That's why it's important to do your research. Don't go by what other experts think they know about washers. It's best to get info from the source. Think for yourself and use your intuition. If you have a great washer and it's doing a great job it's best to keep it. I love Eugene's videos and I admire his knowledge on washing machines. Knowledge is power.

Just goes to show that the most expensive isn't always the best. Folks just need to do some homework when purchasing a new appliance these days as they definitely are not made like they used to be.. I have had a Frigidaire Gallery top load for over 20 years now and so far no problems at all but I only average about 2-3 loads of laundry per week. This guy here knows his stuff! Thanks.

The trick I learned is to wash everything on "bulky bedding". On that setting the spin starts super slow and stays slow for a while before speeding up - and that's a good thing because it saves the washer from what I call the unbalance death spiral where the suspension rods and main axil wear out causing it to wear out faster. The worst thing you can do is wash towels on "white" - it goes into fast spin aggressively when the towels are still way too heavy with water - and it will wear your machine out fast. I suspect this one was always run on "bulky bedding".

Completely agree with you. About 10-12 years ago I bought a Speed Queen top loader 3.2 cubic foot capacity. Ran it 7 days a week, 3-7 loads a day. Lasted 7 years only. Paid a little over $1250.00 for it. It rusted out completely. Started leaking, etc. Stopped working. The manufacturer's many-year warranty wasn't covering any part of the machine. So that warranty was completely worthless, in my mind. Bought the cheapest GE washer at a big box store for $600 with the cycles and tub size I needed. It lasted 13 months. Ran it 7 days a week, with 3-8 loads a day. Family of six, lots of washing. Currently, I have a Maytag I got for $680, didn't bother buying the extended warranty. Use only HE liquid detergent, Lysol laundry sanitizer in the fabric softener dispenser, use only warm water (never cold) and clean the machine with a washing machine cleaner once a month. I'll be happy if this lasts more than three years. I agree that washers no longer are built to last ten years, much less 20 years. I was toying with the idea of getting a Speed Queen front loader but when I found out they are more than $2,000, I decided I'll just stick to the top loader models. I've always been curious about the Amana and Roper brands. I think I didn't buy one of those last time because it was missing cycles I needed (for example, extra rinse). I guess I'll just stick to the lowest-priced top loaders with an impeller than have the cycles I use most. Nothing lasts forever. Thank you for your video. I learned a lot.

@apAvocado

@@joshuamoon9312 I will have to check that out. I'm glad it has the second rinse option. My Maytag died last year, July 2023. There were so many thunderstorms with lots of lightning storms in my area that the motherboard got shorted out. It was out of warranty and I was sick of the impeller. I ended up buying an LG top loader with agitator, (wt6105cw) at Lowe's, on sale, for $550. Had to buy hoses separately from an appliance store,, we brought it home ourselves and installed it ourselves. So far, it's working. The Normal cycle is crap, it washes your clothes with a minimal amount of water and the rinse cycle has even less water and only agitates for almost three minutes and then drains and spins. I just use Deep Wash for lightly soiled clothes or use the Heavy Duty setting with an extra rinse. Only use warm or hot water. My water bill cost is $40 but I'm washing clothes, bedding, towels, etc, for five people in the house. Tub cleaning cycle once a month. I still refuse to get a front loader after my pink mold experience with my 2002 Maytag Neptune (which lasted 12 years), apparently, that machine hated Louisiana water.

We replaced a Whirlpool that was purchased in 2002 this year with a new LG. That old Whirlpool lasted at least 18 years before my husband had to make a repair. It did have the issue with the agitator being stripped that last year. I really really thought long and hard about refurbishment, but it was starting to rust in places that came in contact with clothes. I probably did at least 7 loads a week for those 20 years. 6 person household-including 4 children and pets! I even used cloth diapers at times. I really like my new LG, but I certainly don’t expect I’ll get 20 years out of it.

This shows that not ALL modern appliances are garbage! Whirlpool really hit the nail on the head with this one, especially being only a $399 machine! It seems these inexpensive Whirlpool machines have less to go wrong than the higher up models (not the Maytag commercial ofc, that is built better than this but a lot more expensive) so they run longer. 5 cycles, A true dual action agitator, Deep water wash system, what else do you really need? Great video Eugene :)

Even the Maytag built upon this platform is better than their original designs. when a original maytag/ admiral breaks, like a frigidaire/electrolux laundry center, you throw it away. I worked on too many that they were not easy to repair either. These new units are from a reliability and technician standpoint better and easier to repair, the only drawback is the suspension rods which all new top loaders have. But this whirlpool design is 2nd to their timer switch direct drive units from the 80s-2000s

I just wish I could buy an old Maytag washer that uses a normal amount of water, and actually cleaned my clothes!!!! I bought an old used Maytag in 2001. I had to replace something on the machine between 2001-2014. She finally bit the dust in 2014. (this was already a 5yr old maytag washer in 2001). It was a no frills Maytag washer that I would HAPPILY give $1500 for a new one, just like it today!!! The next washer was a new Maytag top loader with NO AGITATOR. The snake oil salesman convinced me that the fact it had no center agitator would be easier on my clothes and the machine would last longer. HAHAHAAAA!!!!!! It was easier on our clothes alright!!! Because it certainly didn't wash them! This was my first HE washer. And it sucked from day one til the 4yrs later, when the bearing spun out, and she started leaking. What a POS!!! Now I have an IPSO (Speed Queen under another label). Its the only washer that I've seen that will actually wash my clothes close to as well as my old Maytag washer (built prior to the govt limiting how much water a washer can use). Now, my $2,000 IPSO needs at least one new shock absorber, bc my wife washes blankets in it, like she's mad at it.....

Overall I wouldn't say this is more durable than a speed queen but for what you pay for this machine you will definitely not be disappointed. I also think what helps this machine out is the fact that compared to other high end machines it's relatively simple because I guarantee you if this was loaded with a lot more sensors and circuit boards I'd say this thing would have been dead 2 years ago. And it actually cleans the clothes not swirls them around in 3 inches of water so you have that too.

I have connected the washer plug to a on off plug switch====which then plugs into the wall socket. At the end of wash, switch plug switch off. This protects washer electronics when not in use. Minor power surges can kill components on board and in turn vastly shorten the life of the unit.

My house came with an amana washer like this from 2013. Almost identical to this washer except it had a manual water level switch. It also had a gray tub and a kenmore style flex vane agitator. It was about 5 years old when we moved into our house. It worked fine except it had bad bearings. The matching dryer had heat issues and the timer seemed to be going bad. We got rid of them about a year later and replaced them with the lg 3900 set. I’m glad we got the lg because it’s Lorain Furniture approved! They’re now about 2.5 years old and are still working like they did on day 1.

Another great washing machine video. After watching your original video post about this same model, it is not surprising this washer survived in a “commercial use” environment. We have had great success with top load washers. Wish we would have bought this model to replace our 2005 GE Profile WPRB8050 top loader when it stopped working in 2020 due to a failed transmission (never a service call or problem with the GE before 2020). In fact, that GE replaced a 1983 Hotpoint WLW1500 washer we bought second hand in 1996. The GE was replaced by a LG WT7305CW top loader which does not operate as well as the GE (IMHO).

I will never be convinced it is more reliable than a Speed Queen. It might actually be less expensive to own in the long run though, since you can buy several of them for the cost of a single Speed Queen. So when it breaks, you can just get another brand new one and be done with it. You would feel obligated to have a Speed Queen repaired, which, on top of the high cost at buy-in, can add up fast.

The one key issue that wears out and kiils Vertical moduler washers ,, when the tub seal wears out and leaks detergent and water down through the non servicable transmissions bearings , this water will often damage the shifter unit as well,, causing the sensor in the shifter to stop reading the spin speed,, we found that running a cleaning cycle with Washing machine cleaner on a once every 30-40 loads schedule , helps keep detergent and dirt from building up in the bottom of the drum that muck in the bottom of the tub ruins the bottom tub seal with time, this also helps keep corosion from this residue down. , keep an eye on the the tub seal and replace it at the slightest sign of even a tiny leak ,, The suspension Rods are the second wear point issue. we have a whirlpool VMW that has done 4 loads a day of towels for the past 8 years , with no problems .

when you posted the first review on this washer I left a comment saying how i’ve bought three of these for my rental units and have been totally happy with them! Well now it’s been 7 years since I bought those and i’ve still yet to have a problem reported. These are really decent machines. Again like I said before, all my tenants are elderly so I can’t imagine their clothes get that dirty or they wait till they have massive piles of laundry to do and really stuff the machines. So for light duty day to day basic laundry I really recommend these machines. Same goes for the dryers they’re gas and haven’t had an issue. I actually had a cheepoooo electric Amana dryer at home next to my speed queen for almost 10 years now and I LOVE it, dries fast as hell and gets HOT when you want it to and gentle heat when you need that. I did have to replace the rollers on it two years ago, they were making a lot of noise and wore out…for a whopping $20. TL;DR if you need a basic machine and you’re not rough on you’re appliances, can’t go wrong with these.

The gearcase are the big problems of these machines. If at least W-P could sale them at a decent price. In Canada the price of the gearcase is almost 60% of the price of the machine itself. Which make it economically non fixable. The rest are not that bad to fix. But I got to tell you there are less garbage then I thought. You have really good points. Also speedqueen are not that good. Repairman like to think they are like the old 2 straps washer maytag which they are not. But I think they are worth to fix compare to any new wp product. But the things you have to remember is even the good old stuff had to have repairs now and then. My parents had an avocado green Kenmore from the late '70s and during my lifetime they had to repair it twice before it needed to be replaced. It's possible it even had to be replaced before I was born. They replaced it around the 20-year mark with a Whirlpool direct drive. By the time they got rid of the house It was in It had to be repaired twice in a span of 13 years. The same goes for the late '70s avocado green GE fridge they had which had to be repaired at least once for my recollection before it croaked in O2. I agree that the new stuff isn't as durable and doesn't last as long, but the old stuff wasn't all guaranteed to last forever. You could still get a dud with the old stuff. And I've seen some of the newer things last very well even from brands that Don't have a bulletproof reputation. There's a degree of luck in all of it.

@simpsonauto850 Жыл бұрын
I know 2 families of 5 who’s LG top loaders are over 12 years old and both running near perfect. Both have had pumps replaced or service due to pockets not being emptied. They are used at least 5 times a week minimum I would guess and probably averages 7-10 loads.
@simpsonauto850
@simpsonauto850 Жыл бұрын
@@DylBuilder1 I think the 2 families LG would have done over 4000 loads minimum and are still going perfectly. I find the motors are strong but the suspension and pumps would be the parts to play up first. Then electrics. I find in my country LGs are fairly reliable.

I have this machine in my apartment. If the water level ever worked correctly. It would be a good machine. Auto sensing never worked from day one. Who wants to wash 3 pairs of jeans in 2 gallons of water. And 5 pairs of white socks in 10 gallons of water. 😮

Maybe this was luck. A friend had one that looked like a clone of this one and it did not last long. I think it had a problem with electronic parts - not mechanical issues, but it wasn't worth having a repair person come out to fix it.

THE ONLY THING I DO AGREE WITH. IS........... OUT OF ALL THE NEW TOP LOADERS THIS IS THE BEST. BUT THIERS SO MANY VARIABLES. LIKE IT HAS TO FILL ALL THE WAY UP AND THE MAIN SEAL NEEDS TO BE GREASED WITH RED STICKY GREASE. BUT ITS THE BEST NEW WASHER. BUT NO WASHER ON THE PLANET IS BETTER THAN A 80 SERIES STYLE WASHER

Speed Queen TC5 has original design that truly will last 20 years. They haven’t changed their classic design. They may need parts replaced over time, but they should go 15-20 years before failure if they are used one a day for that exact time.

Whirlpool Design 2000. It was desinged by a repairman instead of an engineer. The original idea was it had 30% fewerr parts would cut repairs by 30%. It cut repairs 90%. Why change design ?, could it be fewer rapairs = fewer sales ?

DUDE. It’s one of the best top loads that are still made and sold today. STOP trying to compare all of these old washers that haven’t been made for 20 years now and just watch the video and see that he is talking about a good washer that’s cheap for todays standard. Sure, those washers are reliable, but we aren’t talking about the past. STOP SPAMMING THE COMMENTS PLEASE.

Speedqueens are too much like an original maytag/admiral/frugidaire/electrolux design, very difficult to repair, so once a sq breaks replace it with 1 of these in the video or get a whirlpool timer switch direct drive washer
