The MGU really interests me but having lived with a 26KG bike for the last few years I really want to move to something more lightweight because hauing the thing around physically is just a pain in the ass. I am looking forward to seeing some lightweight MGU options in future.

Bold statement at the start. But the size on these bikes is WILD! The SMALLEST has 468mm reach, 1283mm wheelbase. It's enormous. Can't see that being fun on a steep tight track or anything remotely alpine

Had 140mm headtube length on my Banshee Paradox V3. Wouldn’t take my Fox 49. Sold it because of it. You will never find a nice used front fork because nobody has kept the steerer long enough. I prefer 120mm headtube length. Gives you more options in the long run. You should compare it to a LMX bike!
@tehsimo6 ай бұрын
why not buy the fork and then just get a new crown? - or do you mean you eat too much into the stanchion regardless?
@rewind95366 ай бұрын
@@tehsimo The Banshee Paradox headtube was longer than the maximum headtube length allowed for the Fox 40 or Fox 49. New crown, old crown, doesn't matter.
@tehsimo6 ай бұрын
@@rewind9536 ah right and the cut comment was about a single crown fork? think I got ya now.
@rewind95366 ай бұрын
@@tehsimo I agree my comment was a bit confused. First it was about how frustrating it was for me to have a frame like the Banshee Paradox V3, with a long headtube (140mm plus headset) that would not allow me to try out a Fox 40. Then I am talking about this frame, that has an even longer headtube, and since it can't take a Fox 40 anyway, I am talking only about single crown forks. I meant that the customer would need to buy a new single crown fork, instead of getting lucky on the used market. This could be useful when the original fork gets too scratched or blow a seal. Bikes change forks all the time, it happens. I am guessing that changing crowns on single crown forks can be a bit risky, unless you are really good with cryo treatment that shrinks the metal.

absolutely, the plastic flexes, the piston membrane ends leaking and levers are weak.

Yeah, i had the same experience. You need to replace the lever body after 2-3 years of hard use. Mine have started to leak at that point. But with new masters you have fantastic brakes again for a few years.

This Bike Might Look Good and its interesting, But Just Far Too Costly For a Cycle at £12,000 !!! A Gearbox Always Has Drag As Lots of Gears are Always Turning So You Loose Power and its Too Heavy at Nearly 27Kg,I Have Had an E Bike With Rohloff 14 Speed Rear Hub and a Belt and it Was 26Kg and i Found the Belt Tension Looses Power and Gears Can Crunch and Make Noise and Found it Too Heavy and a Pain to Lift !!! Just Because Combined Motor Gearbox Has Just Started to Be Made Does Not Mean You Should Sell Everything To Buy One!!I Would Waite a Few Years For Others to Come out That Should be Lighter and a Lot Cheaper,I Would Think Shimano and Bosch Will Make Something Soon????
@astonmtb24287 ай бұрын
I think price is relative: this bike is literally half the price of my house, but then to people buying super cars and art it’s nothing for a new toy The gearbox will have drag, but that doesn’t really matter with a motor. 27kg is heavy, but all heavy duty parts. If you wanted to spend a fortune on light parts that will break you might be able to get it down to 23kg Waiting a few years for new products to settle in is always a good move!

You’re a tall fella (as is Rob) and yet this seems enormous with either of you beside this bike. Why’s that please? The angles and frame lengths seem ‘normal modern’ for a large frame, so that doesn’t explain it. Is it because it’s long and the head tube is so tall? Anyway, very exciting series, thanks 🎉🎉🎉

A lot of people in their thirties, forties and fifties are making bank in the current economic climate and if you think otherwise you are seriously mistaken. The kind of people who spend 11k on a Nicolai MGU are not the same people who work in low-paid jobs and struggle to pay out a few grand on luxuries. In every populous Western country there are many, many tens of thousands of people on high salaries with money to spend on their hobbies.

@astonmtb24287 ай бұрын
I did drop the ‘inverted comma’ hands. It’s cheaper than an 7000€ S-works Turbo frameset as it includes the complete drivetrain and cranks. The s-works has no colour or finish options and still needs a chain, cassette, shifter, derailleur to be equal to the Nicolai. But 7500 is still a ton of money in my book!
