Is the Mezco Batman 1989 Worth it??

Keaton is still THE BATMAN for me and probably always will be, but does Mezco meet the standard? Come hang out as I show you the ins and outs of this really expensive figure! Lots of clips from the original 1989 film as well!

I hear you but the powder was used to protect it while in the box. Perhaps they should have provided a spray in a small container but they did say that the powder will disappear eventually. The capes can be customized also. I also gleamed that Shinestu grease helps to protect the body also.

Yeah I know it's supposed to disappear, but I have a hard time imagining it will end up being nearly as nice as the results I've seen with Armorall(or other similar products) by just waiting for the powder to disappear after enough play. I do think a small spray bottle would have made a big difference. And yeah the capes can be customized, but I feel like this is priced as a premium high end product so it shouldn't have to be customized with a better cape(that I've already seen at least one person on IG make an amazing one). I'd feel differently if the price were lower.

Use protect 303 to clean off the powder and it will totally change the suit from a dusty look to a shiny black look

I saw someone on IG use Armorall for a similar result, but I think I do have some Protect 303 somewhere... So thanks for that! Though I also don't think we should have to do that ourselves considering how much this thing costs. But still it'll go a long way in improving how it looks. I think plus a custom cape and this thing will be KILLER.

Apparently the ninja star was abandoned because it wasn’t child friendly! They were shown in the film companion book at the time but toy manufacturers complained like they did with TMNT which changed to “hero” turtles in some countries and removed the nunchucks! But Batman was definitely supposed to have throwing star’s so well done on putting them in, same colour too!

Wow that's really interesting to know! That makes total sense though when you compare it to the nunchucks thing. I always found the nunchucks thing so silly because a child has way easier access to a stick(Donatello) and knives(Leonardo or Raphael). And even still, most children are inventive enough to tie two sticks together if they want to create nunchucks. 😂😂😂

Thanks! I think what's interesting with Mezco in particular is actually how different the end results end up being. If you look at their promotion pictures compared to the actual figure, they are often pretty different. I was frustrated by this with the Christopher Reeve Superman because the pictures show a much longer cape, but the actual one is much shorter. Though to be fair it's also more accurate.

Great review. Can’t wait to see your comparison of the NECA and Figuarts figures. I just did not like the look of the body and sold my Mezco Batman immediately. I have the NECA and Figuarts versions and am happy with those ones.

Thank you! Yeah I think even if the color of the body was right, I'm still a bit thrown off by the textured appearance. I'm used to the very smooth appearance of it from the movies. I know from a distance it's harder to tell, but I'd still know... And I'm in the process of editing The Flash Movie wave so I'll be able to film the showdown and Batmobile videos very soon! Haha not to nitpick further... but I also don't like the wire they used in the cape. Seems too thin. The custom cape I have for my Neca one is much better.

The Flash figure you showed on the video is from McFarlane ?

Actually it isn't! That one is from Mattel and is the only articulated figure(as far as I know) that is of The Flash from the 1990's show. The same is of that Wonder Woman. They're great figures!

using a pair of scissors, high cut off the back portion of the neck ring. With the ring cut in half. The cape will sit flush with the body. The magnet in the head will keep the cape well attached while ensuring the head also sits flush against the body with no capping. Honestly, this is a poorly engineered design and such a modification should not be necessary in the first place.

I managed to get it to fit pretty well, but I think the instructions could have been a bit better for sure. But I still don't like the cape itself that much. I still need to test how the cape I bought off eBay for my NECA Batman would look on the Mezco one.

At the retail cost yeah. I think it's a much better value at around $100 especially considering some of the issues I've seen crop up for other collectors with the bodies tearing...

Oof. Well there are still plenty of people selling on the aftermarket if you're serious! Though I've also seen a few people with MAJOR problems with their 89 Batman which now has been pretty paranoid!

Man I've seen some horror stories for sure on this guy too. A very knowledgable friend of mine said that as long as you keep this powdered with corn starch or something similar(like with what it originally comes with) then it should last a very long time. I did some research and there are other figures from other companies that use the same material and those collectors have found ways to make those bodies last a long time... So it should be possible?

Man I read SO many angry comments about this pre-order. A lot of people said they cancelled and are totally done with Mezco now. I only ever bought this one(and had a 2099 gifted to me) and the Superman one for this video, but I don't know if I'll be collecting Mezco in the long term. It's really disappointing because Mezco obviously positions themselves as a premium product company, but with a serious lack of communication for THREE years that's just terrible. Sorry man, but I do hope you get yours soon.

And yeah Mezco is such a double edged sword, they make an amazing product most of the time, but the company itself is pretty poorly managed sadly :/ either way grats on getting your hands on the 89 Batman! I’d say if you are a person who wants a shelf full of amazing looking figures keep buying them. But if you are someone who enjoys playing with figures I’d save my money and wait for the Mafex version. They usually look almost as nice but are easier to mess around with.

Thanks, dude! So far I only have the Mafex Spider-Man and it is pretty nice, but I'm actually still really happy with the Marvel Legends lines for those. Though I'll admit I've definitely been tempted by several others... Going back to Mezco though, while I don't have a special interest in Iron Fist, I REALLY like the Mezco one haha!

@@ComicallyToys Yeah some Mezco are a little hit or miss, but the Ironfist has always looked like a great figure. I don't own it personally but it looks like it nails the cloth goods / sculpt / accessories AND articulation.
