Don't apologize for the insurance rant! More people need to hear how messed up these companies are. I love watching your channel. Have been since 2019. You've helped me with so many questions and suggestions. Hope things get worked out and you feel better.

Great to see your getting better Andy, hopefully be up to full strength soon and able to carry on with the project 🤞 Still doing my own project, brought a Shetland about 5 or 6y ago now. Ripped everything out, re core the deck, made new cubby holes and fixed existing lockers. Still loads to do, but not been able to do anything at all this year so it's just sat waiting. Life's got in the way, family losses and moving home and work, the boat had to wait. Just like to say a huge thank you for your teachings that you've put out there that enabled me and so many others to be able to learn how it should be done. Can't wait for the next chapter on the bertum 👍

I've been following your channel for a very long time. You were always the best at explaining structural and (more specifically) fiberglass issues. Thank you. I learned a lot from you. As an older person in a different field (70 years old) it really is really frustrating when you have the knowledge to pass on, but your body breaks down, and you can't demonstrate it. Hang in there. I'm still pushing forward on things that I have been told I am too old/injured to do. They were wrong, and I am sure that you will work through it too. Best of luck moving forward.

I have been a subscriber for many years and really enjoy your content. I had my left shoulder replaced two years ago and my right shoulder was replaced on November 6th 2024. I was lucky in that I have the same insurance as you but apparently a different plan as they did cover the post op PT for both surgeries. I have been through PT for a total knee, total hip, and total both shoulders replacement, (so far) 😞 what I can offer is that for me at least, all of my PT for every surgery was really nothing more than stretching and movement exercises to get your range of motion and strength back. Yes they are professionals at PT that know when you should be able to do this or that or when to increase weight, etc, but frankly the biggest advantage they offer is showing you the things to do (and not do) at home and MAKING YOU do the exercises and stretching twice a week, in my experience simply using the "limb" as much as possible without causing pain is key. You do need to be mindful of NOT OVER DOING IT, but stretching especially and LIGHT weight training with 3-5 sets of 10-15 reps should get you back up to par in no time. Good luck 🤞

Thanks for the update and good luck with your continued recovery. That said, if that tank is fiberglass you may want to get an aluminum tank made. The alcohol in today’s fuel can deteriorate the tank walls and cause fuel contamination problems in the future.

Been following for some time now, mostly for the Alexseal paints. I have done a few boats over the years and have been working on a 29 Blackfin for quite a few years now. Its an on and off project (mostly off recently as life always seem to get in the way). Ive primarily been spraying Imron but im exited to try the Alexseal product this spring on a smaller project, a 17 Rothbilt skiff. I will try to locate some photos of a 25 Bertram Moppie that was completely redone back in the late 90's. I periodically see this boat circulating the internet. Until then, i hope you gain full use of your shoulders and have a Merry Christmas. Keep up the great informative work!

Good update Andy. Had a similar issue two years ago where I exhausted a lot of my PT allotments on chiropractic then when I had to do PT for my hip replacement I got stuck paying a lot out of pocket. Given the monthly cost and out of pocket expenses it was a real shot to the bank account. I hope you can start moving in the right direction with the gym. Merry Christmas!!

Had to laugh when you found your solvent (been there done that) good to see you are getting back on your feet with the recovery from your surgery. But you have to pace yourself don’t go too fast too soon or you could damage yourself and be worse off. We need you and your channel for education and entertainment I for one definitely want to see the Bertram done and on the water, but not at the cost of your health and mobility. Enjoy the holidays with your family and we will see you next year.

Looking forward to seeing the progress videos again man. I also know some of the frustrations that come from injuries and recoveries getting in the way of things we want to do. Kind of hits you two-fold. Can’t make progress on the projects due to physical setbacks, and that can lead into a bummer mental heath thing due to not making progress on the things you’d like to be doing (hope that makes sense). Anyway, good luck on the shoulder, bud. Keep us posted.

Sorry about the cost and hassle with the shoulders, but good it's at least making progress. Gym work is not fun, but you might want to consider continuing it from here on out, as training not only fixes things, but prevents a lot of stuff which is just as important as age goes up. I speak from experience having started training late, but managed to cure several things, and havent had any pains or issues come up these years I've been doing it as it typically did before. Again, gym is a chore, but you don't have to do much IMO. I just do 2 sets of 7 with weights that's comfortable in order not get fed up with it, but even that has built muscle and strength over time (I go every other day). The added bonus is extra energy. Everything is just easier to do and sleep is better too. Anyway, looking forward to the boat build, cheers.

I had my rotator cuff done about 10 yrs ago. All I got was a big rubber band and a rope and pulley and a bunch of instructions. Took about 6 mos and I was back to 90-95%. Don’t know what’s changed for your situation, but not sure on the expectation with PT. You should be able to do it on your own. Prob be more difficult with the first shoulder not being fully recovered. All I was told was to do the exercises 3 times a day and go to the point of pain and no further. Went fine for me.

Good update. Just a question but do you think it is still practical to have the store, no offence but it looks like you don't get much walking in. Wouldn't it be better to have a small area with some shelving at the shop? Again just asking form someone looking from the outside in. Peace

I don't offer walk in business, doesn't make sense where I'm located. Strictly online sales only :-) It's end of the year so not re-stocking inventory until Feb but shelves will be full then. @@boatworkstoday Ahh, now get it... As a semi private person myself I can totally relate to that. Was a good vid. Where are you located? I would love to bring my boat by. I comepletely rebuilt my transom - with coosa and 1708, and it is as strong as a tank. I am about to rehang the old (single engine) bracket - From Stainless - I set this aside due to my own repair issues (not unlike you) and also I wanted to recalculate the height for the 300 Yam. This is on an 89 Concept Marine (not to be confused with Concept) a sturdy center consolve fishing boat. I've been figuring each step out on my own, and this has been a lot of trial and errort - it took me 6 tries to spray the paint (due to outdoor temp fluctuations). Would be great to get your advice.

When laws require insurance companies to cover all people and all medical services which have a 100% risk of occurring, those suffering from rare or catastrophic injury or illness get the shaft. It's grossly anti-actuarial. We are all paying high premiums and high deductables to subsidize things that do not impact us.
@russianbotstein1422Ай бұрын
As an Australian, you guys can keep your trash medical system. My dad had both knees replaced for free, he has never owned health insurance in his life and he is worth 2-3 million in assets. His surgeries and after care was all covered by the public system.
@WreckDiver99Ай бұрын
I hear ya on medical. Worked for a Fortune 10 company. Medical insurance cost me over $10K/year and had a High Deductible. NO PT Included, Prescription coverage was a joke and I used GoodRX because it saved us so much over using the "Prescription Plan". Insurance forced us to a single pharmacy that didn't actively stock my son's medications so they had to be ordered monthly (no 90 Supply Allowed). I retired from that company 2 years ago, and my wife is retiring next summer from hers. We're mid-50s. We'll have to use the unaffordable care plan come July. We've been told "Be prepared for crazy costs, and horrible coverage"...I actually know people that gambled the last two years before they turned 65 and didn't pay for it, and instead paid the penalty for not taking the insurance....because it was 1/4 what their insurance was going to cost them. That's what happens when you suddenly put $750B of added burden into the system back in 2010...we will be paying for that for ever. :(
@boatworkstodayАй бұрын
I've been saying that same thing! The past few years I haven't used insurance once but was still paying into the system each month. Gotta wonder if I had not had insurance and just banked up the payments I could have paid for the procedures out of pocket and possible been ahead???
