Agreed. I see there only being 4 true Generational guys, hence why I only included those guys int he video. But the "Generational" term is thrown around way too much. Like Caleb this year... He is "Generational", he absolutely is not. He is very talented QB. Not a Generational Prospect.

He’ll probably have a just fine career in Jax, break franchise records, but not be the top QB in the game. That’s probably fine, but won’t meet expectations. I agree though, we don’t need to hype every single QB that is a top draft pick as the second coming.

Great video. I think we also have to keep in mind that Lawrence came in a year earlier than guys like Luck and Elway. When you age-adjust the start of their career, Lawrence looks even better. We don't even need to mention that the last quarter of 2023 he had a high ankle sprain, shoulder sprain and a concussion, but played because the Jags were so close to playoffs -- insane! A lot of, honestly, casual football fans have some strong takes on Lawrence, but everyone who charts this stuff as a matter of profession thinks Lawrence is a stud. I think the biggest thing about Trevor Lawrence is his dedication. After he was drafted he said that he has other interests beyond football, that football isn't everything to him (or something like that). And that's the thing, you have to be all-in when you're going to be a legend like Elway, Peyton, TB12 - the sun rose and set for football to those guys. TB12 was 157 when he retired, and now he's broadcasting...in talks to be an NFL owner. Peyton does his MNF thing with Eli, he's involved in youth camps and all that. Elway was the GM of the Broncos until recently. I'm sure they have other interests as well, but football still seems to mean more to them. Lawrence may just need more time to marinate, but it could be that he's just never going to be as invested as the greats. I see Lawrence following Andrew Luck into early retirement more than I see Lawrence become one of the greats.

To be honest, Trevor Lawrence isn’t the answer to a quarterback desperate Jaguars team that is this bad. Also, it’s not Trevor’s fault to blame, Shaad Khan is a terrible owner and doesn’t know how to make the team win football games. He hired Trent Baalke and he’s still a scapegoat, which didn’t do the team any favors last year, they hired Doug Peterson as coach after the disastrous Urban Meyer experiment and it seemed to be a slam dunk since he won a Super Bowl as coach for the Eagles, but once again, Shaad Khan cares about the money and not Trevor Lawrence. No one can judge a supposed "generational" QB this early into their career. With that said, Elway WAS the Broncos and their offense. Wins and losses do not measure just how good certain players were and that holds true for their records early on in their careers. Also, Elway and other QB's played in a time when QB's weren't put in a bubble and protected by the rules and the officials. Those QB's took a beating, week in and week out. Defenders were allowed to play defense, sometimes far too much defense. Receivers were mugged half of the time and those QB's had to do a lot more with a lot less help from the officials. Sorry, it's still too early to tell but Trevor Lawrence is at an advantage just because of the era he has begun playing in. Imagine some of these modern QB's playing with the hits and pounding of years ago? Everyone likes Patrick Mahomes, myself included, but he (literally) runs to the officials on any play that doesn't go his way, and all of these guys are almost held to rules of 2 hand touch or flag football. Heck, the "Pro Bowl" has actually gone to 2 hand touch. That's still embarrassing to say out loud. Yes, a player can't control when they come into the game, but you then should be able to expect more from them, being that they did come in at a different time. Trevor Lawrence will have some good seasons but he is not looking like the "generational talent" many people thought he was going to be.

The biggest problem for me, talking about Elway was he played on a team in a conference, that if you removed the Raiders, the conference flat out sucked. You go through the Super Bowls from 84-97, the only question was "At what point in the first half will the game be over?" (exceptions being the Bills 91 and Bengals 89). The NFC Championship game was referred to as the 'Real Super Bowl'. Elway got smoked during his first couple of years. A lasting memory in the minds of all Raider fans from early on was, the Raiders had knocked around Elway so much that when he came out of the huddle in the 2nd half, the defense got in position and then stood up pointing and laughing because Elway had lined up behind a guard. He benefited early on from being in a garbage conference, with mostly 2nd rate qbs, or good qbs on lesser teams (Marino in Miami losing 38-16 to SF as an example). Lawrence is in a conference with several very solid qbs, and the NFC has some as well. He's just not as successful; Jacksonville is not as good an all-around team as KC, Baltimore, Cincinnati, probably Buffalo. Miami is on a positive trajectory, and Houston may have the next greatest qb in football (we'll see as time goes on). So, at best, Jacksonville may be the 9th best team in a strong conference (previous 6 plus Pittsburgh, Cleveland, maybe even San Diego with their new coach). And the NFC has at least six teams, probably more, that are better than Jacksonville as a team (SF, Dallas, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Detroit). Is Jax a better team than Seattle, NO, or Indy? -- all were 9-8 last year as well.

yelling and screaming doesn't mean anything. Joe Montana wasn't a yeller or screamer and he led the 49ers just fine, as a coach Tony Dungy never yelled and was successful. Lawrence went to his coaches and spoke up for his guy and let them know they needed to put him back in. He's shown he'll stick up for his guys. Wow dude, you're really trying to say that; because his stats are similar to Manning and Elway in their first few years, he's really a generational QB we're just looking at it wrong. By that metric, almost every QB has been a generational QB, we were just looking at them wrong. I also think that you're using generational wrong, but that's more semantics. As far as Lawrence goes. He's in the top half of QBs, but I still think the Jags made a mistake drafting him. IMHO, they should have traded that pick and gotten more strength in other positions. They still had the QB that took them to a superbowl on the roster at this time. They weren't losing games because of QB play. I guess GMs know more than average fans, though.
@JustAnFootballGuy
@JustAnFootballGuy 6 ай бұрын
Well thats why I used Generational moments. The key for the whole video which some have gotten confused by is comparing Generational Prospects. The term Generational is thrown around way too much. Every other year there is a Generational prospect. But to me, Generational means to be a almost perfect prospect, that has a very low chance of failing, the kind of prospect you only see once a decade. I guess I disagree with Lawrence being a mistake. It's the best move the Jags could have made.
@foddersfollies7494
@foddersfollies7494 6 ай бұрын
@JustAnFootballGuy we can agree to disagree on whether or not the Jags made the right decision. I think Gardner could have put the Jags as a perennial playoff contender had they invested into using the draft to get WRs and lineman. The same basic issues you're saying are holding TL back. As far as your generational moments, it looked like you were using comeback victories as your metric. TL has what 6 comeback wins in his first 3 seasons. Jay Cutler had more than double that number. I don't really think that you consider Cutler a generational QB. But again, I may be wrong about my interpretation of your arguments, but imho, TL can't really hold the bootstraps of Manning or Elway. He was statistically worse than those guys in College, he was just lucky enough to be one of the juggernaut teams during his college career. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure that Lawrence played with more NFL talent in college than Manning and Elway combined.
@jamesmarshall6619
@jamesmarshall6619 5 ай бұрын
@@foddersfollies7494 Statistically he was worse than Manning and Elway in college? That's ridiculous considering Lawrence completion percentage is greater, had a better touchdown to interception ratio, just about every single passing metric he's superior to Elway and Manning and he even threw more touchdowns than both despite the fact he played three years compared to Elway and Manning who both played four years. Now, times are different so passing statistics have to be taken within the context of the times but your comment of him being statistically worse is just flat out wrong. Also, Manning had some great talent around him at Tennessee, he wasn't throwing to bums, they even won the National Championship the year after Manning left, Manning's senior year they played Nebraska as Nebraska was going for a national championship. The year Manning got drafted Tennessee had 3 players drafted in the first round. From 1997-1999 Tennessee had 2 receivers drafted in the second round and another drafted in the first round so he was throwing to talented guys as well. Elway on the other hand, he did not have near the talent of Manning or Lawrence in college, that is true.

I think everybody expects new guys to come in and light up the NFL like Mahomes, Lamar, or Allen, but that’s just unrealistic. His performance in the 80s was better, but the division was even worse then, save for the Raiders during his first two years. He’s had so many throws into ridiculously tiny windows where I instantly think, “well, that’s an int “ then it’s actually a catch, you see it from another angle and have no idea how the eff he got it in there. Then, other times, he just plays small. Part of it is Pederson’s maddening insistence on letting Press Taylor call plays. He’s terrible. Him and Ridley never seemed to get on the same page. I thought that was going to be huge. I think if he didn’t get hurt halfway through last year, we are having a different conversation. @@JustAnFootballGuy and the fumbles? the problem is he is not learning from the turnovers in general. and the afc south is definitely not getting weaker. I genuinely believe he is not a generational talent, nor worth the money he just got

I think the biggest problem surrounding Tlaw has been related to the lack of consistent talent surrounding him. Realistically he only had Kirk and Engram for the last two seasons, Ridley didn't even come close to performing at an adequate level for a WR1. If you watch the film back, Trev of course has an overthrowing problem, but his receivers get hit in the hands a lot and drop the passes. I don't think it's valid to write him off yet after his monstrously dominant career from HS to Clemson. Regardless, love the vid!

Thanks for leaving a comment and love man! I would agree. I like Kirk but he is a good slot only, engram- hot and cold, and Ridley was simply a let down. He needs that true #1 guy. I think the jags should trade for Higgins. They got that connection.

Lets also not forget going into that draft people had Manning and RYAN LEAF YEAH NFL FLAMEOUT RYAN LEAF both as potential number one overall picks and both labelled generational talents some even saying Leaf was the better pick because of his physical gifts and higher potential upside

Most people don't talk about the fact that QB success is dependent upon their organization. The Jaguars, under Amir Khan, have been a poorly-run franchise. The man hired the worst coach in NFL history and has seemed mostly concerned with moving his team to London. The Jags only have 2 more years to win a Super Bowl with Lawrence on a rookie contract. After that, it will become harder as he will command a higher salary - especially if the Jags make a run with Lawrence. I think T-Law must move to a different, better-run franchise in order to reach his potential.

As a lifetime jags fan, we were 8-3 without his injuries, including mediocre wr play and bad offensive line play. Press Taylor took over and called rudimentary offensive schemes where fans in the stadium knew what the play call was. Still overcame everything and played well, was injured beyond belief and in a baker mayfield way with the browns, forced himself to complete the season giving more fuel to the fire for people wanting to clown him. I'm still high on him with the weapons we do have as long as press isnt calling plays.

@@JustAnFootballGuy , i dont think thinking in terms of position ranks matters. davis, kirk, thomas, and engram is a solid group. as long as he adds playmaking, then that alone helps their offense. kirk is a possession guy, and davis is a deep threat. if thomas can be a med route guy, then they got what they need

First 3 years Luck: 95 TD’s, 14,787 Yd’s, 55 INT, 33 Wins Trevor: 63 TD’s, 12,276 Yd’s, 44 INT, 21 Wins Not even close. AND Trevor is in a much MUCH more pass heavy league than the people you compared him to.

@@JustAnFootballGuy So did Peyton and Elway. The only QB who has done it consistently at a high level without an elite receiver is Brady and Mahomes. All other QB’s… Marino, Moon, Young, etc. Had elite receivers. The player makes them Elite. TY most likely won’t make the HoF and isn’t Elite.

I think if Jacksonville would get some good (moreso consistent) O line help and a true #1 receiver, he would be much better just by virtue of having better help. Him being injured constantly from being beat down from the lack of a line made him throw out much faster, rushing poor passes instead of holding it a half second longer for a better look
