Is the BMW M2 Competition a BETTER performance car than a 2022 Toyota Supra?

The M2 Competition is one of the purest driver's cars made by BMW. The man competition to this BMW comes from Porsche with the 718 GT4 & the Toyota Supra. On the outside you will discover the optional color called Long Beach blue, 19in wheels, massive brakes and two-door design. On the inside you will be greeted by a full leather interior, M branded steering wheel and 8.8in infotainment system. Under the hod is a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 pumping out 405HP & mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Is the BMW M2 Competition a BETTER performance car than a 2022 Toyota Supra?

We had a 1988 5 series….bought it new…all my buddies said the service and repairs will kill you. Drove it 325k miles…only sold it because it couldn’t pass Kalifornia smog…other than normal maintenance, brakes and tires…one head rest motor failed..and water pump was replaced at about 200k miles. BMWs are awesome and this car seems like real winner. Nice job and kudos to you and Lori!

My history FYI - Purchased a new M3 - Kept it a few months and sold it for a new Porsche 917S (great car) but when my BMW dealer called and a 2021 pre-ordered / but cancelled M2C came in I jumped on it and have never looked back. The M3 has no soul and this M2C is dripping with soul and so much more - So excited to see my fav. KZbin channel RR highlighting this unbelievable car yet again. I use it as my daily driver only because after 8 months I can still not wait each day to get in it and drive it. The most perfect size / HP automobile I have ever owned. *Joe Happy 2022 can not wait for your reviews this year - you do it like NO ONE ELSE in the biz - Period!

Great Review! You are correct. Very difficult car to find in a 6 speed manual now that they stopped making them. I found mine in Sunset Metallic early in 2020 and LOVE IT! I am like you every time I drive it - smile ear to ear and out loud laughing. I scare my wife every time we're in it...😁😁😁

I drove several cars on my search over the past year or so. I have a AP1 S2000 and wanted to add another drivers car to keep the miles down. Drove the go to ZO6, GT350, M4 etc.. The internet had me sold on a Cayman S or 718. I drove all three back to back and hands down the M2C! Total package. Feels so much faster and aggressive provided it has Tourqe compared to the Cayman. I knew immediately this is a fun car! I've had the same spec M2C in this video (except for DCT) for a month now and I'm 100% happy with my decision. I love manuals but I feel like this car was designed for the DCT. It feels so much faster and it's lightning fast shifts. Awesome car!

Great car and review. I have a manual e46 M3 and have to say the shift gate and clutch pedal feel is the best I have ever owned. I even prefer it to a 911 twin turbo. That is just my opinion.

M2 comp is stunning (especially the CS). I don't want to even think about some of the latest BMW styling efforts, though. I think the M2's are peak modern BMW styling. Nothing against the Supra, but something about it just looks like it's trying too hard. Too many styling cues thrown together. I may be biased though, as I have a blue m240i x drive. Amazing car. You get 90 percent of the real world performance of the M2 plus AWD so it can be an all year car, even in the snowy Northeast. Love the channel. On throttle for 2022!

Hey Joe! Thanks for what you do! Love your channel! I'm in the market for new car in a couple of months and wanted to ask you your opinion. I'm trying to decide between the M2 comp and Cadillac CTS v blackwing... Or spend half the money on a new GR86? I've driven an M2 comp and I used to have a BRZ. Never driven the blackwing. I have the means to make the BMW or Cadillac happen but the GR86 is just so much cheaper. I love rwd manual cars and have been thinking about this nonstop for a while. Thanks for your input!

I'm extremely tempted to buy a 2021 M2 Comp right now, BUT my next big purchase is a house in Texas, so I have to resist for a while lol. Plus on top of that A LOT of dealerships are doing 10,000 mark ups on their M2s, more if it's a stick so waiting really is the best choice until the market dies down again.

This one is it. Last true M car. Everything after this might be faster and easier to drive, but they will be souless. I also love the the traditional tach/speedo look. I don't know how you're going to find this thing for less than 100k. But it you do manage to buy one, it'll probably be worth it.

Great review, I think you absolutely nailed it. Although, the crappy brake pads make keepIng the wheels clean a tremendous chore. I think the only reason someone would pick a Supra over the M2, is if they can’t drive a stick and if they prefer what others think about styling. To the average person that doesn’t really know much about the enthusiast market, the Supra stands out more, so they think it’s cooler and that accounts for something. An enthusiast is probably going to notice the M2 more. As for the M3, if you absolutely need a 4 door I guess that’s an option although I would go with a black wing v4 over an M3. But for a 2 door it’s M2 All day over an M4, unless you want a GT car over a drivers car. This M2 is the last of the BMW ultimate driving machines. Everything else is getting bigger and more intrusive. The incoming 2 series has already unfortunately grown and this was already the perfect size. Unless BMW makes an M1.5 people better hold on to their F87 M2s if enthusiast driving is their #1 priority.

Or the Supra transmission is great for being just faster than most. Lamborghini and PORCHE are automatics lol but no one complains about that. Not saying the tranny is good like the super cars but same concept. I’m a big manual guy but when I got in the Supra and put it manual mode and felt how quick it shift and responsiveness, it blew my mind. Manual cars are amazing tho.

Great car ! The strange think is how in USA it's becoming popular the stick driving and in Europe the automatic transmission! Personally speaking I have no idea how yout drive an automatic transmission car (I guess is not very difficult ) because my whole life I'm driving with stick as the majority in my country . But I have the impression that automatic transmission is better for high HP cars !

I’m gonna say the M2 is better than the Supra, because you can get the M2 with a 6MT but you can’t do so with the Supra. I’m looking forward to the G87 M2. I just hope the manual G87 M2 will be offered for sale in the UK.

Love love love your reviews. Definitely approve the on throttle action. Had an F82 now an F97 Comp Also a 718S. The handling is better on the Porsche, but M cars drive a certain way. Drove the Supra once. Very much any M40i in the BMW range with a Toyota interior.

If u want to put 20 foot longs and 75 Twinkie’s go for the x5 M competition. If u what the best handling and the most nimble this is your ride. Personally I prefer the supra. Yes I may sound crazy I prefer sound of the 3.0 liter engine in the supra and I do like the styling better but all the fake vents I can do without.

love the way you narrate stuff man.. the M2Comp pays true homage to the E46 M3, way more than the E92 ever did and has more power to boot. Comparing this to a GT4 is says alot for BMW given that the GT4 costs considerably more and its a very different animal. As for the Supra comparo, the Supra manual is coming and I am hoping Toyota vamps up a few more things other than just the transmission. Even if the new Supra has more BMW in it than JDM roots, once it is offered in a manual, I think it will come down to individual preference as to what the person wants to look and drive. Either way you cannot go wrong with an M2Comp.. I owned a 2019 M4 and still wished I had picked up an M2Comp instead.

Hate to say it, but I think I like the exterior design of this car better than the new 2 series for 2022. The size is also perfect. Similar to what the E46 was. Only negative when I drove it was that it felt a little twitchy. BTW - When you drove the car, were the tires OK? I saw the low tire pressure light was on.

The door unlock switch/button right next to the emergency flasher button in the middle of the dash? I have NEVER seen that on ANY vehicle Joe's reviewed. NEVER. Every vehicle on the planet, except this one, has the door master lock control on the driver side door panel. And the radio station selector numbered buttons? Who does that anymore? And no Android Auto either? Fake side vents. And the TPMS shows low pressure. Love the color.

The radio buttons are actually shortcut buttons that can be used for anything, including navigation points and any function in the infotainment. If you hover a finger over one of the buttons, the car will display the linked shortcut in the infotainment screen.
