This is a great video! I was on mpb and I thought this item would be to old but I was considering getting it for my Canon EOS RP

Thanks Dylan! - It is a great Speedlite. I have two 550Ex's and a 600Ex rt, Even though the 550 is bigger than the 600Ex I just seem to prefer it. mpb is the place to go to get good used equipment, I have used them for years.

Hi Stephen hope you are well, great review and a nice flashgun, the famous canon cripple hammer (see camera conspiracies channel) strikes again 😁. I must admit that I haven't got any modern flashguns only a couple of old Vivitar 285's and a 283 they must be 30 years old, I don't use them as Nikons can be a bit dodgy on the trigger voltage, I did a lot of flash photography back in the day when I shot film 😉 and took photos for a local bowls club when they had trophy presentations, I setup 2 flashgun on lighting stands firing into white umbrellas, unfortunately I never keeped any of the photos or negatives ☹ I suppose I should invest in a new flashgun but to be honest I've not been in a situation where I needed one. Looking forward to watching your flashgun videos. Best wishes stay safe Jon.

Hi Jon. Thanks for the kind comments. I have a total of 3 speedlites. The first would only work on my older 350D as it didn't have the crippled hotshoe, and was only manual and not TTL. As I had some wedding photography to do (all done now) I needed a speedlite that would work on on both cameras that was TTL. Hence the research and the 550Ex. After I got one and used it to test I realised how good it was so got a second (Purely to use as a slave unit). As I stated, I wish I had got the 600EX-RT - But I am happy with the 550 for now. I actually cut out the part about trigger voltages and things to look out for (mainly 3rd party units), should have kept it in. I will check out that channel, sound interesting. Stay Safe.

@@StephenJoines why back in my early days on KZbin I did a video on checking the trigger voltage. How did the wedding photography go ?

@@lensmanonline The wedding went very, very well. Enjoyed every second of it. Checkout the facebook page and let me know what you think.

Master, I wish you well. I have a 550ex but it won't let me connect it as a slave to a CANON T7 camera. On my camera's screen when I want to configure an external flash it tells me *Menu not available. Flash off or incompatible, or an accessory is attached* But none of that is true.
@StephenJoines2 жыл бұрын
I have known this to be an issue with a few flash guns. The main reasons are Camera and Flash are not compatible, which is typical of Canon camera's and canon flash guns (and also 3rd party flash guns). The flash should still fire using it as a manual flash and not E-TTL. What camera and flash gun are you using?

@@StephenJoines CANON T7 and FLash 550EX CANON
@StephenJoines2 жыл бұрын
@@LohammiKristofferson07 ah the T7 (also known as the 2000D in some countries ie the UK). These are missing the Sync connector (centre pin on hotshoe). All I can say is I do not know of anyone who gets the flash menu to work on the T7 (2000d) or the 4000D or even the 250D (all missing the centre pin). But, the good news is the EX range of speedlites (like the 430, 550) work with a crippled hotshoe Canon - Even in E-TTL mode. So, Basically the menu on the camera is useless but the flash will work fine - Just change the settings on the Flash instead of the Camera. Sorry I couldn't be more help - Its Canon's cost cutting of these Cameras.

@@StephenJoines Muchas gracias por su respuesta, aunque debo decirle que la CANON T7 que tengo si tiene el pin central en la zapata, a menos que este solo de adorno. Bendiciones
