Is The New 2023 Norton Commando 961 Worth It?!

I test rode one, It's not that comfy, far too expensive, vibrates so hard as to be uncomfortable BUT I'm looking to buy one because it just feels so good. I'm not getting it as an only bike.

As stated, reminiscent of a sportster to ride, in that they’re both air cooled, five speed, cradle framed, vibey and put out about the same amount power.

It’s a beautiful bike but I wonder where it would have ranked amongst the contenders for Retro King had you included it in your recent Kawasaki Z900RS SE video ? I’m thinking not that great ? But it probably doesn’t matter if you really want one.

As much as I like the look of the new Z900s, they're new bikes in old clothes. REAL retro comes from an air-cooled push-rod motor, not just spokes...

I love the looks of the Commando but there's not the slightest excuse for its weight and lack of power, its 230kg weight is a good 40kg (88 lbs or almost 6 stone) heavier than middleweight nakeds and the same bikes such as the Hornet, MT-07 and Trident are all more powerful despite an up to 300cc deficit and less than half the price, to compare it to the more premium middleweights such as the KTM 890R, MT-09, Ducati Monster or Street Triple RS would be even more humiliating even though these bikes still undercut the Norton by more than 5 grand. realistically there's absolutely no reason why the Commando shouldn't be at least 30 kg lighter and 20 bhp more powerful even though even those figures are very conservative for a near litre twin and after all it was the equivalent of the R1 or Fireblade of its day and the Ohlins and Brembo kit are a bit like giving a porker the best Adidas or Nike runners and expecting them to make a difference in a 100 metres sprint.

Keep your envy in check old boy. None of the bikes you mention here are anywhere near the looks of the Norton. Rice rocket speed and weight is not the point of this bike. Some peeps just don't get it. Move on... nothing to see here

cradle frame, modern thicker stiffer frame design, reduced plastic usage compared to modern design nakeds, air cooling fins, probably thicker engine design for reliability without the ability to efficiently cool via liquid cooling.
