Is The Intrepid The UGLY Duckling of Star Citizen?

The Intrepid is cozy, has personality, while the Spirit is just a tube. Other ships needs to pick up on this. Feels very Retro-Futuristic, "Star Wars"

In lore, the Terrapin has such thick armour, it makes it nearly invisible on radar AND restricts its heat management ability. To manage its heat, it'd have to open its armour every so often to radiate / vent the build-up away, but choose its timing to not give itself away :) That's the main reason you have deployable and retractable armour on both variants ^^

The caterpillar's cockpit is also off centre and that work's. the hab area work's great and 8 scu cargo is good but would love to know the range the ship has .

With the size 4 weapon upgrade that just dropped, the asymmetry is much easier to swallow.

That gun increase in physical size really balances it out, I mean it should look big and imposing for being the center point of attention Side note it should have been a bespoke weapon that looks massive but have the dps between size 3 and 4 for balance reasons/pricing

The thing about Intrepid isn't that it's ugly. It's simply undergunned and underprotected. What it needed was a second S3 weapon _or_ increasing the size of that solitary gun (which has already been done), _and_ adding a second shield generator.

No no, the thing is also that it is just ugly. Aside from that the design is illogical. Makes no sense. Crusader ships aren’t chunky like that. Asymmetric designs are already a big no in general when it comes to designing anything that will ever be flying through atmosphere at any speed. It’s not a fighter and doesn’t have a massive gun. And yes, it just looks ugly. So what exactly was the reasoning behind this? I doubt it was thought through much. Just wasted potential, especially considering the C1 and C2 exist as great examples of how to do crusader ships. Not sure what they were thinking with this.

For me, I could live with a single S3 if it wasn't so ugly to look at. The interior is really nice as well, but god is it an ugly, blocky lego ship. Feels like they made the external shape in Space Engineers and just ported it to SC.

If they kept the shape but made it less boxy and more sleek, with more curves, I could see it be an actually interesting looking ship, but as it stands It looks unfinished. Like a LEGO toy ship or something.

As a crusader fanboy this ship STINNKKSS. Its meant to be a "starter" ship but its highly under gunned for any ship. (The ares is an exception as its a very purpose built ship) Very poor use of the interior, too many individual rooms and storage compartment and how to get things into said space is pretty SHIT for its size compared to other starter ships. It is very limited in everything for a ship thats meant to be able to do a lot of things. Its a starter ship that isnt good for starters...

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", yes. But whoever designed this clearly doesn't have eyes. It's like those cars that only look acceptable from one angle. Simply placing the gun in the middle of the cockpit and the winglet/aerospike would go a long way to making it less hideous, let alone all the redesigns others have proposed already. Interior is neat though, that I'll say.

It's the size of a titan?? It just ditches the traditional way of storage with side ones, you get an engineering bay and a hab that's sick with the same storage as said titan, however the titan is dominant in load time and dps

Hey bro. I definitely don't think the cockpit being centered has anything to do with it considering one of people's favorite ships of all time is the millennium falcon which is definitely not centered. Part of it is that the cockpit sticks way out. Another part is that the focal point of the ship is the gun and it's only a size 3 which just makes it silly. It's like if the ion only had a size 4. Or the inferno obviously. It just makes it seem really goofy. If they put a size four or five on it I'm sold. Otherwise it's just there for me to laugh at and wish they had done better.

To be fair, the Millenium Falcon is symmetrical other than the cockpit, (if that makes sense). Same as the Ares. I think the issue is that none of those ship has any symmetrical shape at all. It’s all out of position making it look very odd.

You can like it if you want, but for me personally the fact the cockpit is SO far off center is a bad design choice. Its unique, but not unique enough like the alien starter to make it worth it? Plus those tail fins don't look like they'll do anything aerodynamically.

Yeah I think that’s the key bit, the completely off centre cockpit is throwing people. If we look at the Millennium Falcon cockpit, that’s no where near the middle. However, the rest of the ship is symmetrical so it works very well. Maybe that’s the issue here. But I’m not a designer or at 3D artist so what do I know really 🤣
