Good comparison, but even you saw you over sharpened Resize AI, so it is not exactly a true comparison. You should also do one with faces. Both do an amazing job for the regular consumer, though. I have the Photo suit and use Gigapixel all the time and get amazing results.

I tried both and right on the first image, gigapixel generated a weird color tint in some parts of the image. You need to know how to use Resize AI. I applied a smooth setting of 60 and the images look perfect. I don't want images sharpened in these apps, therefore they look perfect with this setting

I am using both apps a lot. My experience so far is that Resize ai provides more detail. But like you said Gigapixel is way better for recovering faces.

I guess it depends on what it is you process. I used both programs to upscale landscape jpegs and on all images, the Gigapixel had the clear edge. Looked more realistic.

@@librarycollection3795 The overall quality on most gigapixel upscaled images of landscapes is indeed better but the ones i upscalled with both are more detailed (sharper) with Resize ai

Thank you for the effort. Do you think this eliminates the need for a high resolution sensor? Example would be upsizing a Z6ii image and comparing it to the same Z7ii image.

The competitiveness that we are seeing with resizing sharpening and noise reduction is forcing Adobe to up their game in those areas, but so far not to the same level, in my opinion. The challenge with comparing those two products is that each has so many variables that it is difficult to do an accurate comparison. Because of that, there really is no better… Just different.

I think that On1 sharpening was a tad bit better of the two images. I have both products and utilize them both when I need to. On1 does have the advantage of being able to print directly to the printer as you stated. So, which is better? I say it is six of one and a half a dozen of the other.

I am looking into having a large mural made. The target size is about 95 X 50 inches. The photo was taken with a Sony a7rii 42 MP camera and is decently sharp. One of the sites I checked has the statement "All photos should be taken at the highest resolution possible. Once a photo is taken, you cannot artificially increase the resolution by “adding” pixels through programs such as Photoshop. This does not increase the quality of the photo." This suggests that upsizing an image with Gigapixel AI or other software will not improve the larger print. Is this so?

ON1 seems to have a wider set of options to play with - that suits me but not maybe everyone. It would be interesting to resize a portrait and see how the 2 compare with their different ways of protecting facial features. For me, an ON1 PR user, I'm just fortunate ON1 are including resizeAI in PhotoRaw 2022 as of this month. A nice "freebie" on top of what's already there.

Not sure why you added extra sharpening to Resize Ai and didn't add any to Gigapixel Ai. The extra sharpening messed up the On1 image. I agree both are similar, but adding the extra sharpening to On1 introduced a halo around bird as well as some odd artifacts in the eye. You really should go back and reprocess the Resize Ai without the extra sharpening if you really want apples to apples or birds to birds in this case. Thank you.

A single image and magnification factor doesn't do it justice. In this example, both did a good job.

BTW, just a coincidence? The same day, also Tony and Chelsea discuss the very same topic. Tony ranks Gigapixel ahead of Resize, and both ahead of Lightroom Enhance. Tony however, has a focus on faces and for faces, Gigapixel seems to be the undisputed winner.

ON1 Resize left a lot of noise in the background, but the bird looks more natural.

Everything being equal, Mega pixel seems easier to use for us non professional photographers. It matches well the other Topaz products. There is a point of demineralizing returns.

Can’t wait for the day when bird pictures arent used to test ai photo algorithms that appear to be only trained on bird photos. Would love to see some complex street photo, lots of contrast and varying colours shot at higher iso. Sigh.

Different product. I use to like Topaz Sharpen before they went to the AI model. I find that introduces too many anomalies, there none-AI did a better was way better. I find DXO and On1's no noise also does a better job at removing noise and keeping the detail more natural.

For me on1 didn't work anywhere near as good as Lightroom Super res or Gigapixel on any photo.

Resize had haloing around the bird, not good. GP won this round IMHO.
