Good video! Thank you. The AN-2 is still in use in several air forces, as well as civilian operators, including parachuting clubs and such. Awesome aircraft. Such a great view out of that "greenhouse" cockpit. (And thank you for the wide aspect view, it fits my monitor perfectly!)

A friend of mine flew an AN-2 from Oklahoma to California several years ago. He said they averaged 60 mph ground speed and it burned 1 gallon of avgas per minute.
@sprocketsimulations

East to west is never kind on aircraft. I took a Bonaza A36 in the sim with live weather and my indicated was 175knts and ground speed was barely 100. I can also remember a time IRL flying a 172 and we had to significantly adjust our course/altitude because we were literally just staying put over the ground despite showing 110KIAS. I’m surprised it made it there burning that much fuel at those speeds!! Thanks for sharing, I love hearing these stories!

Amazing plane truly. Very resent a Cuban pilot stole one and flew from the providence of Sancti Spirtus Cuba to Florida. Later some called “experts” came by to move the plane to another nearby airfield and crashed the plane after a few min from taking off. Not so good on gas but very reliable piece of machinery. Made for rough conditions, Manual has it that when there’s an engine failure the pilot should extend the flaps to 45 degrees and pull the yoke all the way back Once the plane is about to reach the Critical angle of attack the Slats will deploy automatically making the pane drop as a parachute. So technically I cannot be stalled.
@sprocketsimulations
@sprocketsimulations Жыл бұрын
That is hilarious! I heard the slats CLUNK when I was learning to land it and didn't know what it was. Figured it had to do with stall speed and pitch. The thing is basically a parachute in normal configuration when landing! Thanks for sharing!

The tooltips and in-sim checklist have the oil temp gauge and the cylinder head temp gauge misidentified. The cylinder head temp is the gauge just to the left of the nav light panel. The triple gauge near the bottom is oil temp, oil pressure and fuel pressure. That is why we are thinking the oil temp is too low. I confirmed this in a real world POH.

Fun fact: Getting into the AN-2, that's one of the few things in this rather foreign cockpit that i immediately knew. Because the GotFriends Wilga uses that same oil/fuel pressure and oil temp combo gauge. Same primer handle too, i believe. :p

Check out this video for some more explanation and an excellent program called pilot2atc that is a great ATC program. One step down from using VATSIM which I also recommend.

A lot of plane for the price of a pizza. Plus are the looks, the cockpit and the attention to detail for this price. When it comes to flight characteristics, I have stomachaches here and there. It's amazingly agile, the elevator trim is a bit light and sensitive, and the slats and flaps create less drag than expected. But the manufacturer will definitely do something about that.
@sprocketsimulations
@sprocketsimulations Жыл бұрын
I think it is even less than a pizza now a days!! The slats don't seem to do much besides make a loud "thunk" when retracted.
