus and algebra are super important in aerospace engineering. It is tough to say how difficult it is as we likely have different strengths so something easy for me may be hard for you and vice versa. I'd say maths is the most important thing to learn before aerospace engineering at university because much of the theory requires you to be competent at things like integration and differentiation. There's not easy way to say it but if maths is not easy for you then you are likely to find the course tricky, however I'm not telling you don't pursue this if it is truly your dream but perhaps there is alternative routes for you to consider such as apprentiships in the aerospace industry, which is less academically intensive.

I really need to know the difficulty of studying on a scale of 1 to 10 for the first year. How long do u need to study and do u rely on Internet information or the notes u make in class.
@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
I'd say there is a fair amount of resources you can access through the uni systems such as practice questions, lecture slides and further reading. So you do have to rely on more than just your notes. It is hard to rate the hardness as I've nothing else to compare it to having only done one degree but the best way to describe it is 1st year is tough as you have the difficulty of A-Levels however the breath of subjects that you have at GCSE hence you do have to spend a few hours each day understanding the content.

Hi sagar. My name is Joseph black and I’ve just turned 16. For a while now I’ve been interested in aerospace engineering and I’ve been wanting to go more towards the plane/aircraft side of it. I was just wondering. What exactly do you learn to do in university. Like would I learn the skills required to build my own plane? More or less by myself? Or do you just learn a specific part of the plane such as aerodynamics or engines? If you could reply I would be very grateful
@SA64R2 жыл бұрын
Great question! The short answer is no, you won't learn the skills to single handedly build a plane. But you learn the fundamentals to understand why various decisions are made when designing planes. I would say however, after completing the degree, you would have a good enough skillset to design and build a mini drone like plane, but definitely, nothing like the real deal. If you are to end up pursuing aerospace as a career, you'll find out that you end up specialising into a specific area of aircraft design, manufacturing or testing.

Hey man, nice vid. I have just finished my bachelor's degree in civil engineering. I have applied to the university of Leeds, and have received an offer for Aerospace Engineering MSc. I was just wondering if you had any advice on this change of study? Such as: 1. Have you heard of anyone doing something similar? 2. Will I find it more challenging finding a job within the field after uni? 3. will I struggle with the content as I have not had the background knowledge gained through an Aerospace Engineering BEng, for example? (the main modules I studied for my BEng were structures, materials, hydraulics, applied mathematics, geotechnics, and infrastructure. I know this is a long winded question, and you may not have the answers, but any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)
@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks :), 1. I have not personally heard of anyone doing this switch but it doesn't mean that no-one does it. 2. I don't think it'd be more or less difficult than someone who studied a pure MEng aerospace engineering degree, since most undergrad (BEng) engineering degrees teach the same core skills. 3. There will be subjects you'll find tricky purely because they're new to you such as aerodynamics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Though I suspect any MSc course that is open to non-aerospace bachelor grads will bare this in mind and help you get up to speed with the basics required. I recommend if you do an MSc with an internship in the middle (hence making it a 2 year MSc) you may be able to find work in the industry and then get called back for a graduate role. That will greatly improve your chances to finding a job in that industry as you would've proved your ability in the field.

Its a great video. I'm electromechanical engineering dropout and I'm now working as an aircraft powerplant technician ; I've an authorization on Trent XWB, CFM 56-7B, Trent 1000, APU 131-9B and 331-200 aircraft propulsions. My question as a technician who loves a propulsion what do u think the fate of the mechanical type shaft driven gas turbines and conventional chemical rocket propulsion will be. I mean the ion engines are taking over the industry. My second question is that do u guys (aerospace engineering students) take an electrical, nuclear propulsion types. if not who would u think is going to build these propulsions ( I guess that wouldn't be u). If u take the courses, it will be great to attach the course breakdown. Tnx a lot
@SA64R2 жыл бұрын
So my specialist understand based on my degree is spacecraft propulsion rather than aircraft propulsion so I will comment on that. Chemical rockets I believe will continue to dominate the scene for a long time, mainly due to their proven capability, though thermonuclear rockets are pretty badass given they are theoretically more sustainable and efficient, though they're still highly experimental. Ion engines are useless on the ground as, yes they have a high ISP but the thrust is sooo tiny so can't be used for launch, however they are great for in space travel for long duration missions. So for applications like in orbit service spacecraft ion engines may be an ideal form of propulsion. We learn aspects of electrical powered propulsion systems for aircraft but no nuclear things. I'd say it would be a combined effort between elec, aero, mech, nuclear and chemical engineers.

I'd say it's important for her to pick a degree that she enjoys because your talent in any area is a mix of your interest in the topic and work ethic. However, the best skill in terms of profitability is any form of STEM degree e.g science, maths or engineering. There are plenty of engineering-related jobs in the UK, though I'd not limit her looking for careers near Birmingham since she may have to work in other areas of the UK to gain industry skills and so on to further her career. Since you asked, however, Rolls Royce is probably the closest to B'ham as that is located in Derby. Yes, people generally go into engineering roles rather than teaching.

However, you can always do an apprenticeship as these are more practical environments and it doesn't hinder your career in the long run.

can i just ask? Did you choose any particular GCSEs or did you choose whatever you enjoyed?
@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
I chose specific GCSEs that make up an English Baccalaureate, so other than English lang and lit, maths and triple science I did geography, Spanish, computer science and religious studies (which was compulsory in my school) (What is an English Baccalaureate: www.gov.uk/government/publications/english-baccalaureate-ebacc/english-baccalaureate-ebacc)

@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
@@YsfWorld yeh for sure. The tools aerospace engineers use to simulate and test stuff are all software based. Also modern planes and aircraft have complex computer systems on board so knowing comp sci is very useful.

Is 4th year a postgraduate degree? Or should i say masteral degree?
@SA64R2 жыл бұрын
So technically the full 4 years combined allows me to get an Integrated masters in aerospace engineering, for example if I dropped out after year 3 I wouldn't get a Bachelors degree as you have to do the 4 years to get any degree.

@@gauravd4725 I'll talk about the UK as that's what I know most on since I'm from there. In the UK the salaries for aerospace engineers immediately out from university can be in the region of £25k-£30k per year. However, with a number of years experience in the field this can go up to around £60k+. These salary estimates on companies like Airbus, Boeing, Raytheon, MBDA etc. There are a handful of rocket startups in the UK where the salaries may vary from what I have said however, salary reliably estimates are hard to find for these. If you're not successful in ever joining one of these top aerospace engineering companies you still have a very good chance to get into top companies in other industries such as motorsport and renewable energy. I know that in F1 the salaries are compatible to the top aero companies, so don't worry about if you won't get paid a lot if you don't get into the space sector, there are other options with your degree.

Aerospace-satellites,missiles, rockets etc. Aeronautical- things that fly in the earths atmosphere

If you're asking the difference between university courses, I do not believe there is a difference nowadays. This is what Imperial College London has told me when I was at an open day. The origins of the two names comes from the fact aeronautcial was more of the study of aerospace so more academic where as aerospace was more of the application and therefore engineering side of the field.
