People have good reason to be scared. Not all makes are equal. Just to give an example a KIA will not be as receptive to tuning as a Honda.

The Elantra XD and Tiburon GK community gotta give props for sure. It's definitely extremely hard to find aftermarket support for it. Usually end up modgepodging various other manufacturers to make it all work. Theres also a rare Alpine supercharger kit that was made for these four cylinders which is surprising!

Not sure I ever want to build the engine on this car.. might need to the way I drive it. Clutch started slipping recently as it gets hot.

I currently own the 05 gls sedan and i love it. more than my 02 accord that i had a while back (still a great car, but elantra is lighter and more fun to drive). it handles better around the corners, and throwing a short ram on with proper heat shielding and thermal coverings made the mechanical throttle feel like an on off switch for accelerations. The stock suspension on it really isnt too shabby, but im going to upgrade to some ksports and throw the 19mm rear sway bar from the tiburon on it (yes it fits, the tiburon is basically a hyundai with a different body and engine, coilovers, end links, rear and front sway bars, rack and pinyon, and more are all able to be placed on the elantra from the tiburon). You can get the things to handle like a go kart, and the beta block engine while not the best, is a 16 valve dohc inline 4. the beta block is actually capable of handling moderate boost at 6-9lbs for a considerable amount of time without seeing any mechanical failures so long as the internals are properly upgraded. Its a pretty decent little engine, and while you wont find any premade blocks, you could probably pretty easily get a billet block made for it if you have the funds. Theres alot of factories producing performance blocks for 16 valve dohc inline 4's. The stock wheels are actually smaller than the limit as well, ive seen people go as far as 20's with pretty minimal fender flaring, and 18's to 19's depending on the year model and stance. comes with disk brakes all around. stock tranny is a Mitsubishi 4 speed with a 5th non selectable overdrive gear for freeway travel. Brakes are good on this thing with how light it is, stops easily. Wheel can practically be moves with a finger or two and not actually gripping it but just pressing on it, makes quick responsive actions very easy to do. very maneuverable vehicle. Gas tank is metal, which is nice because its more sturdy, but gets dirty more easily (should be fine so long as you use the proper fuel grade from a reputable source). Alot of intake parts and induction parts are almost plug and play interchangable from accords and civics as well. Im running a specter short ram meant for a civic (as i said earlier) on mine. unfortunately things like cat backs, down pipes, manifolds, and throttle bodies have to be custom ground or made. you cant find the same level of aftermarket support as you can with civics and cars of similar popularity for obvious reasons, but thats kind of what makes it cool, its not the same route everyone and there grandparents have already walked down. Theres even a small but loyal community dedicated to the Elantra XD (generation name) that has a forum online. www.elantraxd.com it is to this day still very active with some members having been active since 2004/5. Never thought what i intended to be a regular daily driver to become one of my favorite project cars to work on, but the thing kinda rocks. Its low, stable, and fun as all hell to drive through twists and turns. The gls sedan doesnt even look like a hyundai either, looks more like a mini boxier version of the crown vic. with my current light mods and set up i get about 30-34mpg depending on the nature of the trip, which is fucking amazing with the world we live in right now. to anyone who has one, make sure you borescope your engine around 160,000 miles. Thats their life expectancy rating (many live much longer) but you want to be sure that you arent seeing any build up or heavy damage to the sleeves, or piston heads. Wouldnt be bad to have someone pull it apart, or pull it apart yourself to check and make sure all the gaskets and everything are good. At the minimum obd2 it and check the oil every 3k miles after 160k just to be sure you dont see sparkly bits (metal flakes). Luckily the engines are cheap if you need a new one, under 2k for one with cvvt (variable valve timing) and decently low mileage. (not counting shipping and handling+ taxes and fees) thats currently the boat im in right now, looking at a cvvt equipped replacement engine with 22k miles to get rid of my hard starting issues (pretty sure previous owner drove like and ass hat and now the engine has trouble starting and hitting idle when cold, as well as after pumping gas. Thought it was the pump, changed that, no good. maybe housing, changed that, no good. maybe lines needed to be vacuumed. no good. check for leaks. no good. injectors: working fine. sparks: fine multi meter to test wiring: fine. Obd2 only throws code for slight evap leak i have (annoying but not an actual issue) Wtf.jpeg when i spent over 800 dollars on replacement parts, worked for hours, and then payed people to do the work i didnt have the equipment for, only to realize my engine is probably just one thats been abused. Hell, atleast after i get the new sway bar, new coilovers, and new engine it will practically be a brand spanking new car. Eventually i plan on either k20swapping and getting it barred (so i can get the right ecu, do exhaust swap, tranny swap, and then do a carb compliant turbo build). Or, going the hotboy route, upgrading internals, and throwing an edelbrock supercharger on her and seeing what she can do. keep in mind all of this sounds like a blast, and it is, but its also expensive and painful as hell to get to a presentable and serviceable level. Since i started working on this thing its been one thing after the next. its been like that every single time i have ever started a project car to date. its never finished, its just further along than it was.

Used to have a 2002 Elantra GT. Also had the rev hang. I researched it and was told it was normal so I didn't argue. I kept my Elantra for 6 years. Their issue is rust with winter salted roads. The 2.0 "beta" from 2001-2006 (Up to Elantra Touring in 2011) is an ultra reliable engine. Granted mediocre in performance. That Elantra is super clean and looking great with those mags. I always liked the look of the 2001-2006 Elantra GT. I found the hatch and even the dash gave it a bit of a saab look. Pretty sure Hyundai of those days were aiming for that.

Don't know if you'll end up seeing this. But hit up BDR Racing Development. The bloke that runs it makes a special IAC restrictor plate that is very common in the Tiburon community. And it eliminates pretty much all rev hang and idle issues. Since its running the same 2.0 as the tib it should work. Hit them up.

Former Tiburon (I/H/E and a bunch of rare KDM parts) and Genesis Coupe owner here. The reason why you dont see the Elantra and Tiburon modified much is because A) drivetrains cant hold power. (these are cornering machines) B) our aftermarket is virtually non existant (gotta get mostly everything from South Korea) C) owners are mostly broke people They are great machines i love my tib, back in the day i had my tib with a Seoulfulracing ECU tune able to to hit 8100RPMs N/A it was awesome. Been addicted to my Tiburon for years and i just cant let it go.

I had an '04 GT sedan, my wife had the hatch. I blacked out the H badges on mine, too, and she thought I was an idiot. I think it's just a better look with the matte black grille.

The 1st to 2nd gear grind at redline is a common issue. It has to do with Hyundais pullstyle clutch and the infamous rev hang. the easiest way to fix it is to get an IAC restrictor plate.

this car is super fun and reliable, I Had a Spectra 08 the Wagon, Who has the same Platform and Engine and the G4GC its a sturdy Engine, Not a fast one but a Capable and reliable one
@tylerjeffrey91396 жыл бұрын
Rev hang is caused by the ECU keeping the throttle plate opened ever so slightly for a set duration of time when you lift throttle for fuel economy reasons

You say “a tiburon in disguise” like the tiburon is something to be impressed with 😂 lol you’re funny. I did love that car in nfs though
@kbdadriftking6 жыл бұрын
Mustlehard I actually enjoy my Tiburon I happen to have a v6 with the better looking interior. Mine has been super reliable. And it's not quick by any means. But it gets the job done...I took it to 140 before
@collinmyers5506 жыл бұрын
Mustlehard definitely a good first car, especially a good car to learn to drive manual in, not too quick, but really clean and a good car for its group with the plat forms of mitsubishi eclipse, civic si, accord coupe, v6 mustang, v6 camaro, 350z, its a good competitor, and can be modified to look really clean, just a car with a bad past and people that give it a bad name. Like an underdog
