FYI, there is a small hole at the pivot of the tensioner, as it can be seen at 7:04, where you insert a small allen key (I don't remember the size atm) when it is aligned to a matching hole on the arm of the tensioner, in order to keep the tensioner extended, remove tension from belt and comfortably remove and reinstall rear wheel. Nice review btw. Objective and honest. Kudos!

Thanks, I did know about that actually although I do find that the position it puts the tensioner in isn't extended enough for my liking.

Great editing. Lots of different shots to make it interesting. I would agree with pretty much everything you say. Great downhill not so good uphill.

@@trailshreds I can see that. Very easy to make a POV video. Lots of work finding all those clips to edit in. Well done.

Gear box for the win! Love my next bike to have one.

Yeah, if my next bike won't have a gearbox I'm sure I'll miss it.

The guys at Zerode are super nice (if you purchase directly from them) and you can configure pretty much every single component! Especially 9 gears or 12 gears is possible on every build they offer! And a final comment on pedaling performance (writing this as a pretty fit woman): I own my Katipo now for the 3rd season and take it on the same huge tours like I did on my derailleur bike, with lots of climbing in the alps. I am not slower at all (says Strava), and I can keep up with my mates just like before.
@trailshredsАй бұрын
@shappi87 Yeah they are nice guys but I really only went for 9 gears because it was cheaper. Also I'm pretty sure that the seat angle on the Katipo is a bit steeper than the taniwha so that could probably help on the climbs but I think that pedaling performance is likely different for different people.

Great vid!! Will certainly get my interest if/when they bring out an eeb version 👍.
@trailshreds2 ай бұрын
Thanks Tony! I'm pretty sure they'll eventually bring out an ebike so that should be cool.
@taz800Ай бұрын
@@seniorsone5066 AFAIK, they are developing an e-bike based on the Pinion MGU. So, it will be belt compatible again 😉.

I found there is a significant break in period. When i change the oil i make sure to get 60cc into the gearbox or as instructed. Or in other words if i do not manage to quite get 60cc of oil out, too bad. I still put in 60cc. In addition it isn't until the 4th or 5th oil change that things begin to get "easier." I find hills are not as easy as on a well lubed traditional drive train. But wait, things get muddy pretty quick and the Pinion keeps going. No hangups due to the drivetrain. That's the tradeoff. You may wish a spare belt when travelling far, such as to Whistler but i have not had any failures.

Just wind up the suspension when you ride that drop off, might be bottoming out if its harsh. probably blowing through all the travel. Nice video buddy.
@trailshreds3 ай бұрын
I thought that too but when I look at the o ring it shows that I'm not using full travel. Might have to add some volume reducers.

Put some bone grease on the dropper post and it will work smoothly and just like it worked when it was new. This is from personal experience as I had the issue as well but apparently bone grease was there to save the day.

I'm pretty sure that putting grease on your dropper is pretty bad for it. I find that suspension cleaner is the safest and best working solution for slow droppers although it's only temporary.

For 10gz i should think its worth it. On the upside theres no dangly deraileur. So you can change gear while stopped and only not pedalling is that right. It is a nice ride. Just wipe the seat post now and then maybe getting a bit sticky from dust etc. 1 day i will get a nice bike im just old school.👌

I'd say it's probably as good as a normal bike just differently. It's better in some things and normal bikes are better in other things so it's really just a matter of preference.
