I have a ct-x700 and I turn off the touch sensitivity because the notes I lightly hit aren’t loud enough. I am used to learning on my acoustic piano and use a keyboard for fun mostly and occasional practice. I ordered a ct-s200 because I love the portability. I want to sit on the couch or bed and mess around with it but I didn’t want anything too small with mini keys. This seems to fit the bill. I wish they’d make a higher end one with this kind of portability.

If you can get near new for $80, it's worth buying in 2024. My level is intermediate beginner going back decades ago. What I am learning is traditional keyboard, which means that almost all of the features of digital keyboards mean almost nothing to me at least up to this point. I already have a full keyboard, a Roland FP-30X. I have had a Casiotone CT-200 for about 12 hours now. I have found that it is a better instrument than it at first seems to be. Don't expect superior sound out of the resident keyboard speakers or even your headphones, but it is does have adult-size keys and a functional action once you get used to it. I think I will be using it a lot to play exercises and chord progressions. I am interested in pop music and am already doing some songwriting. In that way, I am using the keyboard as a substitute for a guitar. I do want to add something though. Even though I have quickly figured out that I can use the CT-200 as a learning and working tool, it will be an effective tool only because I am going down to it from a full keyboard with good acoustic piano emulation and because I have actual past experience with acoustic pianos. Even the lowest bargain-bin instrument with 49 or 54 keys can be used as a learning tool, but I think that if someone has no experience with a full keyboard with good acoustic instrument emulation, the value of a small low-end keyboard as a learning tool is going to be diminished. If you are a parent who wants to buy your child a keyboard as a learning tool, pay the price and get them something decent with weighted keys and good sound. A low-end instrument like this one can be a nice tool for someone who knows something already. With an inadequate instrument, your child might lose interest quickly out of disappointment with the instrument and you and they might incorrectly conclude that they have no musical interest and ability. The bar is high, and you have to clear it. Sometime you just don't, but if you don't try, you'll never really know.

I initially passed over this keyboard with a glance, interested to get a Roland Go:Keys to go with my Roland JD-Xi, and maybe get a Privia PX-S3000 or Roland FP Series later, but for $139 for the CT-S300 with the touch sensitivity and pitch bend, I think I should get this, even if I plan on getting the Go:Keys later. Thanks for the great review. Your kids also did a great demo of the sounds on this CT-S200.

Your videos are wonderful. I think this is a really nice keyboard at this price point. The major thing missing, however, is velocity sensitive keys, but that's understandable at only $109 (and, of course those wonderful sounds that the Yamaha has, especially the flute you played). The real issue here is how much the Yamaha PSR E series has not kept up.This $109 keyboard has a ROM that presumably can be ungraded whereas the Yamaha PSR E263, E363, and E463 does not allow this, and also bass note chords. That's inexcusable in this day and age. Well, perhaps the 7 series..

Yet another excellent video Jeremy (funny, I've seen so many of your videos I'm beginning to feel as if I know you). An interesting device from Casio ─ who lately appear to be doing things right. In absolute terms not a good keyboard of course, but amazing at the price. I can see it being the source of quite a few teenage birthday presents. Like another person commenting, I'm not in need of any more keyboards, but I like to keep up with what's available and you are the best impartial source, and presented with good quality. I do have a suggestion for your consideration: some of your videos are just talk ─ always good info, but usually leaving me with a wish that you had concluded with a brief sample performance sample to gain an idea of the sound..

I like Jeremy's videos, but the elephant in the room is the quality of the voices. I am a longtime Casio user and fan, but when I heard the voices, they were just too paper thin and bland. If Casio had used samples from the Privia or even the CTKs, they could sell these at triple the price. A lot of musicians want Casio voices that are of the caliber of the Privia, but nobody playing live will haul around an 88 key instrument. I have played live a lot and only once did I bring the Privia. Here in Nashville, on Broadway the stages are too small and many bands don't even have a keyboard player for that reason, but when they do, they are cramped for space. It's my opinion that the voice quality is what holds this back, and gigging keyboard players are usually opting for synths.

On these entry-level keyboards, it would be helpful if you did a video about the learning features. I'm especially interested in the lk-s250 lighted keys vs this one. There don't appear to be many videos on the learning / training aspect. All of these keyboards -- including the most entry-level -- appear to include features I wouldn't figure out how to use effectively until much later in my learning. How about a video that just focuses on what keyboard is the easiest to learn on.

As a pretty experienced pianist. I think those features are useless. It's like training wheels on a bike - take them off and you're back to square one.

Thanks for the video, I ordered one as I need a simple, no frills keyboard for home practice and to take with me to play with friends. I have some great synthesizers (Nord Lead, and Nord Electro so I obviously also got the Casio in the red colour) at the band rehearsal room but I don't want to drive there every time I want to practice something and those are not practical to carry around as they have no internal speakers so this will probably be ok as a portable/home keyboard.

Hi Jeremy, nice review, nice little keyboard to make a fun gig with friends on the beach, in the street or around the campfire. This thing is a PSR E263 killer. I would rather go for the S300 though, what, with its touch sensitive keys and pitch-bend wheel. A few comments: the styles sound rather nice, a pity there are only 77 of them. On the other hand, the Grand Piano doesn’t sound like a piano at all, it is really too thin. But the flute, the accordion and the percussion organ sound really nice. I had a good laugh with the sampled sounds: they were already to be found on the SK1 and SK5 about thirty years ago!!! I don’t see the point to buy the S200, though, since for thirty dollars more you get the full Monty: touch sensitive keys and pitch-bend wheel. I bet the S300 will sell like hot buns at Christmas. You should do another video devoted to the Dance Music mode, kids will love this. One question: which is the first tune you’re playing on the video? Have a nice weekend.

Yes! I had fun on this. $30 more for touch sensitive keys and a pitch bend is a no brainer. I just made up the first song. 😁 The other songs contain some known times but had to be purposely mashed up due to copyright reasons.

What is the purpose of a "pitch-bend" wheel? Unless one is playing _Aloha Oe_ ... I mean, I had one on my Yamaha, almost three decades ago; but never figured it out.

how does a Casio CZ from 40 yrs ago sound better than their latest keys ? Casio needs to return to its CZ origins to regain market share among synth enthusiasts.

It looks like a good starter keyboard for the kids or a nice budget midi controller. If I got it I would get the touch response. I could see these selling well during the holidays.

For $30 more you can get touch sensitive keys and a pitch bend wheel. Yup, Casio will sell loads of this in the upcoming Xmas for sure.
