I used to not really understand the Subaru attraction. But after trading my Tundra for an Outback, I realized I can go 90% of where I used to go off road. All while getting 30 mpg. I’m now a believer. I like the Forester, but it needs the 2.4 turbo option found in other models.

If you get cross climate 2 tires you can go 99.9 percent of places

I’ve had a 2020 Crosstrek since new and never even thought of owning a Subaru before that. I was car shopping and all of the prices were crazy, at the last minute I had this idea of hey what about Subaru? Went to go look at the lot, took it for a test drive, and left an hour later in the Subaru. For the price and features, Subaru makes a hell of compelling purchase. As another commenter stated, I can do 90% of anything off road I want, while still being comfortable for daily driving with satellite navigation, heated leather interior, heated windshield wipers and mirrors, satellite radio, etc…all while getting 30mpg with AWD. That’s a huge mileage number for a true AWD system. I’ve had it all over the deserts of the US southwest to the mountains of the north, etc and was always a joy to explore with. Nothing says spoiled like being in the middle of nowhere Nevada at 115f…all while having auto climate set at 72f, listening to my favorite jams with the satellite radio and observing natures beauty as I drive the trail.

Outback is a better buy until they put the 2.4l turbo in the forester, also the passport for me is a good buy too but it's a little more money.

Only time will tell how the turbos hold up after 250-300k km. Not many high mileage XTs compared to natural ones on the road. I know it's an old comparison, just saying. Let's see in 4-5 years

Very impressive! I’ve only seen reviews of dual X-mode before this. But it absolutely killed it for what it is and at that price range

Doing it with just you in the car is one thing, but if you had 3 people in the car or a full load of week-long camp kit, it wouldn’t have gotten up that hill. The cvt just cuts too much power to protect itself from going bust.

X-mode is available on the top screen, saving going to a second screen.

Got to love all the fan boys on here. By any objective measure it did terrible! All these fan comments acting like it just finished the Rubicon trail when in reality it didnt make it up a small hill......

What were you expecting? Were you expecting it to get all the way up even when it was digging ruts? It did great for a vehicle in its class without off road tires. And it did made it up the hill, it couldn’t go up the first time due to the front bumper almost hitting the ground.

And it still did great considering no off road tires, no skid plate, and the vehicle was digging ruts. You can trash talk it all you want, but nobody here agrees with you. And what are your standards for brake actuated traction control anyways?

Wtf are you even talking about? Firstly, fords are trash, jeeps are only good if you don’t mind paying a lot to modify them to go over grass. I don’t own a Subaru and while this isn’t a modified car let alone a rock climbing test with basic all terrain road tires, it did excellent for it being a $35k compact suv with a cvt with a solid and system. Definitely beats a Cr-V and RAV4/Highlander car. Your talking like this was climbing up a mountain alongside a shitty raptor where the transmission will explode after 10k miles. Gtfo. I suppose Ford makes a car that works? lol 😂
