As far as tires go, I choose to use a high quality car tire for the rear. Kuhmo. I only got 6,000 miles to completely wore out on the factory Kenda on my 2023 Spyder RT LTD which I’ve put 24,300 miles in the first 10 months. Ride 2 up fully loaded. I put the Kuhmo on and found it much better in all aspects. Handing in all weather conditions and speeds up to 100 mph. The Kuhmo was $50 less money and wore 3 times as long. It is rated at 149 mph and A traction, A temperature all season tire. The jury is out on the front tires. From the factory they was mounted improperly, red dot not anywhere near the valve stem. Severe out of balance shake at 55-65 mph while on a coast to coast trip. I took it to a Can Am dealer in Wisconsin and found that the left tire had too much weight and wrong location. Right tire not enough weight. Cost me $180 to get it sorted with tire removal and re balancing. Also tires not completely true (out of round). At 24,300 miles they are due for replacement. I’ve heard that Can Am has a newer improved tire. I’ll look into that and maybe give them a go, but I will definitely stay with the car tire on the rear. My dealer has no problem with that. I’ve added the Baja Ron Ultra (straight) bar with Billet links and found much more stability especially at speed 2 up. I have 2 Moto Guzzis in the stable. A 2020 V85TT Adventure with over 21,300 miles and 2023 V100 S Mandello with over 12,000 miles. I bought the Spyder because my wife has been diagnosed with onset Alzheimer’s and can no longer ride her own motorcycle. We rode together for over 45 years. She still enjoys and wants to have knees in the breeze even if it has to be 2 up. She had difficulty getting on and off my 2 wheelers and we even fell once, therefore the Spyder so I can continue to take her all over this beautiful country while she is still able to enjoy it. I enjoy your UTube videos very much and helped me transition to 3 wheels probably much quicker than if on my own. I’m 80 and have logged over 900,000 miles in my riding career. Pushing for the million. I recommend your channel to everyone I come in contact with Spyders. Keep up the good work. P.S. I run a FOBO tire pressure monitor and run the tires at factory recommended settings. 20 front 30 rear.

I felt my 2018 F3 purchased used was very reliable. Sold it with 79,000 miles on it. My 2023 bought the end of April 2024, had three issues, two that affected riding... First one happened before we left the dealership .. driving lights wouldn't stay on... It required a bulb replacement as it was defective. All good until this past weekend...I now have 8500 miles on it in about 4 months and I now have a Suspension Fail... My air pump comes on way too often and it is struggling... Air bag won't stay firm. We were riding two up when it quit altogether... Nowhere near the weight limit. It was a long ride home from West Virginia with Tommy G feeling every bump. I know our service manager will fix it but it's frustrating to have to wait 2 1/2 weeks to get it fixed and yes it's all under warranty. Ask me again after this issue is taken care of... And yes, I take care of my Spyder...battery tender always and change my oil every 6500 miles... Though neither of those has anything to do with these two issues. 🤷♀️

I’m almost at six months with my 2023 RT Limited, almost 9,000 miles. Just got my first VSS Fault (just for a moment at startup), but it went away immediately and no issues resulted. I’ve had minor gremlins pop up, none of them unheard of by other Spyder owners. But nothing that makes me regret my purchase. I love my Spyder. And for me, it’s my only vehicle.

I had the VSS Fault come on when I was riding downhill curves in the mountains on my 2020 RT. It wanted me to go in “Limp home mode.” After letting it rest for a bit, it started up without coming on again for quite a while. Apparently I was using the brakes too much. Turned out I needed to have the recall done on some relay. My dealer had it replaced in 30 minutes and I’ve had no problems since.

I've had my 2020 RTL for a little over a year and (knock on wood) no issues so far. I put a new rear tire on at around 10k miles. I've done all the required services. It's my main mode of transportation so I take care of it and it takes care of me. I do as many rallies and local events as I can, and I can't wait to put a lot more miles on the Spyder! Have fun and ride safe.

I bought a left over 22 in 24 and the biggest issue I have had with the bike was that Can Am used a battery that was not to their specifications regarding charging amps. I believe they gave me one with 300 Cold Cranking amps and on numerous occasions I was having some starting faults (VSS) and also some other faults due to the low battery element. The dealer where I purchased the bike indicated that the battery and charging was up to spec but after the replacement install I stopped using a charger as every time I started the bike it seemed like there just was not enough juice to get it going. I installed a better battery (Yuasa YUAM6250H YTX24HL-BS Battery) and have not even seen a hint of issues from the bike. Very pleased with the purchase and passed the original Can Am battery to my lawnmower, a much better place for that battery.

Yep, they started using cheap imported batteries (Haijiu brand). My 2022 RTL came with one and I had to replace it after 10 months. I installed a Yuasa and no problems since.

OK... let me start by saying I have a 2023 Spyder RT Limited that has a little over 3800 miles on it since I bought it last year. I did some upgrades to it, including getting a better-than-stock battery (did that after getting a few VSS fault codes), wheel balancers, Baja Ron sway bar and connectors, and a few others. I can say since then, I have not run into a single issue while out riding - granted, my current riding style is local (100-200 mile circuits). I do plan on longer trips in the future that will be probably around 300 miles a day - part of that will depend on how my body holds up.

Finally watched a KZbin video on starting the the Spyder and sure enough, I had bumped the kill switch to the off position and missed it. I never use the kill switch, I always turn it off and on with the key so I had gotten in the habit of skipping the kill switch for decades and forgot to look at it.

My wife has a 2021 Sea to Sky with about 19K on the odometer. She had the coolant tank cracked last year (2023), and we had to replace it. I was surprised that BRP did not cover the tank under warranty. At the time the bike had about 15k on it. We also had to replace the belt in May of this year (2024) after a rock cut the inner edge of the belt. We had the bike in for a rear tire change while on a trip. We were happy the technician found the cut belt during the tire change, so it did not fail in the middle of nowhere. I see the new 2025 Canyon has a belt guard on it. I am hoping it will be able to be retrofitted to her model. Where we live the local townships just love to chip and seal the roads, which is not good for belts. It is either take a chance of a rock in the belt or leave her bike home for several months during the summer.

Parts, the problem with parts is two fold; a new part is typically made by 1 manufacturer thus a backup manufacturer is not likely to be available. Patent laws come into play if there is any manufacturer that might want to become either a secondary supplier or even the primary. The original manufacturer may be tapped out with production for assembly line which is the problem the Maverick. Ford had totally failed in guessing the demand which was huge compared to their projected demand. Maverick’s had several recalls that the failure of the part was greater than anticipated demand and improvements HAD to be made and it impacted production for both the assembly line and the recall demand.

Hello effervescent Coach Vic! I'm on my 3rd Spyder. My 2012 only had one repair. The coolant overflow tank cracked (common enough it's known in circles) and had to be replaced. Traded it for a lightly used 2019 (I wanted the 1330) with no problems, and traded that last year for my current 2022. Again no problems, but I will say the 22 makes more odd noises that don't have a definitive source, and come and go. This seems common enough people comment and my service department seems to know. The usual caveat of keeping oil changed (the 1330 especially is a shear monster). My latest run on oil analysis showed it sheared the factory fill to a 30 weight in 1250 break in miles, and was filled with all manner of metals associated with a new engine. Frequent tire replacement are comments are also seen all over the web. CanAm, to their credit, has finally announced a new tire with longer life on the '25 model, so I'm anxious to try that out. As usual, cool Coach Bob gives it to you straight up, and in a great blog manner.

I recently bought my first Spyder. It's 2013 RT SE5. Only 9000 miles on it and had sat for over a year in a garage. It had a good but worn rear tire. I've replaced it myself with the same brand tire. The battery was new and came with a tender. I did an oil change even though I was told it had recently been changed. I also put magic mirrors kit from Lamonster on it to help me in the future. My experience has been awesome riding it. Listening to this channel helped me a lot with the safety recommendations by coach Bob. The only problem I experienced was one time scraped the road with the bottom frame under thd motor. So I'm wondering if I can get higher ground clearance? I would love to take a long journey but I worry that the rough roads I've not been on in other states might not be suitable for the Spyder.

My Spyder has not let me down. It always starts and goes, on demand, without issue... until a couple of weeks ago. I was in Ohio at the MotoAmerica Mid Ohio races with Tom & Jody, and the 2nd morning, we jump on our bikes, and my Spyder won't start, the lights are on, but nuthin'... not even a clicking sound. After a couple tries, turning it off and on, I get off and go and tell them my Spyder won't start. Jody, bless her heart, walks over to my Spyder, then turns around and tells me it was just my kill switch. I've never used the kill switch, but the night before, "somebody" who rides a Harley, rode my Spyder, and used the kill switch when he parked my Spyder... phewww... so that issue wasn't a problem at all. I've been fortunate to never have had a dependability issue (yet) after 4 years of Spyder ownership. But, as you've indicated, I do know of others who have had some issues, and you're also right in stating that no manufacturer is perfect. 👊😁👍

Have a 2022 Spyder RTL since May of 22 & it’s been great . Did not like the moisture towards the end of September while we was on our end of season camping trip. But did start up after a few extra cranks! Do agree about the regular maintenance, even thou we don’t do the schedule mileage that BRP recommends, only just pushing 8,000 plus kms. Only issue I had on first time out on the trailer, I caught the gear module under the bike on the tie down on the trailer. Had it towed to dealership which happened to be not too far away & used the road side assistance that came when purchased, took longer to call them then the tow truck to get to me! Having a good dealership really helps even thou the one I chose is an hour’s drive from my home. Great video once again coach, regards Stephen Alberta Canada.

Several took another ride and when we took a brake at Dairy Queen again it did not start after about ½ hour, it started after numerous attempts it started. It has ben in the shop 7 months now and the only thing fixed was the FM Antenna. After that fix it would not start and it is still in the shop. It has 1,029 miles. To be honest I get a lot of business from prior spyder owners and some who are reluctant to buy a spyder due to all the electronics. Most opt for a gl1800 and a front wheel conversion as the gl is virtually trouble free across the board. With this being said if I wasn't building SportTrikes I would own a spyder as I just love the back road abilities of this type of motorcycle.

I find my 2022 Sea-to-Sky very reliable. The reason is very straightforward; regular maintenance and regular care. I follow what's in the owner's manual and the only things I added were the Baja Ron swaybar and led lights in place of the reflectors on the front wheel covers. I changed the seat shock and the rear trunk shock. The only problem I encountered was a defective battery that my excellent dealership replaced under warranty. I also have had no issues with the BRP connect and the BRP go app on my android phone; I can listen to satellite radio and I use the Sygic gps app as well as the Fobo tpms app. I've changed all three tires and put on Kenda's because they were designed and engineered for the Spyder. And I've had my service done at my dealership; it's expensive but worth it in order to keep it in the best shape (I also store it there over the winter season). Great video Coach!

I rode 2 wheels for 50yrs. After my last crash and realizing my age(76), I decided I needed something more stable but would still give me my wind therapy. Three years ago I bought a 2018 F3T. It had 3000mi on it at the time. It now has 30,000. The only problems I have had is the coolant bottle split at the seam and the parking brake continually locked up. I have no reliable dealer support in my area(L.A.) so I replaced the coolant bottle and picked up a small wheel chock from Harbor Freight that lives in my saddle bag. I have made the ride from L.A. to Deadwood 2yrs in a row. This year I just completed an 1850mi ride thru California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada. This machine literally rode thru Hell. I spent 4 days in triple digit temperatures and she never missed a beat. I perform all the required maintenance and make sure she is taken care of properly. Dealer prep upon their initial uncrating from BRP also makes a huge difference in customer satisfaction and later reliability or will lead to multiple gremlins. So the original dealership really matters. If they have someone puttimg them together with no BRP training, there are going to be problems. I have owned several Spyders and motorcycles. All were reliable motorcycles except one, a 2020 Spyder RT Limited which hands down was the worst machine I ever bought. After several recalls and multiple issues & failures, I took my losses and got rid of it. Riding an older Spyder now and it performs flawlessly.

Very nice machines imo, but for me that "parts availability, or lack of" is a no go. It's a mechanical creation, and things are going to happen...as it happens with all brands, but they should have reasonable supplies of all major parts (in stock or rapid access) that seem to be problematic so the clients can keep them running and enjoying them...that belt replacement is a prime example of failure from the company... 5 days is ridiculous. The dealer issues are another failure for all brands...far too much hit or miss quality customer service these days...it boils down to true willingness to honor warranties without a fight, pure greed for profit at all costs, and even dealerships just being a number to the companies they represent... I have been fortunate and no major issues in cs, but all brands are experiencing challenges to finds new customers, retain existing customers, and other brand competition to bring folks to "their" brand. Trust is earned and respect goes both ways. Keep riding and enjoying the hobby...take care of each other.

My question has nothing to do with riding. I have a 2024 Spyder RTL. I can not get my Apple Car. Play to work. It won’t seam to work even with my iPhone plugged in. I can get connected but car play still won’t work. And I can get my headset connected. Both connected but when I click on CP it tells me no phone detected. So what trouble shooting should I try? The dealership had it connected and working. But it doesn’t like my phone for some reason. lol sorry for the long message.

I had a similar issue. It turned out to be the lightning cord itself. This cord was an apple product but must have been broken inside. Some aftermarket products only have the power terminals connected and not the data. they must all be connected. I suggest this because you mentioned it worked at the dealership.

Has anyone had an issue where the coolant reservoir gets cracked? Also could leaking coolant cause a low brake fluid warning? Service checked the brake fluid level and it was good. 2021 sea to sky with less than 4k miles.

Hi Coach...thanks once again for keeping it fresh and real. In the interim, those of us who are yet to acquire a Can-Am Spyder will continue to glean from your experience, expertise, wisdom and good humour. (Yes, that 's humour with a 'u' - I am Canadian after all). 😉

THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT LENS /COVER FELL OFF AT 1900 MILES IT COST 40 PLUS DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE THE 2 DOLLAR COVER CANT BE PURCHASED ALONE. THIS IS KIND OF CRAPY.
