I just bought this car 5 days ago. I'm 6'4" and have a ton of legroom and headroom in this car. Very surprising how comfortable it is. I bought it right on the spot at the dealership. Love the manual transmission. Even though it doesn't have a ton of horse power, it's a very light car so it feels quick. I have the exact same color combination and get a ton of compliments. You can have fun rowing through the gears enjoying the full powerband of the car.

Don't bother, the dealer markups are insane. I had my name on a list and the dealer contacted me that they were getting them soon. Then they dropped the bomb shell on me. They wanted to charge me $67,000 for a CORE trim GR Corolla. I laughed in their faces and demanded my deposit back.

(I know, in context it's not as powerful as a hot hatch with ~250+HP but it's also 10k less expensive and more reliable.)

Test drive an Xse today. Love the car...not the dealer. No Haggle Pricing. Wouldn’t come down one cent. CVT trans was fine. Pickup for a 4 cylinder was great. If they won’t haggle and come down a little...I don’t buy. And we all should wake up to that. (2 mos. later. I gave in and got a CHR. Had no choice. Like the CHR better).

with the rear seats folded down, I fit a whole un-hung interior door from Lowes in the car lol. It's got a decent amount of cargo space, but some competitors like the Honda Fit blow it out of the water as far as that goes
@OBrandt-i5c3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelavrie I used to have the Honda Fit 6MT in the past (2 different generations), and I concur. The FIT was designed by a genius. But unfortunately, Honda no longer makes the Fit and finding a FIT with a 6MT was an exercise in frustration, even though in theory it comes with a 6MT.

CVT in the new Corolla is actually really good. It has a physical first gear which makes it more durable, more deliable, and gives it better off the line acceleration.
@bliglum3 жыл бұрын
@@braetonwilson4296 Yes, among the CVT's the Corolla unit is probably the best of the best.. But it's still a CVT!!! I'll take the manual.
@bliglum3 жыл бұрын
@KZbin Censorship I'd heard the 6MT Corolla actually accelerates faster than the CVT. 8.5 for CVT vs 7.5 for 6MT (who knows on the GRMN model). CVT still gets 3-4 mpg better than manual though.
@bliglum3 жыл бұрын
@KZbin Censorship Tru that. And that's where Toyota comes in clutch eh? At least as long as you avoid their badge engineered models... 🤪

What did you end up getting!?
@siegekeebs3 жыл бұрын
Wrong - Android Auto was added in 2020 - not 2021. Also I highly recommend always keeping the iMT on because the engine throttle response is HORRIBLE, it's the best way to get a response from the engine for shifts. Also I contest that the adaptive cruise control is 'quite good' for the Corolla. Following distances are absurdly long and it will start slowing down if the car ahead of you is going slower than you when you're a quarter mile away from it.
@michaelavrie3 жыл бұрын
another thing I noticed is the lane departure warning is active, in this video it seems he doesn't notice? I have the 2019 model. I don't leave the lane departure on if I'm not on the highway (and feeling tired) because it affects how the steering feels frequently. The car will steer you back towards the center of the lane if you drift towards its perceived edge.

Those are solid cars, but I still want this as a daily. It's not as exciting as the other options but I already have a Celica GT-Four, MR2 Turbo, and a project A70 Supra in my fleet so I'm not bereft of interesting cars.
I’m having a hard time because I absolutely love the look of this car as a daily but I can get a Honda Civic SI for the same price (similar years but slightly more miles). I’m a Honda guy who had a 8th gen SI so I love running manuals just hard to justify spending the same for low power and quality as I see an SI higher in build quality..# Torn..
@pascutia3 жыл бұрын
I was so let down by this car. I read all of the reviews calling it sporty and fun to drive. The clutch is super numb, the steering’s dead, and it’s so slow. The engine makes its power super high up (which is fine), but the gearing is so tall. Test drove a 18’ Mazda 3 manual with the 2.0 right after, and the Mazda’s leagues better. No comparison. Either way, great video!
@bliglum3 жыл бұрын
Mazda 3 (new one) uses a cheap torsion beam suspension, this Corolla's Multilink setup is vastly superior.. Though, I'm sure the Mazda provides a bit more 'zoom-zoom', along with a touch more style... Can't go wrong either way really!!!
@michaelavrie3 жыл бұрын
I swapped the wheels to 18" wider aftermarkets and that greatly improved the steering weight and feel compared to the 16" stocks. Gearing is really tall and that's my main complaint as well--the lower gears are a real chore sometimes.
