Is the Insta360 One X Still Worth It?

Having used the Insta360 One X since late 2018 I've been wondering whether the camera is still worth buying in 2020.
The One X was way ahead of its time when it came out and it still holds up well today. There are other cameras that can shoot better quality video but are they so much better to be worth spending the extra money?
In this video I'll be going through the pros and cons of the One X and taking a look back at my best One X footage over the past two years.
What do you think of the One X? Is it still worth it in 2020 and should Insta360 work on a new version?

Thx 4 this video. I love that Cam and I still use it alot! The quality isn't as good as a GoPro 7 or 8 but it is - like u said - a 360-cam. I'm still very happy with my One X, but I would like to see an upgraded version. The One R is interesting, but it's not a replacement for the One X.

the one x is just about perfect for my needs (360, form factor, size, etc) and i would buy an upgrade (improved optics, codec, etc) in a heartbeat!

I consider the One R a response to GoPro's line up rather than a replacement for the One X. So I am hoping for an upgraded One X with better camera and build quality.

one x is mostly out of stock or "no longer available" here in US on sites like Amazon and Best Buy, so maybe a Two X is coming??

Having had my ONE X for over year, I have blow the dust off it and started to use it again. I forgot how good it was. The pain was getting the footage into a normal timeline however after updating all the software like the desktop and iOS app they have really improved the process. One of main worries in the beginning of using the camera was scratching the lens but I have used it on the beach, in a forest and the lens is still useable. Maybe INSTA360 could look into making the next model with replaceable lens along with the usual upgrades like battery, sensor etc.

I still have the original ONE and didn't upgrade to the X because, although the footage is slightly crisper, the slight bump in quality really wasn't worth the extra money to me, but also the original ONE is much smaller/less conspicuous when you're holding it than the X, something that's really important to me for my hobby of recording rollercoasters. I really hope Insta come out with something as small as the ONE that has better fidelity next.

I like the 360 One X and I think it is still worth getting but it’s out of stock. Is it discontinued now? I don’t think the One R is selling well, which is why it may have been (possibly) discontinued by Insta therefore forcing you to buy the One R.

Good last review. I'm lso thinking ybout a 360 cam but i think a main thing for the r is the waterproofness ant the better battery life. And if your battery swalls on there could be a danger of major damage. So try to put the battery out and get a new one.

Of course it's viable. Specs are same as the One R except h.265 and waterproofing. You can even use One X videos in the One R app.

I would like the One X to bring 4 or even 8K to the table. I don’t have a need for waterproof features. I think Insta360 could up their game with night recording and target the new One X for that. Still like the slim profile, proficient stitching in-app, and being able to edit using the One R app.

With you on that, the improvement of other consumer class cameras has not been enough for me to get a newer model - not even the amazing screens. I love the X for its size and dimension and all my needs of a screen are fulfilled with the mobile. I see my future in an advanced OneX...weatherproof and optional higher resolution and a dedicated app with the features of the OneR app. Btw. refrain from editing from the camera, it modifies the footage and this might render the file unreadable by the OneX app.

I also had the battery stuck inside due to swallowing. I asked insta360, they recommend to keep it outside. And they send me a battery replacement for free, despite I bought at launch and not directly from them.

your battery was overcharged and no Li-ion battery should be stored at full charge and if you can remove the battery discharge it to 70%, disconnect and store in dark dry place... like that should last more then 1000 cycles...

I use the INSTA360 for GSV. I have found a lot of limitations in this camera, due to software. I have found a bug on the app, I have informed INSTA360 support, but they are not willing to update the software. The quality on GSV is sometime very bad, in transition to dark area .... so for my use I think this is just a toy .... I underline that INSTA360 ONE R has no GPS capability ..... so it is focused on camera applications. Nowadays I don't understand this choice. Take care of yourself from CoronaVirus ;)

One R has horrible stitch line when doing HDR bracketing using Affinity Photo and Photomatic Pro. Their support is aware of issue and I hope working on a fix. They sent me a beta of Studio today but it did not help.

Until the appearance of the new Insta360 Studio 2020, I used a software version compatible with my computer. After updating I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE Insta360 Studio. I've used my One X in light rain and it's also done very high speed on my motorbike... all without a case! Its still hanging in there after about 14 months but the mics have been battered by the wind blast and the last time I used it I seemed to have noise in the video related to the internal gyro (I can't even tell you how much vibration/shaking I've subjected this poor camera to). I don't fancy the One R though... I really like the form factor of the One X and if they can't go full 8K in this body style I'd be pretty happy with 7K! Or maybe 5.7K again but a bigger sensor and better tech for noticeably better image quality. If my One X dies in the near future I think I'll replace it with the same model again.

Please...please....please.. If you're using an iPhone (and have not used Android when you rate the Insta360 camera software) say so prominently in the heading. With most Android devices, Insta360 mobile software is unusable.

None of these reviews cover customer support and it's absolutely awful. ~40 emails and over 8 months later they say they couldn't resolve the issue even if they wanted to because it's been over 8 months since purchase. Seriously dodgy company-avoid.
