I remember being grateful for a long range tank on one of those inland roads down south from Boyup Brook on a public holiday. Not what I expected for that area.

I know, almost caught me out. What surprised me the most, was a couple of servos were like $1 more per litre. 😳

Not a good feeling when you miscalute fuel range then find closest garage shut. Been there done that. A very good lesson learned.! If you happen to get lucky in the Goldfields I am sure you will get the extra tank fitted.

Yep. But now someone commented on extra weight. I'll have to some figures first. Something I shouldn't considered but didn't. Cheers. 👍

Hi Mike, Computers are fine, but we only use the trip meter as a mileage guage and figures of 15 litres per 100kms for none towing, and 24 litres per 100kms towing. Our tow vehicle was a 76 series. Also our figures usually had 2-3 litres per 100kms as a safety margin. Regards Andrew
@TheOldFellasTravels11 күн бұрын
Yea, my 76 was a little heavier not towing. I'll take that on board and start resetting my trip meter each tank fill. Be good to get a comparison. Cheers

I had a 130lt long ranger fuel tank in the Colorado that I had. Now that I have the truck I’m back to 80lts so use to carry 100lts of diesel in Jerry cans but never used it.
@TheOldFellasTravels11 күн бұрын
That was one thing I was thinking, would the extra fuel just end up dead wait. That extra 40 litres of water never does. You can have too much water when your miles out in the middle or nowhere 😆

Gaday old fella, in my experience 76 ltrs is not enough I always carry 2 J-cans, and I never opted for the long-range tank as 2 cans always did the job for my needs + 15 ltrs in the diesel heater in the caravan can be used for backup, as regards to red and yellow cans red for petrol and yellow for diesel I have used red to carry diesel for many years with no problems, We should be heading out Leonora way late March We will keep an eye out for ya, Keep safe cheers Harry.

Okie, you've put the decider in, I'll grab a couple 20 litre jerries. Cheers. Yep, I'll be around somewhere between what I call the Leonora triangle. Leonora / Laverton/ Leinster. 😆😊

Hey annb. Make sure you have some spare fuel for Old Fella. Ha Ha

There are a few options. Maybe a 60lt oil drum mounted in your tray, and a good syphon hose. Or, I recently bought a 30 lt jerry off e bay. 2 of those might be handy.
@TheOldFellasTravels11 күн бұрын
I've done that previously. 👍

Olive yellow jerry cans for diesel. We have an MUX with the same problem with inaccurate readings, we've also thought about a long range tank, but with weight being an issue as usual, it's a hard one. It was good to hear your thoughts on it though.
@TheOldFellasTravels11 күн бұрын
Hmm. That's a good point you raised. The wait will be in the camper with jerry can and I won't need them when not towing. In view of my plans to put a 3/4 canopy on late this yr, weight is definable a considerable.

We fit a lot of long range tanks to mainly hilux go good I think they r 140 litres mike
@TheOldFellasTravels11 күн бұрын
Yea right. From what I understand LPH aren't quite as good in Luxies so makes sense.
@overlandturtle46309 күн бұрын
Gotta stop worrying mate. I would grab a 160 litre aux fuel tank and a couple of jerries and you'll be covered. Cheers. 🍻

Yeah, if they go to the trouble of providing a service but then there is no service, WTF? And there are options for pay at pump, open 24 hours.

Put a long range tank in. Your ute goes nowhere without fuel. You wont last long without the water you might sacrifice for fuel. Then your not heading back into town for fuel or water. Work your fuel on a worst case scenario.

Good advice. I currently run a 60lt bladder. I coul always upgrade to the 100lt pending on weight totals. I'll have plenty of time to nut this over on the lonely nights in the Goldfields, that are about to start. 🤣🤣🤣
