Please do a vertical pellet smoker comparison review.

Good review. Since it’s a pellet smoker and they don’t produce a lot of smoke flavor I’d like you to test adding a wood chunk above the fire pot. Thank you.

I bought a Grilla Grill Silverbak after your review last year - It’s absolutely amazing. I’d love to get my hands on one of these Mammoths, but would honestly be overkill for my needs. As always, I enjoy the reviews, keep them up!
@TheBarbecueLab6 ай бұрын
Glad to hear that you're enjoying the Silverbak! I know we love ours, and there were times where we were cooking for friends where I wished we had more room. The Mammoth more than makes up for that extra space I was wanting. One of these days, I'm going to load it up with pork butts and see how many I can fit on there. I'm thinking 20 minimum probably? Sounds like a fun test.

We bought the Silverback in 2018 and have not had any problems at all with it. Looking at possibly getting the Mammoth by next year, thanks for the information, Kevin

The 2300 Pellet Pro vertical smoker at Smoke Daddy, made in the USA, blows this away.
@BrianClarkson7320 күн бұрын
I have the vertical Pellet Pro by Smoke Daddy and love it. Their build quality and support blow this away. I do like the water pan, heat deflector, and controller from Grilla - Smoke Daddy currently lacks an app linked controller.

Great video. Thank you so much for the details. Would it be good for a turkey or two? I am hosting Thanksgiving for the first time and need to feed 60+ people ( I have an oven also)
@TheBarbecueLab3 ай бұрын
Great question! You could absolutely do 2 turkeys in the Mammoth without any problem. Just take out 1 or two shelves and you’ll be good to go. Plenty of space.

I was an early adopter of Grilla products when I bought a Silverbac back in 2017. It’s a tank but unfortunately their quality control and customer service has fallen off significantly since the company sold a few years ago.

Can you do a video comparing vertical pellet smokers?
@leslieschiltz34545 ай бұрын
You can adjust the true internal temp with the app, mine reads 10% warmer than actual. -10% for the RTD works well.

Been waiting a while for a good review on the Mammoth. I've been looking for a good quality pellet smoker to go along with my offset. I like the size of the form factor, but I'm a little worried about build quality and reliability over time. I hope that you plan to give us a long term update on it in the future.

I’m curious about the burn pot feature which allows you to burn chunks/chips- is there a difference in taste and bark when used? How often would you replenish? Thanks! That question alone would mean the difference between giving this a go and not. The comment about it going below 180 would make it a sure thing. If I can cook and hold in this with better than average pellet smoke flavor? Game over.

Loved the video. Is the controller water proof. I have had bad weather move in during cooks before.
@TheBarbecueLab6 ай бұрын
I haven't had any problems with the controller being in the rain. It rained on me twice during the cooks for this video and didn't give me any problems. I wouldn't purposefully submerge the controller or anything, but rain hasn't given me any problems so far.

I have the Grilla Grill Primate, and your review had a lot to do with my decision to purchase. I haven't used the gas grill only the griddle. It's nice to have that option from grilling however, I'm not a fan of gas grilling. Thanks for this review. Do you have any plans to review Spider Grill Huntsman or any of the RecTeq grills?
@BagwellVA6 ай бұрын
Great overview! I’ve got one arriving in a few days. I noticed your’s did not have a pellet window on the back like the earlier versions did. Did Grilla give an explanation for the change or make any other design modifications you know of? The pellet hopper rubber gasket seemed new as well.
@TheBarbecueLab6 ай бұрын
I asked Grilla about the pellet window being gone, and they said that it was for moisture reasons around the pellet hopper. I can only imagine what they'd have to do to remedy having someone get water in their hopper because of that window over time, so I'm guessing that's what led to the change. Was it more convenient with the window? Yep. Do I feel better about leaving my Mammoth out in the rain now? Also Yep.

That makes sense. Glad to know they’re constantly improving their products. This video made me feel very confident I made the right call - looking forward to firing mine up when it arrives. Thanks again!

Great review. Been looking for a vertical but disappointed it only goes down to 180. Looking for one that would work for lower temps or a holding cabinet at times. I see other ones on the market that can go lower.

I would love to use this beast as a warming cabinet. Thats such a great idea.

@TheBarbecueLab I really don't know why the mention of smoking sausage. 180° is way too high. They should integrate an electric element for low n slow with a cold smoke chamber.

Would you prefer this or the Trager ironwood that you also did a review on ?
@TheBarbecueLab5 ай бұрын
That's a great question. If you're talking about the Ironwood XL, that grill is double the price of the Mammoth. The Mammoth has much more cooking space, but each shelf will drip juices on the shelf below it. You're self basting meats that way, but some people like the clean offset style look of nothing dripping on their foods from above. That's one factor to consider for sure. They're both set it and forget it, so they're very easy to run. The way I cook, I'd take the Traeger for everyday backyard cooking for the family. For the times where I'm cooking for larger groups and using lots of foil pans, The Mammoth wins hands down.

@TheBarbecueLab6 ай бұрын
@@mastermachetier5594 it really depends on how much quantity you’re wanting to smoke and if you plan on grilling as well. If 3-4 pork butts or 1 brisket is all you plan on cooking, Silverbak is a great fit for that. If you also want to grill steaks and chicken thighs, the Silverbak will do that. If you want to do 20 pork butts or 8-10 briskets, that’s the Mammoth for me.

True, I heard too many damaged deliveries of the XXL pro, but I think the Grilla is more efficient in pellet use. There is also the smoke box vs adding chips on the deflector, which is the winner?

If possible to compare which is the noisiest, read a lot that the mammoth can be very load compared to others, like the xxl pro

Don't do it for Camp Chef XXL Pro. You'll encounter issues and cheaply made product that doesn't insulate well. I donated mine and bought a Mammoth - Mammoth slaughters the XXL Pro. Only thing the Pro offers is the ability to do wood chunks and chips and charcoal whereas Mammoth only does wood chips and chunks.

How easy it is to change pellets?
@TheBarbecueLab6 ай бұрын
Great question. There's a pellet dump at the bottom of the hopper, so it's just finding a low enough sided vessel to dump your pellets in. A foil hotel pan would work great as long as you're dumping 20lbs of pellets or less. More pellets than that, I'd probably buy a special tub to release pellets into like a low sided rubbermaid bin with a lid.

I ended up selling my GrillaGrill Chimp, I just couldn't get over that the smoke flavor was non existing. I'm gonna have to continue using my custom reverse flow for all my cooks.
@TheBarbecueLab5 ай бұрын
I’m not sure a custom reverse flow and a pellet grill can compete in flavor. I think where the Chimp shines is in convenience and portability.
@scott0828655 ай бұрын
Ok so its double walled. Great but it doesn't look like it was very thick and would be very efficient for those of us in northern states where it gets cold. Yes. I like to smoke in December in Michigan. Everyone will say go buy a weld blanket at Harbor Freight...blah blah. Nope if I have to do that then why buy the product? Right now, I use my Primo XL in December. (4 inch ceramic walls, holds temp wonderfully in December) Down side is it doesn't have the capacity for a larger or long cooks. So still on the look out for a reasonably priced smoker with some capacity that performs well in the cold climate to add and/or replace one of the cookers in my collection.

owning several vertical pellet smokers. I dont see anything special about this one. pitboss 7 series is $200 cheaper, is almost the exact design, has a 5 year warranty (amazing customer service btw) camp chef is smaller and more expensive but also gives the closest thing ive ever seen to a real offset smoker. i dont see anything that makes this stand out.
