DIVI is going to thrive after the block addon function. I've tried other themes and plugins. But I eventually found out that I love DIVI the most. And I am going to promote and educate people in China about DIVI with WP.

It's funny when Gutenberg was just on the horizon a lot of plugin builders pooh-poohed it and said it would never work, that it would never replace page builders or ever. It was obvious back then where Wordpress was going, and the wise people jumped on that train. It seems Divi and a few others didn't and are now running to catch up with FSE and all that. Is it perfect? No. Will it have all the functionality of these page builders? Maybe, but not yet. There's a real opportunity of using the core Gutenberg block ecosystem and making it easier to create sites, and providing extra things that Automattic will never do, specialist stuff. I could see people like Divi creating block patterns and styles for people to use, and extra tools to build sites that improve the rather basic editor. But you snooze, you lose. And I suspect a lot of devs were too busy posting -1-star reviews on the Gutenberg plugin page 😛

Gutenberg moves at a snails pace compared to Elementor, Divi, even Beaver Builder... and the latter seem more intuitive to me. Other than developers/web designers, I don't know any actual customers/clients who like Gutenberg.. mostly they hate it with a passion. So y'all here are cheering for something (Gutenberg) that provides a worse customer experience. My take. This is like some echo-chamber of insiders , ask your clients if they love Gutenberg as much as you/y'all do.

I guess the race is on for Divi then. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. If they succeed it will be good for both the block editor and Divi. Diversity is good and inevitably necessary.

I think the title of this video is too strong and the porpose is just to create buzz and audience. No, the Divi Ecosystem has so many passionate developers involved in it that's impossible to die any soon. There are tons of third party plug-ins that makes Divi a complete web dev suite like Divi Supreme, Divi Engine, DiviFlash etc. I'm a proof that Divi is slow for BEGINNERS who DON’T KNOW how to optimize the tool. I believe that Divi will be as fast as the newbies Breakadence and Zion but of course much more powerful thanks to its Ecosystem and solid foundation. Anyways, the web market is huge and there are options for everyone. One thing is for sure, Divi has millions of supporters, several communities, haters and lovers and entire organizations self-sustainable making money out of it.

Sorry when Gutenberg first arrived - I don't mean recently, the first blocks appearing - I think well before v5 or it was the first Gutenberg prototype plugin/editor betas, many moons ago - people were having EXACTLY this conversation, that the page builders lunch would be eaten by Gutenberg. It seems some of them didn't heed that warning and kept on doing stuff the old rather clunky way. Sucks to be them. I ditched page builders years ago with the constant upgrade issues, I have one site that uses it still but it's basically grandfathered. Whereas FSE and Gutenberg is a world apart from what that was like.

I don’t like to work with WordPress themes that highly rely on shortcodes as they are theme specific. To me, that’s a one-way road. I think those themes relying on shortcodes are for experienced users. It’s not fair to recommend newcomers to WordPress to start with Divi or the other themes of the same type. But, to me it seems natural Divi support the solution WordPress offers. Time will tell how they succeed.

If Divi rebuilt the frontend along with the backend, they'd have Bricks, which is available today. Me, I've moved on to Kadence and Cwicly. Page builders now feel "heavy" and over-complicated to me. Elegant Themes has a tremendous amount of legacy code to refactor. I think they are running out of time to stem the flow to simpler, Gutenberg solutions.

Spot on. Kadence is great. I favour GeneratePress at the mo as I have a lifetime dev licence and it's so fast compared to Divi. I think the simplicity of the Kadence and GeneratePress themes will win them many new followers.

I'll continue to use Divi because I love working with Divi, clients love Divi sites, and I'm just not going to be led around by the nose by Google or any industry 'consensus' telling me I need to use some blocks, Gutenberg, some less capable page builder, theme... or my pages need to have some 99-100 score.. because Google says so... Google.. we're being jerked around by Google.

It's a little optimistic to think the Gutenberg experience is going to rival the Divi interface, flexibility and capability any time soon for people who choose the page builder method. Gutenberg still seems very limited and particularly lacking when it comes to front end preview.

Gutenberg + a plugin like stackable, qubely or cwicly is WAY BETTER experience than divi and much much faster front. Divi is completely out of the game now and has a terrible reputation. Elementor, brizy or many other builders are way better too.

No, it won't die. Every builder (plugin/theme) has their own audience. And that will last for quit some time. But Divi needs to step up; but this step is a bit to big, complex and gonna take too long to convert their "bad" reputation. There are so many improvement points that need urgent fixes, all their development time goes into Divi 5. I have a support ticket for months (while issue is internally aware for quit longer), 2 seconds delay because of the way how DIVI loads images. And it's not that giant of issue to solve. In fact, it will instantly make Divi faster for every site. But no, Divi 5 all in. I would rather see them take smaller development steps and embrace their current customers; cause otherwise a part of it will be gone.

@@vaughanprint install the Query Monitor plugin and see the slow queries caused by the Divi function: et_get_attachment_id_by_url. It's doing what the function says: getting the image ID based on it's URL. Meaning: the query has to run through the whole library. It's absolutely ridiculous crazy, right? Divi does that for every image. Imagine that for a store with thousands of products and so images. In our case 15K products: that is 0,1 second extra load for 1 image. So on a 20 product category page: that is 2 seconds caused by this query alone. Divi should be ashamed to even keep this function any day longer in their theme. (by the way: i have not built that site; it is a take-over project)

@@vaughanprint okay, after intens code investigation i went with my result to Divi Support (again). Then they simply replied: maybe it's the "enable responsive image" setting. I hope it will die off. As well as the others. I've not had a single client yet move to us that isn't sick of Divi, and frustrated with managing it. My biggest concern is the hoop jumping we may have to do with a Divi upgrade. We have several dozen Divi sites, and it may require some tough conversations with customers. We have several *hundred* sites on the stock Wordpress editing environment, and in a decade of upgrades never had a problem - even going from the old editor to Gutenberg. Thanks for your work Jamie!

Same - well similar,. not for clients and not totally Divi but I used to use WP-Bakery on a site and I found it clunky and annoying, so have avoided page builders ever since. But I stuck to core themes and Gutenberg and while I can't say zero problems, - had issues with the changes in Galleries breaking ediitng old posts and my CSS code- I've not had the niggling major upgrade headaches I had with WP-Bakery. Every upgrade was stressful.

It's also annoying with its responsive screen devices, when you edit one, it's updating others also causing you to go back and forth typing the same thing. So many duplicating tasks. After using it for a few months, i regret buying it.

A better question is, Is Wordpress dying? Gutenberg is trying to overlay js (React) on top of PHP and it's a mess. Double coding essentially if you really want to do something out of the box with your site. Someone who uses Gutenberg blocks in the editor can't get dynamic content. The content always stays the same. At least Divi gives access to dynamic. Wordpress is just trying to sprinkle powdered sugar on a, ahem... I've stayed with the old template file system in my dev biz while learning about blocks. I open blocks to my customers according to their needs and tell Wordpress not to show them what they don't so they don't mess up the design or get overloaded by too many choices. My two cents.

I've been trying to move away from Divi to building sites with the block editor and have found learning block theme development to be an absolute brick wall so far. That's really what's keeping me using Divi right now. I've built a dozen or so websites with it and I find I'm always wanting to do things Divi doesn't allow for and building on top of it and the builder REALLY doesn't like displaying pages built with the Divi Builder that are also loading even small amounts of external CSS. Plus the longer and more involved sites I've built quickly become buggy. Divi is always forgetting saying thinhs like 'failed to load your saved layouts', or the builder loads to a white screen. I have one site where the builder now crashes the browser when activated in Firefox but still works in Chrome... no idea why! I'd love to get away from Divi have really struggled to match the functionality and knowledge with Gutenberg.

I feel that Divi’s new take on blocks will be a game changer for them. While there are some stiff competitors out there, Divi has the advantage of being tried and true and actually been around way longer. I feel that there are 3 thing’s that could take Divi to a new playing field. 1. Introduce a popup/modal maker without having to rely on a 3rd party plugin. 2. More form functionality to bring it up to speed with what the others are offering. 3. Introduce a custom loop builder.
