@@JoshStribling - //I would be careful not to conflate "eternal torment" with "everlasting life".// Good. But nobody's doing that. What we're pointing out is that not only are "eternal life" and "eternal punishment" opposites, but that "life" and "punishment" are being contrasted in this passage. THOSE are the opposites. The wicked, according to Matt 3:12, 10:28, and 25:46, will not live, but instead will die by having their body and soul destroyed like chaff is burnt up in an unquenchable fire. //Immortality (existing forever) and everlasting life are two very different things. After all, What is "eternal life"?// No, they're not "very different things". They're not simply identical, but immortality is granted as part of eternal life: immortality means to not die or perish, and it's promised to those who "in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality God will give eternal life" (in other words, eternal life grants all of those things); while the same passage says those who disobey will pay the wrath they've accumulated on the Day of Wrath, and that in the end they will "perish" (notice the distinction between "immortal" meaning unable to die or perish, versus "perish" meaning, well, perish). Notice, however, that immortality is what the righteous "seek" and what they're given. It's NOT what everyone gets regardless of whether they seek it! //John 17:3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."// Do you actually think this passage intends to make "eternal life" not mean "eternal" and "life", and instead only make it mean "know Jesus and God"? Surely not. This isn't a redefinition: it's explaining HOW Jesus gave His apostles eternal life (that is, how he granted them the ability to live forever in the resurrection). //Will the devil and his angels (which are immortal and WILL be tormented day and night for ever and ever), have "eternal life"? No. They will have shame and everlasting contempt.// If they're alive now, and they will not die (which is what "immortal" means), it follows that they will continue to live forever. //Daniel 12:2-4 "2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.// Notice that they will awaken to non-everlasting shame, and everlasting contempt. The shame means they will feel that all of their sins are known and judged by the community; and the contempt is what the righteous will feel when they consider the wicked. Notice that the next verse explains how the righteous will pass on this contempt for wickedness, by teaching wisdom. Matthew 22:30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." This specifically applies only to "those who are found worthy to attain to the age to come and the resurrection ... and cannot die anymore, being sons of the resurrection. Matthew 25:41 "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" And going into the eternal fire doesn't make anyone eternal. Mark 9:44, 9:46, & 9:48 "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." A quotation of Isaiah 66:24 to show that's the place "where" the wicked will be thrown -- into a place where worm and fire devour corpses. But notice what they are -- corpses. Revelation 20:10 "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." Even taking this completely literally, it's only about those three figures!

I've been thinking the same thing! The only thing I think that seems to differ is that some people will be burning and tormented for longer than others rather than being instantly destroyed. Luke 10:12, Matthew 10:15, 11:24, talks of some people getting something more/less tolerable sentences at the judgement. Matthew 23:14, Mark 12:40, Luke 20:47 all talk of receiving a "greater damnation". Revelation 20 speaks of those being judged for the lake of fire are judged according to their works. This plus those other verses leads me to think that those without the blood of Christ on their account will be given a longer sentence if they have committed more sins. Eventually you'll fully perish, being void, but that's after you receive a greater damnation according to your sins. Of course, this is just what I've put together. I'm not entirely sure about it yet. And honestly, it doesn't really matter. I'm not going to the lake of fire, and it's our job as the children of God to help others not go either.

@@newday3265 There is another way to determine the meaning of the word eternal or everlasting. In English these words mean that the fire will go on forever, but in the Greek it has a different meaning. Dr. Basil Atkinson explains it this way. "When the adjective aionios, meaning everlasting is used in Greek with nouns of action it has reference to the result of the act, not the process. The phrase everlasting punishment is comparable to everlasting redemption and everlasting salvation, both Scriptural phrases. No one supposes that we are being redeemed or saved forever. We were redeemed and saved once for all by Christ with eternal results. In the same way the lost will not be passing through the process of punishment forever but will be punished once and for all with eternal results. On the other hand the noun 'life' is not a noun of action, but a noun expressing a state. Thus life itself is eternal."

@@vincec727 - I strongly disagree with Basil Atkinson on the meaning of the word "eternal"; in both verses mentioning that in Matt 25 it clearly refers to the permanence of the thing stated, that it will not end. However, you're making an unjustifiable assumption that because the fire and the punishment is eternal, that therefore the punishment consists of torment. In fact Matthew has explained repeatedly, MANY times, that the punishment of the wicked is to be utterly consumed like chaff in an unquenchable fire (Matt 3:12), like tares and causes of stumbling in a furnace (Matt 13:40ff), to be destroyed body and soul (Matt 10:28), and so on. To substitute torment here is to import a claim utterly foreign to the book this verse is in -- not because there's no torment for the wicked (clearly there is torment for them at the end of this present temporal age), but because "eternal punishment" calls out the part of the punishment that's NOT temporal, which is the destruction, utter consumption, and death everywhere else explicitly mentioned.

I've been a Christian some time and have always struggled with the concept of hell and eternal torment or torture. Then I hear this alternative teaching on hell and I wonder if their teachings could be right. And if I'm honest I'm hoping they are. If there is another possible alternative then that would be great news right ? Why would I still want to think people are going to eternal torture when there might be an alternate way of looking at what scriptures are saying, Why would I not rejoice at hearing this. Just because I'm going to heaven, which by the way I didn’t deserve in the first place, I'd still love to hear that there is no one burning and being tortured in hell forever and ever. That they have instead been destroyed and perished, that they are instead no more. If there is any chance of that being truth, then why hold on to such a barbaric view ? I think it would say something about myself if I'd rather hold on to that veiw knowing things might be different. You might even think, do I even care if people burn in hell forever or not. I've heard some rather disturbing things concerning some people's belief in hell, describing in detail visions that they think they've seen. And it always strikes me as if they are obsessed in the things of hell. Do they have irrational fears about such a place ? I do personally believe this all comes from a fear of the unknown Where there is blanks we tend to sometimes fill them in with the most frightening things our minds can imagine.

Rev 20:10 is written in greek, the expression "forever and ever" is actually "in the ages of the ages" (this might mean a long time or also a spiritual place and time). The vision the writer had about the punishment in hellfire just made he feel it would last for a long time. However, notice: after that the dead will be judged according to their works; since God is just, this means some will burn for more time than others. Notice that then, after the judgement, and I suppose after the end of punishment time, even death will be thrown into the lake of fire, so that nothing may ever die again. Second death after judgement is still a death, and we all know what death means.

Eternal hell is a false doctrine in my opinion. Adam sinned and was told he would die. Paul says the wages of sin is death. Jesus died for sins. If the substitutionary atonement Jesus paid was eternal hell then He would still be paying that price. It's not that people cannot pull prima facie support for eternal hell. Same for annihilation. It's that these doctrines create one theological pretzel after another. For instance, it is Good News for all people, not a good opportunity for some. Paul says mercy triumphs over judgement. Many Christians believe the exact opposite. David says God's mercy endures for the ages. Does it? Let's look a few alternative voices. John the Baptist called Jesus the Savior of the World. Full stop. There in no concept of a partial Messiah in Judaism. In Judaism the Messiah is cosmic. John said he is the propitiation for our sins and not ours only but the whole world. Luke states all flesh shall see God's salvation. That's very specific. Paul says God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself through Christ not counting men's sins against them. Am I supposed to jettison all these verses? Hopefully I've made one thing very clear, a doctrine of eternal hell does not form a harmonious whole with the text. It can't. The loudest voice in Christian eschatology is by far ultimate reconciliation.

@@rebekahrathe9248 Well most Church people BREAK the Commandments of God that you cite by resting on "Sun"-day instead of on the Sabbath of the LORD as clearly detailed in the Fourth Commandment as the SEVENTH DAY i.e. what the Gentiles call "Saturday" after the god Saturn, and their un-commanded 'holy day' "Sun"-day which they invoke on their lips after the worship of the "sun" rather than in honour of the Son, which God, the Bible, Jesus or the apostles NEVER once commanded to do, or even to hold a day in veneration of the resurrection, or His birth. That is hardly the "patience of the saints," when many true saints have been faithful to obey God's Commandments and honour God's Holy Sabbath despite the "Sun"-day dogma of the Gentile denominations who ignore and break His Commandments 52 weeks a year by keeping a counterfeit 'Sabbath' on "Sun"-day, instead pf being on the nartow path of truth and obedience.

There's a reason why Yeshua talks about the fiery furnace where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, and I don't believe He told the parable about the rich man and Lazarus for no reason. There's a place you really don't want to go. There are two kingdoms, and you choose which one you want to be in. The doctrine of annihilism only came about in the 19th century. As one person put it, we owe an infinite debt to an infinitely holy God. If we don't accept His payment on our behalf, then we have to make the payment. How long will it take to pay off an infinite debt? It might be better if we focus on being thankful for His free gift of salvation, obeying Him, and not being lawless, so we don't wind up eternally separated from the One who truly loves and cares for us.

They are still there after a thousand years later when Satan is thrown in. They didn't cease to exist. Revelation 19:20 and 20:2-3, 7, 10 "And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.... And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time. ... When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, ... And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, *where the beast and the false prophet ARE also **_and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."_* Two humans thrown alive into the lake of fire (second death). They are *still there* over a thousand years later. We are told they _will be_ (future tense continuing after Satan is also added to the mix) tormented *day and night* ...and just to make it crystal clear the words 'forever and ever' are added on after that. Two humans along with a fallen angel, in the lake of fire being tormented day and night forever and ever. This goes along with the warning we are given in chapter 14 about those who take the mark of the beast and worship his image. Revelation 14:9-11 "...If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, *HE ALSO* will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." *HE ALSO* will drink the wine of the wrath of God which is mixed FULL STRENGTH... And just to make sure we don't take away from this warning we are warned again: Revelation 22:18-19 "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; *and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy,* God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, *which are written in this book"*

But when I explain my position about hell and use many scripture to back up that hell is not a punishing or torment that last forever while we are alive enduring this pain. All I got in response was that it is just my opinion and do nothing to search scripture to validate my stance on this subject. So, now I just remain silent on this subject and let it be because no one will listen and will still accept the fact that hell is an eternal punishing that last forever. Tell a falsehood long enough and it will be made into a truth that will never be changed until Christ returns and sets the message straight

REVELATION 14:11 AND THE SMOKE OF THEIR TORMENT SHALL RISE UP FOREVER AND EVER, AND THEY SHALL HAVE NO REST DAY OR NIGHT.. SOUNDS LIKE ETERNAL TORMENT TO ME..
@WilliamTanksleyJr2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it does, and I think that was intentional. But notice that "the beast had 7 heads" sure sounds like it's not human -- but I doubt you stop with that "sounds like" conclusion, right? When you read that passage, and the whole book, more closely you find that "smoke rises forever" is INTERPRETED to mean the complete and permanent destruction of the thing by means of torment, compare Rev 19:2 to Rev 17's end plus Rev 18 as a whole (really, those verses should have been a single chapter). Likewise, "day and night they have no rest" in Rev 4:8 is the only other appearance in this book of those Greek words -- so on closer examination that phrase here refers to the ones worshiping having no rest (when they're worshiping the beast). And finally, "if anyone worships ... he himself will be tormented" sets the time of the sin and the punishment as present sin/future torment. But "the smoke of their torment GOES up" is present tense - it begins at the same time as the "if anyone worships" happens. The same for "the ones worshiping have no rest," it's present tense. (Notice that some paraphrases change the tenses here, be sure to check a reliably close translation.) This passage as a whole is about the beast-worshipers giving unceasing worship to the beast even while the announcement of their tormenting punishment is being proclaimed (i.e. the smoke of their torment going up even in the present age while they're worshiping). It also depicts their corporate sin in, as a community, worshiping the beast in the same manner as the heavenly worship that ought to be given to God. It's centered on the future certainty of their torment -- but that future torment, unlike the smoke from it, isn't eternal.

Take a look at the following verses: Matthew 25:31-46 (Emphasis on Verse 41) “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels…” Next verse indicates it’s eternal: Revelation 14:9-11 “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” “When the plain sense of Scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore, take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, and literal meaning unless the facts of the immediate context, studied in the light of related passages and axiomatic and fundamental truths, clearly indicate otherwise.” David L. Cooper, The God of Israel (Los Angeles: Biblical Research Society, 1945), iii.

First: the plain sense of "eternal punishment" is not answered until you can answer "what is the punishment for sin?" Matthew as a whole gives the answer many times before Matt 25:46 -- for example, Matt 3:12, Matt 10:28, Matt 13:40ff. All of those agree the punishment is a painful time leading to complete destruction, like chaff burnt in unquenchable fire. Second: do you actually follow your own advice? What's the "plain sense" of Matt 10:28? Do YOU believe the fearsome thing about Gehenna is God's ability to destroy body and soul, or do you make some kind of excuse that "destroy" doesn't mean to actually destroy? So also with Rev 14:9-11. There's no call to take "plain sense" in a book that speaks of a man as having 7 heads that are 7 hills and 7 kings; it's clearly symbolic. But EVEN IF you insist on "plain sense" there, you still don't get the eternal torment of anyone except those people who are living on the earth at the end of this age. Why do you feel the call to _assume_ that what's said only of them applies to literally everyone ELSE from Adam to the little grandma across the street? This verse simply cannot mean what it does not SAY!

One key point is to realize that the torment of their SMOKE will ascend forever and ever. The passage does NOT say that THE WICKED will be tormented forever and ever. Rather, the wicked will be burnt up in fiery plagues, and it is their smoke - evidence that the fire has done its work - which ascends forever and ever. Smoke results from something burned. This indicates that they were consumed, and that all that remains is smoke. We also read in Malachi 4:3 that the ASHES of the wicked will be under the feet of the righteous. Psalm 37:20 tells us that the wicked shall “perish” - “into smoke they shall vanish away.” It is not the punishment of the fire, but the result of that punishment, which is being addressed in Revelation 14:11.

I see one of two possible thoughts on those verses. First, it is possible that one exception to sinners being destroyed are the ones that worshiped the antichrist and got the mark of the beast. Perhaps they do suffer eternally with the fallen angels. The second possible way to read that is its the smoke that goes up eternally long after the souls have been destroyed.

I hope you're right. There was a video I watched a few days ago that said people would be "destroyed" not "annihilated" in that fire. He then gave the example of the old wine skin which new wine was poured into, which "destroyed" the skin, but didn't "annihilate" it. Meaning the skin still existed, but was useless. That was there case for people burning forever in hell. It doesn't make any sense to me that God would allow people to suffer an eternity. Hell is cruel anyway. But the idea of people burning forever without actually dying - I can't think of anything more sadistic. I wish hell did not exist. I understand why it was created, but wouldn't wish it on anyone, and hope no one I have ever cared about, ever thought about,, ever met in any sense of the word and beyond, ever ends up there.

It means exactly what it says. At the end of chapter 19 we see two humans (the beast and the false prophet) thrown alive into the lake of fire. In chapter 20 we see that after a thousand years _they are still there_ and will continue to be tormented day and night. And just to make sure we understand that this torment is ongoing He adds the words 'forever and ever'. Some people believe what God wrote in the Revelation and some people don't. God goes on to warn us in chapter 22 not to take away from anything written in this particular book. Yet on this thread I see a lot of people taking away from the words of this particular book in chapters 14 and 20. They say the other scriptures (not in this book) say something different. They don't. But regardless, we are warned not to take away from the words of *this book* in particular...chapters 14 and 20 are pretty clear. God bless.

Very interesting and educational video! Many Christians today who never took a philosophy class, still, at the end of the day, defend PLATO. His ideas about eternal souls being punished eternally preceded the writing of the New Testament by centuries. Also, Plato lived centuries before Jesus (Yeshua) appeared. Hellenization embedded his ideas in Jewish and Gentile "apocryphal" writings before the New Testament was written. Many of his ancient Greek ideas still persist, as many Christians do not pay enough attention to the Jewish context (as well as Greek and Roman) of the Bible. Plato's ideas about the soul and afterlife are often erroneously defended as early Christian thought.

Hi Jason. The Bible takes place within us. The ones that have no rest are the ones that have not done the works. We have six (metaphorical) days of (spiritual/internal) works to perform. If we complete these works, we enter God's rest. The instruction for these works are in the first six churches. The message of the seventh church is for those that have skipped over these works, which is EVERY Christian that follows the teachings of Paul instead of the teachings of Jesus. Judas symbolizes our Iniquity (he bought a field with the reward of iniquity). Jesus symbolizes the Truth that has been crucified in our heart because of this iniquity. Jesus didn't die for (in place of) our sins/iniquities (as religion teaches). Jesus died for (because of) our sins/iniquities.

@@IsaacNussbaum 'Destruction' is the Greek word 'olethros' which doesn't _just_ mean destruction (which some people on this thread are indicating) rather it means: ruin, death, destruction, punishment. Throw a piece of paper in a campfire and I guaranty it won't last as long as the fire itself. The twisted logic needed to defend such a horrific doctrine is pretty obvious. Read the Bible for what it actually says. Death, destruction, consumed, no more and perish are all used to describe the fate of the wicked. Everyone will be raised/resurrected in their own order: Christ the first fruits, then those who belong to Christ at his second coming, then those in the final resurrection/Great White Throne Judgment. The Lake of fire is called the second death (Revelation 21:8) and the last enemy that will be abolished is death (1 Cor 15:26) So the second death does not last forever. Also the word everlasting and eternal is almost always (unless referring to God himself or Tartarus) Aion-Aionios (age of ages, or age-abiding not forever) Romans 11:36 says that all things came out of Him, and through Him, and ALL will return back into Him. The word for "all" when looking at the root of the word means "the all" which is every particle in the universe. So everything will return to God. Also, 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in His own order: Christ the first fruits (the ones who attain to the first resurrection (Rev 21:6) ) after that those who are Christ's at His coming, then comes the end. It goes on to say everything will be subjected to God, "so that God may be ALL in ALL". The wicked that are destroyed is the wicked nature (the flesh/old man) that is within men. In the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE will bow and EVERY TONGUE will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord TO THE GLORY OF GOD. Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Seems to me God will be destroying the evil that is within mankind and He will save everyone through His judgments Isaiah 26:9 For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. The Lake of fire burns with "fire and brimstone" - brimstones comes from the word sulfur, which is a purifying agent. So the fire is meant to purify, not only destroy. It destroys the evil within, but God's judgments will teach righteousness and restore. I could go on, but I digress. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read.

The second death is a judgement. Can we agree on that? Which God is the judge. And He judges according to His law, correct? Unless He is lawless, He abides by His law. So what is the standard for judgment according to God's law? Matthew 7:2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. So if what someone measures out will be measured back, how can the measurement be infinite? So is this hyper literalizing the text? 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. Seems to me, its talking about everyone, since Adam's sin passed on to every man. Notice it's a direct comparison As all die in Adam "so also, in Christ all will be made alive". I agree the wicked will not live anymore. The wickedness will be destroyed in everyone, and everyone will be made righteous. So there will be no more wickedness. Don't you know you and I have wickedness within us? We sin. Therefore we are as guilty as the wicked, because if we sin at all we are guilty of all. Clearly, maggots are associated with death and decay-BUT... What's different about the maggot Christ mentions is that it "will not die." eternal torment. Also: Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. sounds like eternal torment doesnt it.

That the worm will not die doesn't mean the people on which the worm is won't die. In fact, normally in the Bible people who have a worm are already dead (the ONLY exception is Herod in the New Testament). And this is specifically the case in Isaiah 66:24, which by no coincidence is the passage Jesus is quoting in Mark 9. It specifically says that those thrown into that valley are "corpses". That their worm doesn't die, therefore, means that the worm is eating their dead flesh - which doesn't cause suffering, but decomposition. Rev 14:11's language of the people who "have no rest day or night" doesn't say it's torment that causes the restlessness. The context is clearly the worshiping that they're doing; and in fact the only other occurance in Revelation of "day and night they have no rest" is Rev 4:8, speaking of the worshipers of God. This passage is therefore speaking about the sin of worshiping the beast restlessly, rather than speaking about the punishment for doing that (which is torment with fire and brimstone, but without a statement of the duration of that torment).

Revelation 14:9-11 KJV ..if any man worship the beast..and receive his mark..[10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be TORMENTED WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [11] And THE SMOKE OF THEIR TORMENT ASCENDETH UP FOREVER AND EVER: and THEY HAVE NO REST DAY NOR NIGHT, who worship the beast.. and whosoever receiveth the mark..

Hi Lex - I really enjoy your videos - They have greatly opened my eyes to many things I have incorrectly taught in the past. I want to teach God's word as He meant it. QUESTION: I have seen in many of your videos that the unbelievers will be "destroyed" in the eternal (or everlasting) fire. Not tormented eternally. Help please to clarify Revelation 14:9-11 Where it seems to me to say that one who takes the mark of the beast will indeed suffer torment "day and night with no rest".
@kangawallabimbiroo31702 жыл бұрын
Read verse 11 (revelation 14:11) it never says they will suffer forever, it says “the SMOKE of their torment will rise forever and ever”
@kangawallabimbiroo31702 жыл бұрын
In the literal translations it says “to ages of ages”
@kangawallabimbiroo31702 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that they will be tormented with “no rest day and night” UNTIL the “age of ages” which is when they will be ultimately destroyed, to be no more
@WilliamTanksleyJr2 жыл бұрын
@@kangawallabimbiroo3170 - a more subtle point is that "no rest day or night" is only associated with worship, never with torment; this phrase in this passage has the subject "the ones worshiping the beast" (most translations change the grammar here, and some change to a future tense). This is parallel to -- in the sense of using the same Greek words -- Rev 4:8, also about continuous worship. I think this tells us nothing about the duration of the torment; only that the worship is frantic and that the punishment will be permanent. I think the parallel in Rev 19:2 strongly indicates that the torment will cause their destruction, just as Babylon's torment causes her destruction in Rev 18.

@@WilliamTanksleyJr That's good! Thanks - I see it now - hopefully correctly. They have no rest day and night "those that worship the beast". I was associating the no rest day and night with the punishment where as it is associated with while they worship the beast.

So when Jesus talks about those who will be outside the kingdom, weeping and gnashing teeth, is this a brief moment (a few seconds) of weeping and gnashing before being consumed by the eternal fire? Not much of a judgement to the wicked, and not much justice to those who have been wronged by the wicked.

There is no justice or judgment for the wicked I learned in life. Maybe the judgment is that the wicked conciousness is wiped out for ever, as if they never existed??? The lake was created for the devil and his angels, beast and false prophet.
