As far as older MPCs go, I'd say the MPC4000 has the most features of all the older MPCs. It also has 24bit 96k converters, and it's still the "ONLY" MPC that has those high-end 96k converters as of right now. So yeah, perhaps that particular model is suitable for film work. BTW, I had an MPC1000 just like yours but I put JJOS2XL on it and it was such a powerful and flexible machine. I used it at home in a smaller midi setup as the brain to serve as the sequencer for all the connected midi instruments as well as a sampling drum machine. Later on, I started DJing with it and playing it live then eventually using it in a band while playing keyboards. As a result, I eventually got an MPC2500 with JJOS2XL to replace the MPC1000 for my smaller home studio setup while I had my MPC4000 as part of my larger setup at the time. Then, I just kept the MPC1000 in my gig bag and dedicated it for live use. Today, I no longer have the MPC1000 (I traded it in a while ago for some other gear). I've replaced it with a much more powerful original black MPC One back in 2021, which I just recently replaced with an MPC Key-37 a few months ago. The Key-37 is a better form-factor for me because it has an integrated keyboard and it's still ultra portable. I was always hooking an external midi keyboard up to the MPC1000 and the MPC One anyway to get the most out of them. I also acquired an MPC X as well for studio use. However, I do still have my MPC4000 as well as my MPC2500. Those aren't going anywhere. The black MPC1000 I had still had the faulty pad sensor design of the blue and red version. Mine had a gold/brass back panel with black screen print lettering (where the connections are), whereas your MPC1000 has an all black back panel with white screen print lettering. I did buy the pad sensor upgrade kit from MPC Stuff for my 1000 but never did install it. I still have that pad sensor upgrade kit new in the box unopened, and in the closet. I've had it since 2007! I'm still holding on to it for a friend who has an MPC1000. We now live in different states hundreds of miles apart. Whenever he decides to come and visit me one day, I'll have it for him.
@PetrolMediaIncАй бұрын
@@kvmoore1 those are all great points and I agree with you. The only thing is if your 1000 had the brass back, you had a version one. Someone either swapped the top plate, or Akai pushed those out as a color change then made the update. I had the blue one first and hated those pads.
@kvmoore1Ай бұрын
@@PetrolMediaIncYeap. I believe I had the first black version that Akai pushed out with just a color change, but without the updated pad design. The box said MPC1000BK, so I believe it was official. I doubt the previous owner did any swapping. BTW, my very first MPC1000 was a blue and red version. I bought that one new in late 2004, but traded it in after I bought my MPC4000 as few months later. At the time, I was disappointed in the limited features and functionality of the MPC1000 compared to the MPC2000XL. This was before JJOS existed. In 2006, I bought the black MPC1000 used off ebay after I found out about the JJOS and the software improvements it made as well as support for an internal hard disk drive. My black MPC1000 had a 20GB internal hard drive.

Some time ago I purchased a Black then a Blue MPC 1000, Both need a couple of the tact switches replaced but I noticed that there is an issue with a couple of the pads on the Blue one. the JJ OS2XL has so much more to offer than the free version, i would upgrade soon. the non-destructive sample slicing/Chopping is already good in the free version, but in OS2XL it is even more flexible. you get more sample editing functions, for example degrading from 12 down to 4 bit and the sampling rate, combining different samples to one sample, adding fade ins- fade outs and so forth. more sample looping types, beside the standart Drum and Midi Tracks you get also Audio Tracks, rendering to Audio (resampling), the grid view, which is placed on the main view window, also has more editing features under the hood. i love it!😁

This is a silly question. Any older MPC is good today
@PetrolMediaIncАй бұрын
I don’t think it’s so silly. I think it’s considered silly for those of us who had one today and in the past and know that the functionality of the tool is really not that different from the current newer models. On the other side of things there are newer guys and girls who refuse to go back to the old stuff because they feel it’s too complicated when in reality it’s so much simpler than what they’re already used to with the new machines. So the relevancy of the machine is a fairly viable question. Yes, you can do this in a DAW. But will it have the exact same field that really is the question I guess and it’s very debatable. I know when I make music and logic pro I can get the feel to get close but the feeling I get from working on one of these versus a DAW is very different.

Great info, thank you! I thought you can get a compact flash to Sd card adapter, then a sd to micro sd adapter then throw in a 120gb micro sd. I did that and it works, used a micro sd because it is current technology and cheaper. Overkill for a sketch pad, but very cheap Need to upgrade to JJOS just for the chops, still using the SP404 mk2 to chop because it’s so fast. Also, I love looking at this machine after I upgraded the black model with white cheeks, white buttons, white sliders and black data, vol and gain. 2000xl jog wheel is addictive to just finger and roll 😂
@PetrolMediaIncАй бұрын
I tried the compact flash yo sd adapter. I’ll try it again but it failed the first time. Maybe I need to format it on a windows machine and not on the MPC? That may be the trick. No it’s my preference. Remember you are looking at it from above, I’m looking at it from the front and the version of the OS has nothing to do with the contrast. That’s a physical change. The battery mod runs great. I’ve ran it for 6 months now. I did a session with it for 4 hours with no issues.

That being said, my workflow is so solid that switching to the new setup permanently doesn’t make any sense to me. I'm not saying that it’s bad because I know it’s amazing. I’ve seen amazing things done by others and I have the studio two with the SOFTWARE and I get down with it, but it doesn’t make sense since it slows me down. Secondly, I have no interest in having a speaker on my MPC. I use headphones all the time because I don’t necessarily need everybody to hear me performing. After all, that’s not what I use mine for. I feel like the live two is perfect for those who are performing so from that perspective, it’s great. It’s just not really for me.

@@StatetrooperBillyBillI’ll pass. All I will really do is slow things down. It’s a great idea if I was young And was starting out and still figuring out what works for me. But I already know what works for me. To me working with these two devices as a starting phase works really well and in the end everything ends up in logic pro for final work and mixing because over 28 years I’ve built templates in logic pro for mixing and producing to get everything out the door to the publishers, who are waiting for things from me.

As I have been diving into the tech more and more, the circuitry is identical except for the 8out board.
