Is the C5 Corvette Transparent Top Worth Owning? - Pros and Cons of the Glass Top!

Also enjoying an example of a '04 Vette since Feb. '22. Having found this torch red, red seats, and red carpet (triple red) C5 online at a small car lot. Looking at the pics for a few days, I could not make out what the pic was of the trunk with some dark shiny object in the back. It turned out to be the smoked glass top. The red color matched top was affixed in the pics and at the lot. Popped the hatch and realized what it was. Cool car for sure. Traded in a clean red with grey leather carpet and trim '92 Volvo 940gl, with165k miles that just sat for years as the extra "family car". The Volvo was dangerously slow compared to today's cars and the Vette. I live in Atlanta, drive too slow and people get pissed and blast past you in their 300hp Hyundai. The smoke glass top is pretty hot in the summer with the sun shining inside the car so I run the painted top. The painted top is in a heavy duty storage sleeve that it slides into and velcros shut; in my bedroom closet leaned up under my hanging shirts with a bunch of Nike Air Max's lined up in front. After some research, I know that it was an "option" and I'm glad they did.

Very nice! Yeah the smoked top is a super cool option and it’s great that your car came with it already! I’ve never seen a triple red C5 before that’s super cool!

I have an 04 C5 with both tops. I live in NE PA and find that even though the transparent top lets in more light, it doesn’t retain the heat in the winter as well as the color matched top causing to to take longer to warm up. Also, I find the color matched top to quieter when driving. I find myself using the color match top more than the transparent top.

That’s true it really depends on the color of your car probably. My corvette is white so I feel like a lot of the heat from the sun is reflected off the white top on mine

Makes alot of sense i just bought a 02 with 20k the acrylic roof is about 1500 eBay has some but I rather buy it thanks for the video

I had both,put on the clear one & my car was garaged ,it stayed nice. The painted on was kept under my bed 6 yrs. I live in Florida & it never bothered me.

I instead....after watching this video... Prefer to stick with my body painted roof panel. Don't want to ruin the interior's plástica lol they're already pretty susceptible to get damaged because of the heat. Thanks for the vid man!

Yeah I think it can be a fun mod, but there’s definitely some downsides!

I have a 99 that came with both, never use the acrylic. Well not much anyways.
