I just installed one and it wasn’t bad at all. The secret is to email Eve and ask for a FREE adapter plate. It is exactly what you need if you’re trying to mount it on to an electrical box. Worked really slick! It shipped from Washington and took 3-4 days to get. Highly recommend getting one versus trying to jury rig something else up. I’ll bet I did the install in less than 30 minutes and it looks great!

Hi Shane! Thanks for your fantastic videos. I've been following you for a while now and this is my first comment. Just wanted to say that I bought Eve outdoor cam and, to me is useless. I live in the countryside in a brick and stone wall house. Although my router was just 4 meter far from the cam, it doesn't work. I can only use it indoors or have it outdoors just as a motion sensor with light. So if you have big walls and well insulated house, I don't recommend this camera at all. I am going to try with eufy cam. I hope it'll be a better option. Thanks again for your videos. We'll keep on following you from overseas!

I replaced Ring cameras that were on extension cords. So I had already figured out where to plug them in. I modified the Eve cameras to add extension cords to them. Made the install much easier. Was pretty easy to convert to extension cords but took a fair number of parts like a plastic surface mount elec box and a water tight extension cord strain relief to fit in the elec box. Happy with it ion the end. Glad to be not sharing video and audio with Ring/Amazon.

haha no worries. Some smart switches might give you that capability. You can't get notifications from lights or switches in HomeKit or the Home app. But other platforms or manufacturer apps might have that capability. It'll be better for everyone in the future if smart home stuff stays on 2.4 GHz because interference will diminish, and these devices have fewer packets that need to be transmitted also.

Thought the install wasn’t too bad BUT that was because I converted the cameras into having extension cords. Connecting in place of existing light does look like a pain. Eve needs to have mounting kits for attaching to elec. box. I’m overall happy with the camera. Only issue is it keeps disconnecting or locking up and I have to unplug and re-plug it. I have pretty strong mesh wi-fi so don’t think that is it. Hoping a future firmware upgrade resolves this.
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
What did you use to convert it to an extension cord for power? I think a number of people might be interested in that. If your camera is disconnecting or locking up, assuming it's not a power issue, I'd bet on it being a wifi issue. I know you said you have a pretty strong mesh wifi. Since you're is using the extension cord, can you move it closer to your main router and test it out to see if you still have the same issue? I was having similar issues, even tho I seemed to have decent enough wifi at that location. I actually moved the camera to another location, closer the the router, and it has been 100% rock solid since then. I never disconnects anymore and live streams load up WAY faster now.
@ScotTheGr82 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneCreates You only need 2 things to convert to extension cord. First is a exterior mounting waterproof 2 gang electrical box. I got one from Home Depot that has threaded holes that you can plug up or use as needed. Box comes with the plugs. Second thing you need I happed to run across on YouTub in a video that shows how to make you own extension cord. It has a weird name, called a waterproof cable gland. It connects cut off end of extension cable to one of the box threaded holes. Gives waterproof connection. Rest is easy. Buy plastic cover that matches the elec box and drill holes in it for screws to mount the camera. Will need a third hole to let wires from cut off extension cable out to connect to the camera wires. Way easier to mount the light on the box and then mount the hole thing to the house. You buy and cut extension cord to whatever length you need. Suggest looking at Stud Pack KZbin channel to see how they make a custom extension cord. That is where I got the idea. Can find the cable gland thing onAmazon or McMaster Carr store. Hope this post isn’t too long.

Hi Brenda, you don't need to replace any switches, but you do need to replace the light fixture. Or at least that's how this is designed to instal. If you hold down the reset button (hole on the bottom) long enough the light will turn red and the product should factory reset. I recommend trying that if you haven't already. Aside form that, all I can say based on what you've said is that there could potentially be some network settings that are an issue. I don't know what your network environment looks like, but certain settings like QoS could be an issue. I usually turn that off. Also, the HomeKit Secure Networking settings (since your router supports HomeKit) can also be an issue for some people and/or products if you are utilizing some of those features.
