I think your review for the Jackery 1500 is spot-on for campers, and like you said, for outages that last for just a few hours. If you seriously needed it to supply limited power for a home in an extended power outage from a storm, EMP, national emergency, or other survival situation, the unit might not have enough capacity to keep many things running in the house. Keeping a normal-size refrigerator going will severely limit the power remaining for other power users in the home. The typical home refrigerator user around 700-800 watts while running, plus an additional 2000 or more surge watts as the compressor turns on. Once you drain down the internal battery, your maximum use will be limited to the amount of power you can put back in from the solar panels, which are generally two or four panels at up to 100 watts, if in full sun. That would likely total 180-360 watts of incoming power each hour. The FAQs say that you can use it at the same time you are charging it. The instructions say that although you can use it for power while charging with the solar panels, they don't recommend it because it will reduce the life of the unit. Even if you did use it while charging, you'll have to keep a check on the power remaining in the unit's battery. Something like an electric heater using from 900-1500 watts per hour or a minimum-size room air conditioner could be used off and on and maybe alternated with the refrigerator. The length of the cable between the panels and the power unit is limited. That can present an inconvenience if you put the main unit in an place protected from possible bad weather while trying to keep the panels in the most direct sunlight. The number plug-ins would probably not be much of a limitation in a survival situation. With all of this said, I think the Jackery 1500 with 400 watts of panels, is a good choice to possibly allow a family to "get by" in a survival situation without having to spend enough now to be able to go full solar with the huge number of solar panels and batteries. One more point. The Jackery works just fine with the less expensive panels, including those from HF. You have to get the correct adapter to connect the panels to the Jackery Generator. An adapter and a 10 ft. cable costs around $15-20 for each panel on Amazon.

We have hurricanes alot here in Louisiana. Last one we was out of power for 6 weeks. It was over 100 degrees also. I think this would be alot better than having 20 gas cans trying to find a gas station that has gas. That's one thing people don't think about. Down here people get shot over gas when the storms hit. Great video 👍

Laura and Delta knocked out our power here in central Louisiana on the west side of Catahoula Lake for weeks in total. I think I had a heat stroke. I have 11 solar power stations now for a small chest freezer, dorm fridge, fans, lights, and WIFI if it still works if it happens again, plus I`m building a 3.8 kwh emergency solar system for a tiny window air conditioner so I can cool off and cool my camper down. During the hot part of the day I can run it (if it isn`t cloudy) and the solar panels will keep the battery from running down and at night I can put the inverter on a timer to cut on and off long enough to keep the temps in a tolerable range without draining the battery too much. I`m spending the last of my lump sum back pay for my disability case to do this. I can`t afford to run a gas generator much or a car so I`m stranded here and have to have emergency electricity for a bit of cooling and some heat if a Winter storm happens so I can save on propane. It`s an investment to get 5000 to 7000 days of power before the lithium battery is worn out. I already have most of the panels I need and the rest cost only 1600 bucks. I think that`s a great bargain and it can save me money in the future on my bill and maybe a lot with the rising costs of energy tight now. On SSI a savings of even 20 bucks a month is at least money for some extra food or a bottle of vitamins. But knowing I have about 7 kwh of power each day when it`s sunny is peace of mind.

Some apartment complexes don't allow residents to have anything that has an open flame, (the exception being cigarettes outside the buildings). So, movable solar on the patio/balcony would be the only option other than wind or crank powered electrical. Nothing could be mounted to the structure nor left outside visible. (Not just because of the risk of theft, but because the complex forbids it.)

Well, most solar power stations are like miracles to those of us who face a lot of power outages and especially during hurricane season and they`re great to have when camping. You can even cook with the smallest power stations with a 12 volt 100 watt mini rice cooker about 5 times and they`ll run a USB fan for days after hurricanes to prevent heat stroke. I have high quality power stations and cheap low quality ones. I get a great deal of use out of them when the power fails. My freezer stays frozen, my WIFI stays on, I have lights, a fan, and a way to still cook or heat water in a cup for instant coffee without breaking out the propane. And I can run an electric blanket if a Winter storm hits again.

Everyone talks about Life Cycle on the Jackery being around 500, but my question would be if you use this for power outages and a little in the Summers for camping, how many YEARS would Lithium batteries last?
@baneverything55802 жыл бұрын
500 to 900 full charge/discharge cycles before losing the top 20% of it`s capacity. If you don`t drain it completely or charge it over and over past 90% this greatly extends the charge cycles. And never charge it to 100% and store it. Drain it to 60-70% before putting it away and keep it out of hot cars and direct sun because heat degrades these batteries expecially bad when fully charged and so will trying to charge it in freezing weather without warming it up first. LifePo4 batteries are much better than lithiun ion and far safer.

They sell NiMH and 18650 battery chargers that are USB powered plus power bricks can be charged and these can power a little fan during the day while charging a power brick to run it at night.
