Anthony, you really really need to learn what interpolation is, and the many different types that have been used for decades. On1 Resize AI doesn't use these traditional interpolation methods, but "before" On1 Resize AI.

Use threshold under sharpen tab to selectively sharpen the image by dragging the slider to the right. I always use that slider.

It is possible to send RAW information from Lightroom to On1 Resize AI so that demosaicing can be done by Resize AI. It is the same method that can be used with NoNoise AI. Rather than Edit In you need to go via PlugIn Extras and use Send With Lightroom adjustments using DNG format. The Plugin ignores any Lightroom adjustments and encapsulates the RAW information as DNG file and sends this to Resize AI. The file size information in Resize AI should be about the same as the original RAW file. When you click Done after resizing the result overwrites the DNG file sent to Resize with demosaiced and resized image which can then be edited in Lightroom. This way around Lightroom's inability to send RAW files to plugins is probably more use when sending to NoNoise AI which works best on RAW images, and can only be used for one Plugin for any image.

I recently took some small to medium-sized landscape Jpegs and upscaled with both resize and Gigapixel. Some images required 4x and others 6x upscaling to fill my 4K monitor screen. The images from Gigapixel were MORE realistic (before & after zooming in). It was not even close. I am sticking with Giga.

Hi Anthony, I love watching these comparison videos, but Your LR Classic 'How To' videos are definitely my favourite. I'm just wondering with so many competitors now running round the block, which software would you currently recommend as best result for upsizing between the main contenders, Gigapixel, Super Resolution, and On1 Resize AI 2022? I'm starting to think that a thorough workflow these days is going to be a piecemeal operation with different software being used at different times and based around a RAW processor like LR Classic with the rest as standalone or plug-in parts of the whole operation?

Anthony, try it on a cell phone picture with a person in it. Resize it 6x or 600 %. I did it and topaz did a MUST better job. I think ON1 needs more work.

It's pretty hopeless on low-res scans of colour slides or old prints, especially if they have people in them. Topaz Gigapixel AI is still way far the best upscaler for all types of images and its face refinement tool is constantly being improved.

Hi @anthony Morganti - this is a very nice video. I have a question. have you done a comparison between this and Gigapixel AI of Topaz Labs, and or any of the other sharpening tools of Topaz. Whicn one is better in your personal opinion?

Very interesting. At what point in your workflow would you take the noise out of the image? Currently, I import into LRC, crop and apply lens correction then Topaz Noise AI and finish sharpen back in LRC.

Anthony, If you can't use the RAW file with the app via light room, would it not be better to use the standalone, use the raw than export it out separately as RAW and then open it up in light room as a Raw File and then go for it in terms of adjustments?

You can't export it as RAW from ON1 Resize AI 2022. These are the only options to save/export it as: PSD, PSB, TIFF, JPG, PNG, DNG.

@@JoeHTX Joe I realize that, but my question is WHY would you want to allow yourself to be constricted, compromised, diluted, bastardized by Light Room's and Adobe's laziness failing and cast aside RAW, unless all the talk about how RAW being the ultimate is bullshit. It is either the best we can work with or it is not, There is no middle ground.

Simply put, it won't do that, and I don't know of any other program that will start with a RAW file and then export it or save it as RAW file, especially after it's made changes to it. It just doesn't work like that...

Nothing saves/exports edited RAW files - just the nature of what a RAW file is, I guess.

You really should try the free demo of the ON1 resizeAI to see that for yourself - every user will have differing requirements. Every piece of software out there has an extreme fan boy element who will diss anything that isn't THEIR software so most opinions online from people you don't know won't necessarily be very helpful.

There is one thing that I want to know about ON1 RAW 2022 does it have selection tool like Affinity Photo. I do a lot of Product Photography and I would like to cut some of my Products if I have, to but none of the other software have it.

Thanks. What is the ultimate file size of the completed image? Topaz products create beautiful images with that take up massive amounts of disc space. I notice that On1's denoise product doesn't have this problem. How does On1 Resize AI stack up?

I did a 6x increase with both topaz and ON1 as a tiff file. Topaz was 18.4 MB and ON1 was 24.5 MB

@@stanthornton5868 Thanks. Interesting. I compared Topaz DeNoise AI + Sharpen AI vs. On1 denoise. The file size with Topaz was over 300 mb, whereas the same treatment in On1 didn't seem to increase the size at all (the RAW file was around 40 mb). So it looks like their Resize AI operates differently.

So far every time I have tried to use it the stand alone version of the software it crashes. Strange, since the regular version of the software works perfectly. Only this AI stand alone version crashes and it only crashes when it's used on one of my own images. It seems to be able to save any resized SAMPLE images just fine. Also the AI plug-in version in Photoshop works fine too. Not sure why this is, would love to know the reason though.

I watched your original on1 vs gigapixel comparison, and it was very obvious that gigapixel was the superior product. Is this still the case, or has this update given it a run for its money?

Both are great. Results of them both differ per photo. I have upscaled a lot of photos that turned out better with Gigapixel ai. Sometimes resize ai 2022 provides more artifacts. I recommend to buy them both.

I compared both on landscape images. It was not even close. Gigapixel upscales look more realistic on all my samples. I am sticking with Giga.

BTW What with the AI advances in Photoshop, I'd be really surprised if Adobe wasn't working on their own "Resize AI" for Photoshop if not also for Adobe Lightroom. We shall see ...

No, since Affinity only supports Photoshops Filter mechanism which does not allow changes to image size. On1 Resize AI uses the Automate mechanism which does allow image sizes to be changed. Same restriction applies to Topaz Gigapixel AI. Down to Affinity restriction that On1 has no control over.
